My favorite reactions are the ones where Mary is pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoys a movie or a genre she thinks she doesn't like.
This, 100%. Horror can make great commentary and I love when it's done well.
@@gacchan
@@gacchan i wouldn't call this "horror". but only because when I think "horror movie", i think of like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday The 13th, or even The Ring.
@@pleutron That's fairly understandable, horror/suspense/thriller can be so broad a topic.
Agreed... 100% It's like a reset to keep her from becoming jaded.
That final scene with Cole and his mother in the car always makes me cry.
over 20 years and still gets me too lol
That scene is a masterpiece!... btw grandma sais hi
Amazing acting!
Me, too
Me too. Niagara falls.
I was totally oblivious to this when I saw it in the theater. But to be honest, the writer played fair. All the clues were there. But like Cole said of the ghosts: they only see what they want to see. I wasn't thinking in terms of Malcolm having NOT survived from the first scene. Great reaction! I love how you get into the movies you react to.
I liked when he cracked the front window of the book store. It helps to fool the audience into thinking that he physically exists, but cracking a window is something an angry ghost would do as well.
He played fair in this film.
But then he did another gotcha reveal in another film, and another.
After that I just stopped caring about anything he put out.
Of course then Last Airbender came out and sealed his fate 😂🤣😆
@@NemeanLion- True but you wouldn't expect a ghost to be able to do that during the day.
Typically in films ghosts are at their strongest during the night - albeit the reasoning for that behavior is weak and often saturated in Christian superstitions.
@@mnomadvfx Maybe I’d understand your theory if the ghost under the bed didn’t push the videocassette out to Cole in the middle of the day. Ghost movies may be “Christian superstition”, but most interpretations are primarily left up to the teller of the story.
I went in knowing that there was some sort of twist, but I still didn't pick up on it. I think I got caught up in the story. The scene with Cole and his mom in the car is incredibly moving to me.
Cole: "I see dead people. [...] They're everywhere".
Mary: "Are they in this room right now?".
😂 This is a masterpiece, glad you started your scary movies with this one. FYI, I don't know anybody who saw the twist coming. And the movie is worth a 2nd watch, just to confirm that every scene actually makes perfect sense (they do).
Yeah I lol’d at that too
Yeah, even down to the fact that he's always wearing a jacket so you don't see the blood on his shirt.
I saw the twist from the start. This movie is terrible.
@@BDogg2023 tell that to the critic ratings, audience rating, oscar nominee and box office revenue. go live your life boi...
@@MaxArch I see where you got your namesake. Isn’t there a glass of spilt milk somewhere with your name on it.
P.S. MacDonald’s has “Billions and Billions Served”…that doesn’t make it a good burger. The masses’ taste is shit, and they’re easily entertained.
Great reaction as always. Haley Joel Osment who played Cole was nominated for an Oscar for this role . You may also remember him from Forest Gump . He played Forest’s son.
I think Haley was robbed of that oscar.
@@PV1230 Toni Collette (the mother) got robbed of the oscar by Angelina Jolie for Girl Interrupted.
He was SO damn good in this role
He was also in The Boys.
I saw this in theaters when it came out. People were absolutely shocked when the reveal happened, no one expected it. This was back before people really expected twists in movies, too, or at least, not with the frequency they kind of do now, Pretty much no one saw it coming, it was great. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
Yeah, it's gotten so bad with people expecting surprise endings that some people can't enjoy other kinds of movies. I had a friend watch Ex Machina, and he said he was really disappointed with it. Shocked, I asked why, and he basically said, "Well, they set up a series of possible outcomes at the beginning of the movie, and then the conclusion was one of those options." "So you're disappointed... that the movie made sense???" 🤔☹
One of the most remarkable things about this movie, is that people watching it for the first time are always amazed by the twist. The movie is 22 years old and was a big hit at the time, but it is one of a very few movies that people who have watched it, feel compelled to keep the ending secret. Even when I have heard people discussing it, they will check that the person they are talking to has seen it before they will mention the twist. It's either because they remember how much they enjoyed the reveal or they have a respect for the movie - or a combination of the two.
