One of my old friends was an assistant producer/researcher on the first series of this show. They were telling me that if Frank Skinner never appeared in season 1 then the show would never have garnered the views and popularity it has now. Getting Frank on the show was a stroke of genius. Lots of new comedians look up to Frank so when booking talent for the next few seasons was easy. All they had to do was name drop Frank and say that he'd been in the show then others would auto-think 'well, if Frank did it then it must be a highbrow show'. Hahaha. My friend was telling me that they wished they had thought of the 'Frank idea'.
That's so true, Alex Horne must have been so happy when Frank Skinner said yes, as getting a big established name really helps a fledgling show, when there were no guarantees it would be successful or get a second series. I also think Tim Key played a big part, as with his hilarious cheating and special outfit for tasks he helped establish the formula.
Frank was also a likely candidate to accept because he has a keen understanding of the prize task format. He hosted a show "Room 101" which is essentially a chat show of prize tasks 😁. He understands the studio recording banter, Room-101 is a shark tank / dragons den, show-and-tell with final judgement, format.
Frank was the "Taskmaster" of the show "Room 101"
Gotta watch something with James Acaster or Richard Ayoade. Anything with them is gold.

I really enjoyed would i lie to you, check out "whose line is it anyway?" always had the same sort of good humoured cast.

Well considering we're about to have a 12th series of Taskmaster and the US got cancelled after 1, you tell me.
The US version was unbearable
Taskmaster NZ is a great adaptation of the British one, I strongly suggest checking it out!

Plus two series of champions - the second one still to come this year. And a new years special episode as well, aired 1/1/21
@@doodlenoodle4370 just saw some episodes from other countries versions and it seems like pretty much only the American one messed it up, the NZ one definitely has the closest feel. tho having said that the finnish one wasn't amazing

that was my journey into these british shows, youtube once recomended a sean lock compilation, then i watched a lot of 8 out of 10 cats does countdown, that lead to taskmaster and now i am at would I lie to you

Your need for urgency is why American and British humour is so different. It's funnier because of the contrast between their characters. The not giving a damn is what makes so much of it funny. Just wait until you see Rhod Gilbert completely not giving a damn lol

I’m not even British, Australian here, but British humour is the best. I grew up with so much British humour from the 60s on tv here. I can’t watch Would I lie to you sometimes as the pain of laughing physically hurts lol 😂. From Frank Spencer. The 2 Ronnie’s, Faulty Towers etc, etc and more - it’s brilliant 👍

The reason why there is no sense of energy is because with this kind of British panel show, the scores don't really matter. It's about being funny, not winning.

The nice thing with Nathaniel "OneNight" Staniel is that he actually reads the comments and does stuff. It's like he's our friend. Unlike Lud "Short" Wig

I think comments like this is why people hate us.
His reactions to this just go to show why the American version didn't work. It isn't all about WINNING, it's about being funny completing the tasks and the banter afterwards. All that shrieking about how it 'should' be done really isn't the point, but he obviously didn't get this AT ALL.

I hope this won't come across as rude, but have you considered maybe giving your videos more descriptive titles? I understand that this is probably just your style, and for people already familiar with your channel it's probably not a problem, but I genuinely didn't know what this is. I've been searching for new Taskmaster reactions recently, and I'm pretty sure this video showed up in the results before, but the title and thumbnail always made me assume it was something like a discussion video or an essay. I only realized it's actually a reaction today when I randomly hovered over it and a bit of it played. Including the words "Taskmaster Reaction" might be really helpful, as well as possibly the series and episode number, especially when the playlist has the videos in the wrong order. Other than that, really enjoying the content and liking your commentary style! I'm just a bit sad I haven't found it sooner, that's all.^^'

It's funny you said Tim Keys was a psychopath. He played one when he was a guest on a comedy show written by one of his friends, Tom Basden, whom he met at Cambridge Footlights & with whom he collaborates on a lot of things. The comedy he was in was called Plebs & it's set in Ancient Rome. He's also godfather to Alex Horne's children. I recommend Plebs if you like silly adult humour.
Taskmaster almost did get off the ground because they couldn't get any contestants to do the first series. Then Frank Skinner agreed &, because he's been a respected comedian & presenter here for 3 decades, others followed & it's now taken off worldwide.

i've been binging all of taskmaster and holy shit it's my favourite! the comment section is right, you need to watch some of the stuff with noel fielding and james acaster! season 1 was very much growing pains, my favourite seasons are 4, 7, 8 and 11!
British people pride ourself on British humour/wit, the problem is 90% of US aren't witty or funny at all and we're the proudest ones.
So now you just need to watch all of task master and 8 out of 10 cats does countdown and big fat quiz and every other panel show and you will be caught up.

@@squeakyelbows No, the one i saw was pre recorded bc of covid so we watched it in a movie theatre and watched the show exactly how it was aired and they recorded our laughter and applause, the staff were hilarious though and were close with Alex and Greg so we got some fun insider information and got to shame the one guy in the audience who had never seen any taskmaster
From what i've heard Champion of champions 2 will be the first series they can have a live audience again, fingers crossed. highly recommend going if you get the chance
