    This is one of the best reactions I've ever seen. There are a lot of nonsense PROFESSIONAL reacts to pentatonix and you can tell it's just click bait. Yours isn't - it's one of the best technical and professional examinations of pentatonix I've ever seen. and I've seen a LOT. Thanks for your time and effort and you can multiply that by 10 for the english subtitles - very few non-english speakers take the time to do that. Kudos to you and I hope your channel does as well as it deserves!

Your analysis is the first one I've seen which has gone into this level of detail from the standpoint of breaking down the arrangement on the fly. You are hearing and commenting on things that I've not seen other reactors catch, so kudos to you.

      Instant and detailed analysis "on the go". Even though there are lots of pauses, I like this better than the "cheerleader" reactions which don't really educate or inform. Good job. s The first time I ever heard them perform, I just sat there with my mouth hanging open and teary-eyed.

    Thank you for your subtitles and and your thoughtful breakdown of their arrangement. They are very intentional with every word, note, beat & silence. They have been together for a decade now and trust each other implicitly with timing. We Pentaholics call their build up, the Wall of Sound and yes they often have full silence breaks as they know well how to use them. When they sing on same notes for a line or two, we can expect them to break back into harmonies which is SO powerful. Bravo!
    Amazing Grace is stunning!

    I have listened to a fairly large number of reactions to this and other Pentatonix videos. Yours is the most complete, most incisive and in many ways the most knowledgeable I have come across. In addition, you do a better job of explaining and relating what you are experiencing, feeling and knowing than anyone I have heard/seen. There others who are knowledgeable and ,of course, some are specialized in certain areas but you excel in all areas. You pick up on nuances in the performance that many do not and you bring them to life for people who do not possess you knowledge, experience or artistic depth and understanding. You have a wonderful gift and you are a wonderful gift for all of us. Thank you !

    Roberto, I just recently discovered your channel.
    How refreshing it is to see a real professional dissect the song/performance phrase by phrase, and render your personal critique of the construction, implementation, and delivery, of these genius renditions of songs that were popular so long ago.
    Pentatonix is today's ABBA with a much more sophisticated modern twist to their compositions. I, like others, have stated... get so disgusted with most other analyses of these ( know-nothings) that never hear what you absorb, because they are not cultivated enough to appreciate what they are hearing.
    Thank you for your precise examination of every layer of color and texture this group puts into their performances. It is beyond belief.
    Thank you for unearthing, and expounding. on the hidden treasures of phrasing and tone and timing, that might go unappreciated had you not brought them to light. You are a joy to watch and learn from. Thank you for your channel, and all the work you put into it.

    I was thrilled to see you had a new reaction today and to one of my favorite groups! Then, I asked myself why did I enjoy your reactions? And, this is it... because even though music is dots (notes) arranged on lines (staff) written on 2 dimensional paper, so in that sense, it is linear. But when instruments (human and crafted) have those notes applied in specific sequences, it undergoes metamorphosis into a multi dimensional conceptual experience that no ear alone can contain. You get that and the fun for me is listening to you try to explain it.😉

    • @LezioniDiCantoOnline
      @LezioniDiCantoOnline  3 года назад +15

      Katy, I couldn’t have found a better, more poetic and elegant way to describe this wonderful alchemy we call music.

    • @timfredrickson6141
      @timfredrickson6141 3 года назад +4

      Katy, you nailed this!! The music that Pentatonix creates is so much more than vocal range. It certainly is that too, but their arrangements, variations, and intensity levels really create that multidimensional effect.
      Roberto, I was new to your channel. I'm very familiar with Pentatonix and have enjoyed much of their work for these half-dozen years or so. It's refreshing and informative to hear reaction and breakdown that exists much more than, "Oooh!! That high note!" "Wait! This is just their voice?!"
      Those are amusing for the surprise reaction, and it's fun to watch people discover something, but it was very satisfying to hear you get into chord progressions, rhythm, vowel structure, etc.
      There was a time where I sang quite alot with accomplished musicians better than I am. These were the kind of directions I'd receive to bring my baritone along to match their skill.
      I very much look forward to more of your work!

    Smartest analysis ever. Pentatonix are real perfectionists and everything they do, they choices they make, are deliberate and well thought out. You picked up soooo much in your analysis. I'm impressed. It took me 50 listenings to pick out those points on my own! (By the way, the female singer, Kirstin, is half-Italian, so there's that... And the high-pitched male singer, Mitch Grassi -- there's got to be some Italian with that last name!)
    They end a lot of their songs sotto voce these days. I think you'd love their interpretation of Can You Feel The Love from The Lion King. It is quite the performance, with costumes included. ruclips.net/video/cT1Kzk7akjQ/видео.html. (Extra bonus -- it has THREE key changes!)

