The way he says: "This is the really real world" is crazy because he's trying to come to grips that he's about to be killed by a person he killed a whole year ago.

This is my favorite moment in this film. David Patrick Kelly is one of my favorite character actors and he sells the everloving FUCK out of this scene. What makes this scene so great also makes it sad. Brandon was already lost by this point, but the way they worked around it made the scene so cold and eerie. We barely see his face, aside from edited in previous shots, and he doesn't say a word. T-Bird is basically begging for his life, but Eric doesn't care. He doesn't have to talk or respond. T-Bird is going to die.
@@superjackster0165I did some research and as far as I can tell/read it sounds like this was after. Makes sense, because there is no dialogue from him during it. Camera also stayed at shoulder level or behind him. The shot of his face was edited in from footage that was not used.
@@BryanVGK23 I made that comment before doing some research. I was wrong. It turns out that this was one of the scenes that was shot after Brandon died
Its been years since I've seen this scene, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this in the comments. Eric wanted T-Bird to watch every second of his own demise. Eric purposely ducktaped his eyebrows/eyelids so T-Bird had no way of closing his eyes or flinching before the explosion occurred. Eric had died a similar way by T-birds (and Fun Boy) hands, keeping his eyes open the entire time after being shot and thrown off the building, while the same song was playing. Revenge at its finest. Heh.
T-Bird for most of his life was always indifferent towards the idea of there ever being a God in some form or another. But once he realised who Eric was, that the mysterious man was God's right hand and Angel of Death, he knew that judgement for all his sins was waiting for him in the next world. It was then he knew real fear, that all his power of being Top Dollar's chief enforcer ruling the streets of Detroit through intimidation and suffering counted for nothing. He immediately regretted every choice he had made, but it was too late, he had no chance of ever atoning. While Eric had the personal satisfaction of carrying this out, he'd served his purpose as the ferryman of dark souls. T-Birds soul was purified in the flames of his car exploding and burning the skin from his bones. Skank the last member of the gang witnessed this, he watched Eric walk away disappearing into the night, and in his drug addled mind had at least one lucid thought: His Judgement Day was coming next.
I heard that they filmed this scene AFTER Lee's Death. The image of his face was edited in from a previous scene, which is why you only see it twice and it looks kinda 'funny.' Almost like it doesn't go with the scene. Makes sense when you consider how we only view Eric from the back in his frontal shots and his hands and arms the rest of the time. And if that's true, then David Patrick Kelly's performance is utterly brilliant and may be the most under-rated acting in the history of cinema.

What I love about each of the gang's deaths, is that they die by something they love... Tin Tin die by his knives, Funboy die by his drugs, T-Bird die by fire along with his car (the first line we hear from him is about how much of a pyromaniac he is) and Skank die alone, when he loved to be a follower. Everything in this film is so poetic!
I just noticed The 2004 Punisher was inspired to this in the end in a different way when he shot Howard Saint (John Travolta) he tied him to the back of a car and having the car drive off, dragging the Howard behind. As the remote controlled vehicle drives through the parking lot, cars explode and Howard Saint burns alive & it shows the Punisher Skull Fire.

The acting is great. T-bird's absolute panic realising who Eric is and what it means for himself. That if people can come back from the dead like this, to enact revenge, then there is a very real chance that his death is just the beginning of his torment, that there is an afterlife and his isn't going to be pretty.
