@@krakendragonslayer1909 My personal favourite is Ioan Kukuzel's "Bulgarian lament" (Polyeleos to the Bulgarian woman). Though that's technically still Byzantine. So perhaps "Gospodi vozvah". Or Divna Ljubojevic's "Blagosloven jesi Gospode".
I too am an Orthodox Christian ( Greek). The beautyof orthodoxy is that the chants and services can bring us closer to God, Jesus, and in this case Mary (Theotokos), in any tongue
@@krakendragonslayer1909 I would guess that you've played the Isihia version (probably the one I've uploaded). While I absolutely love it as well and Isihia do indeed mix Orthodox chants with Bulgarian folklore, ambient etc, they're indeed not "pure Orthodox chants". If you can't find the latter, search instead in Cyrillic - "Господи возвах" or "Господи воззвах". The former should give you results from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia etc, while the latter's in Russian. Respectively, there might be a тебе/тебjе/тебя as well in the name there. P.S. The bagpipes in the beginning should be a giveaway too, well before the drums. Generally, Orthodox chants are only acapella, without an instrumental accompaniment.
Yes, this just as music alone is excellent, at the same level as the best classical choir music. But don't expect it to be as good in a random church, this performance must be the best in 100 or 1000s and I suspect it is done by the monks at Mt Athos.

@@romeisburning6739 you’re not exactly supposed to do that. It’s a paraliturgical hymn which means that it’s not meant to be chanted within the service, it would be more appropriate during the antidoron. There is already a type of hymn called koinonikon or communion hymn for the time of communion.
Thank you for sharing the Greek Orthodox chants with the guys, this has such a powerful resonance and vibration it goes right through the body. So glad they enjoyed this experience! I go to Orthodox Easter with my Greek friend and I find it very powerful and beautiful. ✨ The guys were wondering about the meaning, it is about Our Lady (who is in the icon with baby Jesus.) The Greek words on the screen are what they are singing. Btw this is about veneration, love and honour towards Mary, different from worship.
And they're not wrong. The worship of Mary, saints, and martyrs, is not biblical. Jesus himself said, "No one can come to the father, but through me. He is in me, as I am in Him." But it's easy to see what decades of new age doctrine has done to the world. Which basically says that all (religious) paths, leads to God. But the truth is the truth, and they can't all be right, so some of them, must therefore logically be wrong. But to me personally, the biggest problem I have with the different denominations of the world, are those who claim christianity, but doesn't even know, much less follow what the bible actually says. And I am guilty of that too, sometimes. But the difference is, I'm just one person, and not a church, leading thousands or even millions of people. So I think the churches have a greater responsibility, especially since there is a script to follow, if you wanna do it right. To not do that, would be the same as a muslim eating pork, and drinking alcohol, both of which are prohibited and Haram in islam. Hollow works, as the bible calls it. But the replies here clearly shows that people just likes to comment, without actually knowing what they're talking about. So lay off Bethlehem, because if the interpretation given by someone else here is a good translation of what they meant to say, then they're not wrong.
@@oraetlabora1922 Says only the people that doesn't know what the scriptures says. And I have studied religion intensively, but I'm no religious scholar in the traditional sense. And as much as I hate to admit it, Obama wasn't wrong when he said people hadn't been reading their bibles, although it seemed that entire speech was more like mocking christians/christianity and/or the bible. But regardless of his actual intention behind it, he's 100 % correct, when he says (indirectly) that a lot of christians, doesn't know what the bible says.

Assist me and deliver me, protect me from the enemy, Rejoice, Oh Bride Unwedded! And make me an inheritor, of blessed life eternal, Rejoice, Oh Bride Unwedded! Explanation of some words: *panagía* Panagia > pan - agía means above all the Saints, more holy than all the Saints *Déspina* Despina is equivalent to Lord. Translates as lady but not with a royal title meaning. *Pantànassa* Pan + ànassa > ànaks Ànaks means King, ànassa is the female form Pantànassa means above all Earthy Kings She is the Queen of everything, Queen of the Kings of Earth. The phrase Rejoice, *Oh Bride unwedded* means that Mary is a bride without a groom She never got married to any human but she was kinda married to God himself because she remained Virgin for all her life and she miraculously gave birth to the Son of God. Theotòkos is a theological term thy only the Orthodox Christians are using. In Hellenic it means: Theos (= God) + tòkos (=birth) Theotokos is the one that gave birth to God Seraphim, Cherubim, Archangels, Angels, Thrones are some of the Nine Angelic Orders according the the Orthodox Faith. When Catholics, Protestants…etc have music instruments in their churches, we Orthodox are using only our voices. Lastly, that background vocals you heard were called ισοκράτημα/isokràtima in Hellenic. One or two or three are chanting and the rest of the choir making this ‘’aaaaaaaa’’ in the background to ‘’fill the space’’ In Hellenic this is called ισοκράτημα/isokràtima and it was invented by the Byzantines. Today, this term is known to everyone that works on music. In mixing machines you see a term *ISO* ISO means isokràtima
Thank you for this absolutely wonderful explanation and your additional notes describing the nuances of the meanings. I’m very interested in biblical Greek & learning from root sources. Even the act of learning the words in a different language opens more understanding. Your username and comment, they way the letters look remind me of the Glagolitic Alphabet, which was created for and used by the Slavs (as a gift by the Byzantines), later the students of st Cyril and Methodius created the modern, Cyrillic alphabet in Bulgaria, which my name is written with and is used from the Balkans all the way to Mongolia.
It does, however, this is Amharic script.