Everyone knows who Luke Skywalker's dad is, every one knows who died in Harry Potter, even if they don't watch the movies, but the 6th sense seems to be a movie that everybody - on their own - decides that they must preserve the secret, must preserve that element of surprise, for those who have not seen it yet.
I saw an interview where Bruce Willis said he was so happy that America kept the secret! For the reasons you laid out above. So awesome.
One of the greatest bombshell endings of all time. And the twist was so brilliantly executed. All the signs were there--all the clues. We were all so caught up in Cole's drama, the tension and troubles, and the resolution of those--kept us distracted from Malcolm's relationship with his wife. We were following Malcolm's effort to help Cole, so we accepted his perception of the deteriorating relationship with his wife. In retrospect, it seems so obvious, but almost no one saw it coming.
I kept thinking the "I see dead people" kid was gonna grow up to be the shooter even though time skipped forward. It could be what the shooter was going through.
@@jayeisenhardt1337 I think Cole was following the same trajectory. Malcolm was even diagnosing him the same way, going by the book, figuring he was having hallucinations, maybe he was schizophrenic, should be medicated or hospitalized. That's just how he treated Vincent Grey, and if Cole had been referred to a (living) psychologist, he probably would have ended up the same way. It was realizing that Vincent really was seeing ghosts that enabled him to help Cole and save him from Vincent's fate.
Saw it opening night in theaters, the entire crowd reacted in loud audible inhales each time the music kicked up before glimpsing a ghost lol, and in a much longer and louder version during the reveal. When the end credits faded onto the screen, the theater was just sniffles for about 5 seconds, and then applause. It was an experience. Saw it 6 more times in theaters after that just to piece it all together, and there really are no holes. Such a beautiful, well written, well acted movie. And Haley Joel Osment still has one of the greatest performances- not just child performance! - of all time, in my opinion. And Toni Collete (the scene in the car, every time!) was phenomenal!
Saw this when it came out. What was most amazing was, people would ask “Have you seen The Sixth Sense? …See it!” But no one spoiled it. It was so deserving of that respect. I feel like if it came out today people wouldn’t be able to wait to tell you the twist. Fortunately it’s old enough of a movie now that you were able to watch it without anyone giving it away. Love your reactions- this one was no exception. Now I’d say, if you haven’t seen it you should watch Ghost
It came out in that sweet spot after people started caring about "spoilers" but before the internet made not being spoiled almost impossible.
I got it about halfway through and told my wifey, but she was like your bad at guessing 🤣but if I was 100 percent sure I wouldn't have spoiled it for her, but she didn't believe me anyway. When he first said "I see Dead people" I got it.
I had the same experience. People at work were continually telling me that I had to see this movie and that I wouldn't believe the ending. No one spoiled it for me and although I spent the entire movie trying to guess what the big ending was, it still completely blindsided me. It was great!
"...Beth dies!"
😜
My experience was different. I think it was Thanksgiving. I mentioned I was going to see The Sixth Sense and my Sister in Law blurted out “I couldn’t believe Bruce Willis was …”. Maybe I’m a small man, but I’ve never forgiven her. Love her though.
Oh man, it’s so wonderful when someone can see this without knowing there is a twist. Such a great movie experience, loved the reaction!
Back in the day, I don't recall anyone seeing the ending coming. It was before social media and spoilers, and no one went in thinking there was a massive twist in the tail. No one had heard of M Night either. We now know he nearly always has a twist. It was beautifully crafted, acted, and the subtle direction was perfection, and no one expected Bruce to be so good at restrained acting. Brilliant movie, and your reactions were so much fun to watch.
It seems like the most shocking twist ending Shyamalan could put in a movie now would be not to have a twist ending.
Toni Collette is such an exceptional actress. I liked her in Little Miss Sunshine as well.
This movie is so painful and beautiful, and now seeing people react to it, those emotions are even stronger now in light of Bruce Willis' diagnosis of dysphasia. His performance was so gentle and raw, and It's such a perfect piece of work. Everyone involved was cast perfectly and delivered outstanding performances.
