      Thanks so much for your very generous feedback, George, really glad you enjoy my drivel! Although, in fairness, I do talk about gear from time to time but only in so far as it fits in with my style of photography. Plus, I do get asked about it a lot! But I do always prefer to concentrate on creativity wherever possible 😊👍

    Lovely spot and some fine images. Been there several times, but never photographed a sunrise (getting a bit too old for early starts now), but tempted after that. Used go up there for an swim during that real hot spell in 2022, most times I had the place to myself.

Perhaps a decent pair of photography gloves are in order 😁 and, don’t you dare get even close to slagging of Gary after this video! Only kidding, it was actually rather engaging, gave us all a real taste of what you were experiencing, and the conditions looked sublime. Thank you for sharing your love of the Welsh countryside.

    Where to begin…loved this video! It was somewhat like being there with you for the hike and photos…and a bit of suffering only added to it. Completely related to sometimes simply wanting ‘to be there” feeling and photos optional. Of those you showed I really loved the one with the 9mm and the wall and lake …the wall gave a sense of history to the image as well. So glad you shared this! Btw your vlogging and sound was great. Made the experience so real. I don’t know what you use for it, but it works very well! Ps..your gear page says OA3👍

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Gordon, thank you ever so much for your hugely generous feedback. It is much appreciated. I do have the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 also listed on my gear page which is what I have used for most recent sound and vision work. But I carry the OA3 as a 'B' camera if I ever want to set up second angles or I need to use it in the wet because the OP3 isn't weather sealed of course. Plus, now and then I do a time-lapse so I need a second camera for that sort of thing. 😊👍

    Great to be watching your footage again. Here’s a question for you. If you was going to choose just one prime lens for your OM1 what would it be?

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад +1

      As it happens, that’s actually quite easy for me to answer. I would opt for the Leica 15mm f/1.7. It’s the one I always go for if I’m only taking one lens. Slightly wider than a standard, so works well for landscapes, which of course is most of what I shoot. But also doubles as a very capable street and even portrait lens 😊👍🏻

    • @davidbeck1696
      @davidbeck1696 8 месяцев назад

      I had a funny feeling you’d say that. You’ve mentioned that lens a few times in your posts. What’s your reason you don’t use the Olympus lenses? Cost?

    • @davidbeck1696
      @davidbeck1696 8 месяцев назад

      @@DGriffGallery❤

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@davidbeck1696 Ah no, don't misunderstand me, I do use Olympus lenses. But I was simply answering a rather specific question in this instance. And 15 mm is a focal length which I would find most useful if that was all I had, one which isn't available in the Olympus line. As for cost, there really isn't much in it, between Olympus and Pana / Leica. However, there is a quality to the optics of Leica lenses which I really like. 😊👍

      @davidbeck1696 8 месяцев назад

      Wonderful. Thank you for your always in depth answers. I’m in the market for a new prime lens and just wanted your opinion. And you’ve answered perfectly. I’ll look forward to your adventures buddy. Thank you for your content. 😊

    I love the last 2 shots on your Vlog David. You get superb light in that valley don't you? A couple of years ago we got lost coming off Nantlle Ridge and got back to the car about 2 hours later than intended just as the sun was starting to set - it was some of the most spectacular lighting I've ever seen anywhere ever in Rhydd Ddu and along the ridge and on Mynydd Mawr. Well worth getting lost for! All the best, Phil.

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Phil, yes it's one of those places where the valley sides aren't too steep so that you get early morning and late evening light down to the valley floor and coming in through Dyffryn Nantlle. some of the other northern Eryri valleys are quite steep sided and deep so they don't enjoy quite so much good light. 😊👍

    Terrific film of a stunning location.
    As another commentator said, it's great to find a photographer who focuses on the art more than the technical.
    I know we snappers are always fascinated by equipment and most of us are guilty of pixel peeping (I'll definitely hold my hand up to that), but this video and many of your others are testament to the quote from the great nature photographer, Peter Adams, who stated,
    'Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gizmos. Photography is about photographers. A camera didn’t make a great picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel.'

    • @DGriffGallery

      Hi Roger, I've actually been using these for the last two or three years. With a 77mm set and one or two step up rings they fit all of my m4/3 lenses nicely, and are so light and easy to carry I can't imagine using any other sort of system. And I have no problems with the three stop GND. I've never really felt the need to slide it up and down, and of course it rotates. So, for now I doubt that I'll be considering an upgrade to the Mk2. 😊👍

    Thank you David, terrific images. BTW what is the brand of the bracket and base that you used on your OM-5? I liked how the base clipped into the strap around your body.

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Peter. It's a Peak Design capture clip. Initially designed to be clamped to a backpack strap. But I use it with a camera strap and and fixing plate on the camera base as a quick release solution.

      @@DGriffGallery it worked really well. I am always worried about putting my OM-5 on a tripod as the OM-5 fascia around the thread is not robust, but your set-up looks to be a good solution; and efficient. Thank you.

    The couple of times I’ve parked there the gate has been locked. How do you get in?

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад +1

      The angling club which owns the fishing rights started locking the gate during the pandemic. Not sure why, because it's the easiest thing in the world to climb over! And, of course, it's in the open air, so health and safety concerns were somewhat ludicrous at the time. The land around the lake, however, is national park, and they actually don't have any legal right to prevent access, they just own the fishing rights to the lake itself. Although, these days it remains unlocked and there was no sign of any any chain and padlock on this visit 😊👍

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  8 месяцев назад

      @@avantgarde8402 Hi Daniel, that's a really tough question to answer. It depends on the context, I'm afraid. So I can't give you a single reply. However, ideally my choice would be The Glyderau / Tryfan, but that would only be if I could have the place to myself. These days I only visit this area quite rarely when it's reasonable to expect it to be quieter than usual. So if I were forced to make a choice with circumstances being the way they are in real life, then that would be to base myself at Rhyd Ddu. This location is much quieter, and provides a wide range of opportunities for photography within walking distance at all times of year. 😊👍
