  • Mid July Trip | This is a 4 Day backpacking trip in Montana's Bitterroot Mountains. I started at Little Rock Creek Lake where I gained the lake then went off trail to the nameless "Pristine Lakes" basin, from there I used a gully to get onto the ridge near El Capitan. After summiting El Capitan I descended to Kerlee Lake then went downhill even further and out of the Tin Cup drainage. From there I stashed my gear and went off trail back to the Little Rock Trailhead to grab my truck.

You continue to floor me with the Central Rockies’ hikes. Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem n nearby, like these Bitterroots = my favorite. I know many hikers are rightfully drawn to Sierras for more practicality n often excellent trails, vertical relief, but the # of hikers n permit scoring = such a challenge at times. The Rockies has plenty of granite rich peaks on par with Sierras, and of course beyond. I’ve probably remarked before in your previous videos: Rockies = huge, maybe the second largest mountain range by area on planet. It’s frankly unfair to compare Sierras to them: Rockies just has so much wow factor, geological diversity, the wildlife n true wilderness adventures and paths less traveled: too much for me to ever explore in my lifetime 🤷🏻‍♂️.
But I will say 1 huge drawback of Central Rockies lately: fires are getting too routine n it’s heartbreaking. This part of Rockies is also right in the path of Northern Rockies’ blitz of annual fires lately. Jasper fire has basically cancelled our family’s plan to visit, which we planned for late August. Perhaps we go way South to Kananaskis Country.
Back to this hike, bet it would be as good as it gets in Fall with cooler weather n fire season in the rear view. I’ve seen your recent Fall hikes in Bitterroot’s as well. Those are stunning adventures.
Thank you so much and keep going. You’re definitely one of the best at this world on RUclips.

2024 so far has been a "filler" year for me in regards to trips and health issues as well. Hopefully August and September are better!

Do you ever take a fishing rod etc and fish in the high lakes? Looks like it could be fun.