I’m so glad you didn’t know about this film Mary. I thought you were saving it like you did some of your other big films. Your reaction was so great. Don’t worry, we were all shocked at the ending. 😊
If you liked this, you may want to watch “Signs” with Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix. It’s another scary movie by the same director.
Except the plot of that movie makes no sense. That's the problem with M Night Shamalyan, his first two movies are good (this one even great) and then they become more and more ridiculous plotwise.
@@YouHaventSeenMeRight You’re entitled to your opinion, but Signs received the 2nd most critical praise.
I agree with Nemean and most viewers. I absolutely loved Signs; watch it over again every couple of years.I have a feeling Mary would love it too. Great actors and performances too.
The Sixth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable are the Trinity of Good Shyamalan Films imo (there's some others I have a mild affinity for like The Village and Lady in the Water, but they don't come close to those first three). Unbreakable might even be my favorite of his. It gets better with age because of how saturated the entertainment industry is with superheroes.
@@TimDownsAnimation I can agree, though I place The Village higher on my list of loved lol. I just love the basic idea of it, never watched Lady in the Water though.
I have watched dozens of reactions to this movie. You edited it PERFECTLY. You kept all the relevant scenes in & no unnecessary ones. The kid who said, "Come on, I'll show you where my dad keeps his gun" didn't have his head smashed in, he had part of it blown off because he was messing with a gun. This movie is a masterpiece. Great reaction!
I love this movie. I saw it in theaters and the reveal completely shocked me. I love his mom and she’s who I try to be while raising my son. Every time I watch this movie or a reaction to it I cry like a little baby too. It’s just a lovely film.
I'm so glad you didn't have the movie spoiled for you. This movie has seeped into popular culture so it is hard for people not to know what the twist is. Glad you enjoyed it!
I've seen this movie dozens of times and I STILL bawl when Cole and his mother are in the car......that whole scene just kills me.
Love when people catch the plot twist. The reactions are priceless.
Great vid, Mary!
The actress playing the Mom is terrific. She played a completely different role in "About a Boy" a great, heartwarming movie with Hugh Grant. I highly recommend it.
And Hereditary :) she should have won an Oscar for that one!
@@HistoritorJimaldus yea she was good in that too. Eeee that movie gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it
She was in Muriel's Wedding in 1994.
This is one of the most iconic twists in cinematic history. It was done right and it didn't cheat. Great story, absolutely SUPERB acting from the three leads. 👏
Nominated for 6 Oscars including Best Picture but lost to American Beauty.
It made $670 million dollars against a $35 million dollar budget.
I remember watching this movie in theaters with my parents and we twist ending was insane!
This really is such a good film. Always one of my favorites. I remember how shocked I was at the twist. I still cry at the scene when they’re in the car at the end. Emotional. And then boom the shock that came after. Really good acting all around too.
I had read that Bruce Willis made 100 million on this movie, instead of taking a salary, took a per cent of the movie
American Beauty is a great movie though
@@TheRtmac dang that’s crazy. I like hearing that actually. When actors bet on themselves and the project.
Mind blown was my reaction originally when I first saw this movie. I've seen it many times, but I always shed tears when Cole is talking with his Mother about her Mother and what she said when she asked her the question. A very touching scene.
You're the best reactor when it comes to heavy emotion. You almost always react as the writer and director intended, which is exactly why I clicked this youtube video the moment I saw it. Excellent!
When I saw the film many years ago, I noticed all the "Red" symbols. The serviette, the doorknob leading to the basement/cellar, the read balloon at the birthday party, the church door, and Cole's red sweater. Cole knew that Malcolm was a ghost from the beginning of the film. They were the only two communicating.
The mother who poisoned her daughter was wearing red at the wake.
Plus your right about Cole knowing. Watch his reaction when Malcolm says "you missed our appointment".
I think it made him curious enough to talk to him.
@@dneill8493 Actually, Malcolm says, "I missed our appointment."
@@oliverbrownlow5615 I sit corrected. 😀
'Cole knew that Malcolm was a ghost from the beginning of the film.'