I agree completely.
As an American of Irish and Greek ancestry I was raised to value both cultures but I don't have to buy into the stereotypes that others project upon us.
As a child back in the 1960s, some of the older Greeks just like my mother because she was Katholicos and xenos.
At the same time some of the Irish relatives didn't like us because we were dark haired almost, dare I say it in today's world, non-whites and also foreign.
My parents were married 60 last years and had eight children. If you believe something regarding religion then you live it if you don't believe it then don't talk about it.
You don't need a pope or a patriarch to tell you who you are.

That is the Holy Spirit convicting you. Jesus is calling you. It’s written in the Bible many examples of people crying when the Holy Spirit touches them. There is no other reason for you to feel this way over a song
This is one of my favourite Orthodox hymns. Here's the English lyrics:
O Virgin pure, immaculate, O Lady Theotokos,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O fleece bedewed with every grace, O Virgin Queen and Mother,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
More radiant than the rays of sun, and higher than the heavens,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O joy of virgin es, superior to angels,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O brighter than the firmament, and purer than the sun's light,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
More holy than the multitude of all the heavenly armies,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O Ever-Virgin Mary, of all the world the Lady,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O Bride all-pure, immaculate, O Lady Panagia,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O Mary Bride and Queen of all, the cause of our rejoicing,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!
O noble maiden, gracious Queen, supremely holy Mother,
O rejoice, Bride unwedded!

O rejoice, Bride unwedded!

The older gentleman completely understands the power of Byzantine religious music.
As an Orthodox Christian, I am happy to see them react to come of our chants. I prefer ones in Old Slavonic, but this was a beautiful chant.
Can you please provide some links to Slavonic Orthodox chants? I have no cyrylic keyboard to look for them by myself
@@NikeBG I played Gospodi Vozvah and I'm not sure if it is Orthodox, since I hear some drums there
@@krakendragonslayer1909 I would guess that you've played the Isihia version (probably the one I've uploaded).
Love from a Romanian Orthodox 💖 thank you so much! Byzantine chant is the epitome of both prayer and music itself :)
Yes, this just as music alone is excellent, at the same level as the best classical choir music. But don't expect it to be as good in a random church, this performance must be the best in 100 or 1000s and I suspect it is done by the monks at Mt Athos.
Salut!

THis is part of my heritage, and I am sitting here in equal awe. The Psaltis (person singing) is really good. It is a peaceful hymn praising God and the eternal joy. It is written in Byzantine Greek. Reminds me of going to church as a child, but never heard a hymn this beautifully sung.
Actually the whole hymn is about Panagia (Holly Mary), its common in Greece during her celebrations
At my parish we sing this song often when the Priest brings out the Holy Eucharist. It's such a beautiful song I find it beautiful when even a humble little choir like ours sings it.
Yes! Me too! This is Agni Parthene 💟☦️ Translation:

More glorious than the seraphim
Rejoice oh unwedded bride

Rejoice oh unwedded bride
Rejoice all of the cherubim
Rejoice hymn of the angels
Rejoice all of the seraphim
And joy of the archangels
Rejoice oh peace
Rejoice oh joy
Handmaiden of salvation
Oh bride oh chamber of the word
Unfading fragrant blossom
Rejoice delight of paradise
Rejoice life everlasting
Rejoice oh holy tree of life
And fount of immortality

Oh queen of all, I beg thee
To grant me thy favour
Most spotless and most honoured maid

Oh thou my help deliver me
From harm and all adversity
And by thy prayers show me to be
An heir of immortality

@Bethlehem Eisenhour?
@@oraetlabora1922 Bethlehem is using scripture to imply that the chant is the appearance of holiness but really dead faith or uncleanliness.
@@juliebriggs643 That makes no sense.
And they're not wrong. The worship of Mary, saints, and martyrs, is not biblical. Jesus himself said, "No one can come to the father, but through me. He is in me, as I am in Him."
But it's easy to see what decades of new age doctrine has done to the world.
But I have devoted a lot of time to the subject, as I am a seeker at heart.

