I like how he did this whit all the safety possible but didnt unplug the lamp
Or turn the lamp off.
Didn't even turn of it's inline switch. And he handed Rowan a hot bulb into his bare hand.
Tbh I expected an electrical shock to happen at the end as the punchline
Or handed the hot bulb to his bare hands
Rookie mistake!
lol the look on Alan's face after Rowan screams "health and safety" is perfect. "sigh, let's see what idiocy this brings about today"
It's all fun and games until someone causes a blackout, then it's fun in the dark.
@@pacmunchiez2828 This is one of the funniest channel entertaining with Fun i know,
but it's still a bit inferior to Hbomerguy and Some More News, if i may be so brutally honest.
fr 💀
I'm surprised they let Alan stay in the room. You can't have employees wandering around in dark places, that's an accident waiting to happen.
Having him stand there was safer than leaving him to wander in the dark. Trip hazards are serious issues in the workforce.
He was instructed to shelter in place until the danger had cleared
Well, we saw what happened. :)
Walking away in the dark is an accident waiting to happen!
@@VivaLaDirtLeague Life is dangerous in any case will lead to death ...
I love how Alan seems like the normal one but he ends up being wrong half the time.
Ellie is normal too, but she just knows how to go with the madness as Alan still resists it.
@@theq86 Ellie knows that when Rowan tried to go undercover as "Rowa", she just didn't even bother arguing with him about it as she knew it wasn't going to work
Plus, out of the red shirts, she's probably the most well paid considering Rowan is always giving pay cuts to Adam and Alan
@@corriehingston6744 Well Ellie is up to like 300 an hour too.
@@joshl1664 😂 Because Rowan keeps forgetting her hourly pay within seconds of her telling him
Its a workplace after all. Alternate (sur)reality. Common sense does not work any more
It is has been a while since Byron has appeared. Glad to see him appear in skits
A couple more coming soon too! Look forward to those 😍
What do you mean? He's been here the whole time!
he was in cowboy bebop
Its Brian, get it right 😅
@@pupplekao He lives in the store's warehouse.
Byron comes in, forgets the no. 1 safety precaution: to turn off the apparatus before doing any repair. :))
It was a very cheap Health & Safety course.
They went through all the basics in 30 minutes
He also did not utilize Lock Out Tag Out procedures.... OSHA regulation 1910.147
Also pulling the plug.... just in case.
@@GameBoy-xx2zz Probably just isolate power to the entire building, you never know.
@@legallyfree2955 Actually, contact the mayor. Ask for a local blackout with a 1-hour minimum duration on your location
Byron is one of the best actors in the crew. Always gets a laugh out of me.
Defo! This guy is underrated.
Bryan is definitely one of the best, for sure, but I'm really exciting for a lot of them to get more time to shine. Phoenix, cause she stole my heart in Baelin's Route. The guy who played the blue dude with black stripes plays a funny sort of irritated straight man, or at least did in that one video and was great. I'm too high to figure out what his name was, and not knowledgeable enough in DnD lore to know what race he was playing.
Byron is one of the few members of VLDL that is an actual TV and film actor, so that probably explains why. I've seen him on a few shows and he's always great.
@@thefinkie6459 He is in Netflix's Cowboy Bebop adaptation, actually :d
@@Kivagyok1000 are you serious?
Man, I love whenever Byron is in a skit.
Who ?
@@romainsavioz5466 I think he meant Brian.
@@PaulBlaise isn't his name Robert?
@@PaulBlaise but there isn't anyone working there with that name
Who?
I love that Byron is almost always either close to tears or close to rage. Or sometimes alternating between the two
This has to be one of your funniest videos (so far). I nearly pissed myself when Alan blacked-out Auckland.
The safety training at my last job included how to handle chemical products, lift heavy objects, and how to work around heavy machinery, amongst other things. It was a call center job.
I’m working from home for a call center, and I still had to watch a “How Not To Run Down Your Co-workers With The Forklift” video.
Just applied to drive for Lyft and had to sit through literally 30 minutes of videos explaining how not to talk to passengers. Not exactly the same thing, but equally ridiculous.
@@JustToast936 I hope it was "Staplerfahrer Klaus".
@@bur1t0 sadly, it was not.
@@JustToast936 ruclips.net/video/j-pJ3R7XnBU/видео.html Epic German training video. It's so old nobody quite knows anymore if it was originally meant serious. You might get the automatic subtitles working or watch it at increased speed, it is quite hilarious.
As the former safety officer, I applaud this dedication to a safe work environment.
They didn't even unplug the lamp before chaning bulbs tho. Or even just switch it off..
@@Kuzmorgo Well, the switch and the plug were parts that still WORKED. Never touch/change something that works... :-D
Applaud? Please stop that unnecessary arm-waving before you cause an accident.
and did you just type that without having the proper permits? Oh my dude....
As usual, Alan's reckless behavior led to a serious incident. It's no wonder Rowan is so angry all the time.
Great video as always!
I think that deserves a paycut, surprised rowan didn't say it 🤔
@@satansbarman It'll be brought up later during his performance evaluation. 😉
This video clearly vindicates Rowan in every past video.
the safety officer should have shut off power
😂
I am loving skits with Byron. He's becoming my favourite member.
I just love every episode with Byron, he is such good actor!
Bulb Companies: "It's about time someone treated this seriously."
"Too many accidents at homes and workplaces has happened, somebody has to do something!" Rowan gets an idea to have Byron take night courses in HS (health and safety), to avoid sanctions and the workers union to breath down his neck.
@@MattHew-rq8zw The bulb blew because it couldn't handle Rowan having an idea. It went crazy and self destructed.
Also bulb companies: makes a CFL or LED lamp that costs twice as much and lasts half as long as the incandescent bulb it was supposed to replace.
@@BrendonGreenNZL Fun fact, manufacturers of incandescent bulbs in it's heyday could actually produce bulbs that can last many times longer than what they usually do. The manufacturers intentionally made them not to last for very long in order to sell more of them. I wouldn't be surprised if it''s the same case with CFL or LED lamps.
@@haroldcruz8550 in my case, I think it was just a function of buying cheap, low-quality lamps from the supermarket. However, the light bulb cartel is an extremely interesting piece of history that likely is still somewhat relevant today; especially when given that computer simulations can allow a product to be precisely engineered to fail after X hours of service, allowing designed obsolescence under the guise of reducing material costs. Look at the automotive industry for an excellent example of this in action.
I love how Byron has the ability to smell inert gases. He probably has super smell.
Nah, like so many H&S people, he's just faking it to keep his job.
I’m surprised he’s huffing that thing since those are not good gasses to be breathing in!
He’s just that darn good!
Practice, man. Practice
@@Pseudowolf Really now? So "not good" that you do breathe all of these gases right from the air ...
Since when did Byron become a safety officer instead of a delivery officer?? 🤔🤔
Must be the cross training.
he deliveres safety
He is trying his best to get noticed
Must be an alternate universe to the original playtech one..
I mean, Rowan being someone's assistant? Come on!
Not sure if you want a serious answer but in places where I've worked, health and safety has often been an additional role on top of someone's regular job.
Great skit, but Byron forgot the lock-out/tag-out procedure to really sell it. If he had one of those little padlocks that prevents someone from plugging in the lamp, that would have been perfect.
Well he never unplugged it to start.
Speaking as someone who once had one of those at a job that I never got to use, ever, it would have cracked me up if he did have one in the skit
💯! You must be military!
Yeah, but then they couldn't have blown the cities light's out
Byron seems like the kind of guy who would just normally carry around a lock-out/tag-out lock "just in case".
It is nice of Byron to react so fast. Usually, the bulb will not get replaced for 3-4 weeks (although the area will stay cordoned off), because it takes time to find and procure an incandescent replacement bulb. This is due to the middle management having failed on several occasions over the years to reach a consensus on what color temperature LED bulbs to get, (as it has to be uniform throughout the office, for some reason). And CFLs have been banned due to mercury since the 1990s.
Just switch to using candles. Problem solved.
An open flame?! Health an safety would call fire evacuation as soon as they see a candle, even an unlit one.
And HR would call a "disgruntled employee with malicious intent" alarm as soon as the candle and an ignition source come within a foot of one another@@alexhajnal107
I love how they made an "excessive" show of safety but nobody thought to unplug or even turn off the lamp
Like real life health and safety - massive fanfare and fuss over stuff that doesn't matter, and accidents keep happening because the stuff that does matter doesn't get enough attention.
@@alkaholic4848 cuz they are too expensive to counter them. That fanfare stuff over small things is just smokescreen to show we doing good stuff for your safety xD
@@alkaholic4848 As someone who used to be in charge of safety and compliance at UPS, I will have to tell you that you’re wrong and misinformed.
First off, such a thing as you guys are joking about shouldn’t actually happen. The “common sense” solutions are almost always at the top of any OSHA-compliant priority list.
If you feel that any local safety officer is doing / not doing something that causes risk, 100% they are cutting corners and are not in compliance.
@@yoyoibo Pfft. OSHA is child's play. MSHA is where the real H&S begins. 😉
@@yoyoibo lol... cope
we all know "Health and Safety" has nothing to do with health or safety.
it has to do with "lawsuit prevention" and only lawsuit prevention.
Rowan's not wearing gloves or safety goggles, give him a warning
that smells a paycut son
And he isn’t wearing a safety vest!
He surely shouldn't even be behind the caution tape!! 😰
No helmet!
No gloves, no goggles, no helmet, no condom, no safety vest, no condom and no boots it is not safe!
This is a good one. Good setup, progression and punchline. Nice job, whoever wrote this.