    I was totally captivated by this comprehensive review! You present your emotional reaction to their music, as well as a detailed technical analysis, but you are the first reactor I have heard that marries those two, to help us understand the genius of Pentatonix... exactly how they take us on the emotional journey that draws us in, lifts us up, shakes us to the core, and finally, leaves us somehow changed. Bravo! I would love to hear your analysis of their cover of "Hallelujah," which features their original bass singer, Avi Kaplan, a classically trained basso profundo. You may also enjoy their interpretation of Tchaikovsky's "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy"... a piece with no lyrics, performed by PTX with no instruments!

    Like so many others here, I really really appreciated the amount of detail you were able to extrapolate in your analysis of their stylistic choices! For example, that little voice break that Mitch puts in at 8:45, which almost makes it sound like he's crying -- which you commented on! I loved that. And the way Matt opens up his notes on "saw" and "songs", taking up so much more space, but then dialing it back just as quickly... all the little details, you caught them all! I was SO impressed!!

You are appropriately impressed by the insane range/power of a Dimash or So Hyang, but your passion is for how all those tools are used in the artistic expression of the song. I am five minutes into this reaction and am incredibly delighted. I can't wait to watch the rest, but had to comment immediately because I wanted to suggest a song (even though you're right, it's long past Christmas!) that pertains directly to your comment about the quality of sound and atmosphere the 'ooo' sound makes for the background. In my favorite song that PTX has done, Little Drummer Boy, there's a place where they change from an ooo sound to an ahhh and it's almost like vocal fireworks going on behind the soloist at the time. It's fantastic, and I have yet to see someone comment on it. They also use a filter on the beatboxing at one point to slowly change the 'brightness' of it to support the song, which is very interesting. I'd love to hear (read! My dad, long dead now, spoke Italian, but I wasn't old enough to learn when he passed, sadly) your take on it. Now to watch the rest. Superb, truly fantastic analysis.

I didn't read all the comments, but I saw a couple people mention that PTX has been together since 2011, but the three in the center (left to right) are Kirstin Maldanado, Scott Hoying, and Mitch Grassi. Scott and Mitch have sung together since middle school and with Kirstin since high school. They are completely in tune with each other. We all have our favorites, but there are very few of their songs that I don't enjoy. I hope you continue listening and reacting to them, and I'm SO glad your opinion changed by listening to this song. ;-)

It’s already been wonderfully and succinctly said earlier, but just to reiterate; this has been the most detailed and informative reaction, Ever! When I listen to this song of almost any Pentatonix song I enjoy in what I have come to understand as a very superficial level. But it’s no less enjoyable. But when I listen to it with you explanation of what’s going on it takes on an entirely new dimension and I can appreciate them so much more. This is the second song of theirs that I have heard you react to and have come away with an even greater love for their music. Something about Pentatonix that is very special to me is their juxtoposition of various octaves and voice qualities and methods to create this interesting, complex and rich vocal arrangement. Everyone and their particular voices can shine - everyone adds something special and unique - and the entrance and exit of the singers through the melody and then them dropping back to add to the harmonic foundation of the songs... they do it so well. It seems on the face of it that their voices would be too different to mesh well, but they are all the same amount of different from each other, which creates this very interesting, rich mesh.... I could listen to them all day. The timing is impeccable. Just.... so good.

  • @nadinehaney6590

    Pentatonix came together in Texas, USA, when Kirsty, Mitch and Scott were in high school choir together. After high school they added Avi Kaplan as their bass and Keven as beatboxer and sometime tenor (he also plays cello - bellisimo!) and they entered an American TV competition that was strictly for A Capella groups or choirs of any size. They ended up winning that competition and the prize was one hundred thousand dollars and a recording contract. That was 10 years ago and, although Avi literally broke my heart when he left the group a few years ago,they have managed to create an entirely new genre - A Capella pop - and inspire other young singers to follow in their footsteps. There is another amazing A Capella group that won the competition the following year and they have been touring non-stop ever since. They are called Home Free, and I would love to see you react to their music; How Great Thou Art is probably my personal favorite followed by Ring of Fire, but really all of their songs are wonderful and their beatboxer is incredible!