Explanation of some words:
*panagía*
Panagia > pan - agía means above all the Saints, more holy than all the Saints
*Déspina*
Despina is equivalent to Lord. Translates as lady but not with a royal title meaning.
*Pantànassa*
Pan + ànassa > ànaks
Ànaks means King, ànassa is the female form
Pantànassa means above all Earthy Kings
She is the Queen of everything, Queen of the Kings of Earth.
The phrase Rejoice, *Oh Bride unwedded* means that Mary is a bride without a groom
She never got married to any human but she was kinda married to God himself because she remained Virgin for all her life and she miraculously gave birth to the Son of God.
Theotòkos is a theological term thy only the Orthodox Christians are using.
In Hellenic it means:
Theos (= God) + tòkos (=birth)
Theotokos is the one that gave birth to God
Seraphim, Cherubim, Archangels, Angels, Thrones are some of the Nine Angelic Orders according the the Orthodox Faith.
When Catholics, Protestants…etc have music instruments in their churches, we Orthodox are using only our voices.
Lastly, that background vocals you heard were called ισοκράτημα/isokràtima in Hellenic.
One or two or three are chanting and the rest of the choir making this ‘’aaaaaaaa’’ in the background to ‘’fill the space’’
In Hellenic this is called ισοκράτημα/isokràtima and it was invented by the Byzantines.
Today, this term is known to everyone that works on music.
In mixing machines you see a term *ISO*
ISO means isokràtima
Thank you for this absolutely wonderful explanation and your additional notes describing the nuances of the meanings. I’m very interested in biblical Greek & learning from root sources. Even the act of learning the words in a different language opens more understanding. The mysteries and beauty of the Byzantine Orthodox & Catholic traditions share an innate cosmological resonance in common with some other faiths which I love to contemplate and discuss respectfully.
I loved your note about the ISO term in music - never heard that before! I’m also very interested in the healing power of certain vibrations in music, reading much lately of the healing frequencies in sacred music.
Gorgeous Traslation- it means a lot to me. Thank You God for reminding me of my Mother and your Precious Mother . 💕💞💞💞
Thank you very much for your time and all the information, immensely appreciated! God bless you!
That was so moving. I know the song, I'm Greek Catholic. I looked at these guys and said these are our brothers. We are all brothers.
It’s amazing how universal music is and how it touches the soul, without knowing the words. Beautiful.❤️
Μεγάλη η Χάρης Της! Να μας προστατεύει και να μας ευλογεί!
I am honoured to have shared this heavenly music with these good gentlemen, their faith is wonderful, and l love to here Babus understanding of things, 🙏🌹😌
As a Greek Cypriot I’m very fortunate and proud to be a Greek Orthodox. St Pasios once said the fiercest enemy of the devil is no other then humility. Amen
I actually spent a lot of time working through this song when I was first learning Greek. It was a huge help in getting used to reading capital letters.
It really helps me in that way too as I’m only a beginner reading the Greek.
No this Is no greek this Is Roman Empire song
@BLUREDSTONE III I shall not argue with you over the empire definition, Greek or Roman. It doesn't matter. The thing is that the chant is in Greek language transcripted on the screen and every single word phrase or sentence is perfectly understandable by modern Greek speakers
"Rejoice unmarried Bride"
@@bluredstoneiii5594 Actually, this chant is Greek. It was written by Saint Nektarios of Aigina in the late 19th c. (I checked because I couldn't remember the date and it was first published in 1905, while he was living in Aigina). the Roman Empire was long gone by then....
@@bluredstoneiii5594 NO ,THIS is an hymnwritten by Saint Nectarios of Ægina is not even 100 years old
IF you refer to Roman you have to be more specific ,Meaning the East Roman Empire ,or Byzantium
I have that painting, my grandmother was Greek Orthodox, I also love this beautiful chanting, so peaceful to my soul.
The song written by our Sant Nectarios of Egina. God bless you all. Big greetings from Serbia. ☦️
Thank you all, I needed this today - "the world has stopped, peace all around".
I'm crying... Because personally I really needed this..
Thank you, dear, kind-hearted fellows!!.. Thank you, Lord!..

These four guys are phantastic, so open in hearing something totally new fir them. They appreciated and embraced it from the first moment. ❤
Orthodox music is so soothing and beautiful, comes straight from the heart and goes straight to listeners’ hearts. ❤️☦️

It's nice to see people trying different things with appreciation and curiosity rather than fear or hate of differences. 👌

For those that may not be aware this is a relatively new hymn of 19th century composed by Saint Nektarios of Aigina himself.
Greetings from Greece!!! Love your videos, you're doing an amazing job. I'm also very happy to hear that you liked the chant. Keep up the good work ,be safe and happy.
As a Greek and Orthodox - seeing this was so special. Thank you
"The world has stopped, peace is all around" 😭 accurate description of entering Heaven in the presence of the Theotokos.
This chant was composed by St. Nectarius of Aegina at the end of the 19th century. Definitely one of the most beautiful Orthodox chants I have ever heard, apart from the Hymn of the Cherubim. I also love the rendition of this chant (Agni Parthene - Oh Pure Virgin) by Divna Ljubojevic. Angelic voice from Serbia!
yall are so sweet and respectful 🤍