I love every episode with Byron, they're always gold!
Byron is absolutely amazing! I just saw his performance on the Netflix Cowboy Bebop and it was a hilarious performance. Congrats on your excellent skills Byron, you've earned it.
You guys are the modern day Monty Python. Just so unafraid to just be silly. Keep up the great work!
I love viva la dirt league. These guys deserve and should be even bigger than they are already , absolute brilliance every video
I love every skit Byron is in and his photography is AMAZING!!
Oh, photography. I heard something entirely different that I couldn’t check while on company computer. Still interesting, though…
I love that after all that they didn't even unplug or switch off the lamp
This was an awesome sequence. The bulb 💡 hand-off was stellar.
You know shit is going down when Alan says "damn it"
This was such a good episode. Amazing work VLDL! Also, glad to see Byron getting more screen time :)
Poor Alan, the laws of nature literally changed just to humiliate him.
Nature has ungodly amounts of spite... when appropriate but extremely inconvenient.
@@Paxmax Nature has a special arrangement with Murphy's Law and likes to laugh mockingly at the unparanoid.
I love the fact that the Health and Safety guy taped the area off and kicked an employee out, but didn't turn the lamp off or unplug it. XD
Rowan is amazing. He can be either extremely careless or obsessively cautious. But not both at the same time.
Oops he didn't unplug it first. Major safety violation!
As a person that gets super annoyed by all the ridiculous safety legislation that surrounds my workplace I really appreciate this skit.
He did with his legs under the desk

Always enjoy a good Byron skit 🤣 thanks guys!
the best one so far was the gold farmer imo…

I love the skits where there is a meaning to Rowan's insanity. Bring evil alan back too.
Guys, this one was absolutely epic :D I laughed so much from the depths of my heart, thank you for making my day! VLDL!!!!
Gosh, this brings back memories of working in big businesses with power-tripping unions. Literally got screamed at for cleaning up a little broken glass in the middle of what was about to become a busy hallway instead of cordoning off the area and calling the janitor to come clean it.
That sounds about right 😪
I would have replaced the glass with the dipshits teeth who screamed at you. Call your union rep and get them fired, they aren't allowed to do that. Bullying and harassment, intimidation, verbal abuse, 1-2-3 strikes they're fuckin fired with no severance
unions are scum
That didn't happen.
Hahaha I flinched at the end
I like that they got safety tape, glasses gloves etc, but no one though about turning off/unpluging the lamp.
Being a professional in the field of work security I have to say this was realistic, but only when you consider the pandemic situation. In non-pandemic times after sniffing the blown bulb we usually check for oxidation of the free accessible metal parts by licking them.
You had us in the first quarter.
Violation to the safety of the bulb. You didn't sterilize the tongue and now it's all infected
Love it! seeing a Viva update always makes my morning, the cones had me rolling lmao
i Love it that Alan tried to look for a new Bulb under his paper in the beginning😂
I love the the fact they can turn the simplest stuff into an awesome skit. Great work guys
Byron is a man of many talents, and so modest, true hero this town deserved. And Rowan is a natural sidekick
The sad part (or funny depending on how you look at it) is I've been to a couple of places where the safety regulations are this overblown.
Bombardier Transportation.
Right? It’s either one extreme or the other, never any kind of common-sense middle ground.
Now we know how many Play Tech employees are required to change a lightbulb.

Rowan Cares about the health and safety of his workers.
He's a good boss
i fckng LOVE those videos with Byron :D his kind of mimic and acting in every single video :D
Spent 7 years in the canadian oilfield. I can confirm that they actually didn’t go far enough. They did not lock out and tag out the breaker leading to the outlet, did not unplug the lamp from the wall, did not write a permit and hazard assessment to change the bulb (though there may have been an SOP) and finally, did not engage a journeyman electrician to change the bulb.
I wish I was joking but I have, in complete seriousness, seen this happen.
Where is the method statement, the risk assessement, required PPE list etc.
@@Omertahun that's all part of the hazard assessment ;)
@@HandsomeDanVacationRentals the method statement isnt. They do come together though. All sent to main office HSE department to review, get rejected, revised, extended, rejected again, revised again. The desk task lamp and the bulb must be standard issue from risk assessment and method statement, if not, they need to be revised prior to the works commence, after the used materials have been authorized. Alan needs to be allocated to a different desk by the logistic manager for the duration. The task must be represented in the Inspection and Test Plan. Reviewed, rejected, revised, reviewed, rejected, revised again.
Byron is such a fantastic actor. As for the characters he plays...

I like how they made all the ruckus, yet they forgot the 1 important part regarding electrics: switch them off before you start tinkering.

I'm happy the delivery man worked his way up to the health and guy.
Totally did not see that ending coming. AWESOME!

As someone who works in an automotive factory...
I can confirm that such an extreme amount of safety is genuinely needed in the workplace. With anything electronic. Or high pressure. Or something razor sharp. Or something higher than 4 feet off the ground. Or something flammable.
Byron should have unplugged the lamp, kicked Alan out of the room, and shooed Rowan away for not wearing proper PPE!
Im going to show this video to my works OSHA safety instructor that comes in once a month to show us videos for different safety stuff. She will love this.
I do not have the words to express how much I love Byron!! I don't care if he's a delivery driver or health and safety manager.. just more Byron!!
I like how Alan looks under the folder on the desk for a spare bulb and got disappointed there wasn’t one there.

I ve lived in the UK and I confirm what is shown is true there too. Once the - very round and made of plastic attached to the shower tube by screw - showerhead in my room was broken and they would not give me a replacement one because of health and safety.