Objection, your Honor! Facts not in evidence! 😃
I watched your reaction in such anticipation of the plot twist reveal and how you would respond!!! This movie will go down as one of the greatest plot twist endings of all time! Great reaction Mary!! Good luck this month
The joy of reactions is seeing somebody being taken along the same twists and turns of a given storyline. It allows us to somehow re-capture those same emotionslos joy, fear, fun, terror… that ate the mark of great story.
This is one of those few films that obfuscate the plot with a second plot so that the fact that you’ve been tricked all along is all the more wonderfully mesmerizing.
So happy that you really enjoyed this beauty of a movie.
Blessed October to you all
Great reaction, loved how scared you were going in. It added to the effect of the few jump scares. As a whole the movie isn't scary as much as it is tense and intriguing. All the tension builds and then is released when Cole finally connects with his mom and then the twist hits and you lose it. I've always seen twists like this coming in most movies over the years, this caught me completely off guard.
I hosted the Scottish premiere, and we all knew there was a twist, but it knocked us sideways. I took my Mum a few weeks later, and about an hour in she guessed the ending. When I asked her how she knew, she said "Bruce Willis hasn't changed clothes the whole film. Either he's dead ot he's filthy".
I was spoiled going in, so I knew the twist. A few people predicted the ending, but the vast majority never saw it coming. This movie benefits from a second watch.
I am really bad at seeing things coming before they happen, and then being disappointed that I figured it out before hand. This one got past me without me seeing it, and it is still one of my favorite movies of all time because of that reason.
It's really amazing how many of us didn't see it coming considering how that montage at the end shows us just how much the movie was hitting us over the head with it. haha. Even in that scene after the girl's funeral when Cole says, "I'm not going to see you anymore, am I?" We just think, yeah, they don't need to be doctor and patient anymore now. Most of us still didn't think, "Wait a minute...could he be dead already?"
One of my favorite films. I saw it in the theater in 1999. Huge hype and no internet or social media to spoil it. We were all blown away by the twist back then! And anyone who says they figured it out is lying 😅
A true rollercoaster of a movie and I’m glad its been all these years and you didn’t know about the ending. You mirrored the reactions I had when I first watched this movie. It’s an incredible movie that took me by complete surprise. I’d suggest watching it again now you know. You’ll notice the subtle ways the characters interact that show he (Bruce Wills) is not really there. Great movie and brilliant reaction.
The last 10-15 mins of this movie are near perfect. Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment and Toni Collette are superb.
In the commentary for this movie, the director said that every time a spirit interacts with the physical world, that item is red. Cole's sweater, the basement doorknob, Cole's fort, the box the dead girl gives him, everything was red.
Not just items they interact with. The red wrapping paper on the new boyfriends gift and the red dress before Vincent at the beginning
Everyone was surprised by this one, Mary. Ok, maybe a few weren’t. I think the superb performances of Bruce Willis and especially Haley Joel Osment were so good that we didn’t suspect the twist.
I didn't watch this movie until maybe 10 or 15 years after it came out. I was told the twist end because every show or movie mentioned the ending as it was just one of those references to add to a movie to compare it with. When I did see it, finally, I was still amazed by the story. This, to me, is a great example of a near perfect movie.
You’ve watched Alien, The Thing, The Shining, The Exorcist, and Halloween. You’re going to be fine. Most horror films aren’t going to be able to match the intensity of those.
So true :)
The original alien movie pffff
Dude at the beginning is Donnie Whalberg, Mark Whalberg’s brother… He also played Sgt. Lipton in Band of Brothers….
The Indian doctor at 13:45 is THE SIXTH SENSE screen writer and movie director M. Night Shyamalan. 😄
Saw this movie in LA when it first opened. Definitely a film crowd. The were audible gasps from the whole theatre when we realized the twist. You could just feel the shock. This film was masterfully done with amazing performances by everyone.
best acting role by a child...ever!
As much as it's amazing to see Bruce Willis' depth and range of roles.. and to recognize Haley Joel Osment for his amazing performance here and in other movies.. Can we just have a moment to recognize Donnie Walberg, who not only was in this, but also in Band of Brothers as Lipton AND in New Kids on the Block all in the same lifetime?
For me, the biggest surprise came when I found out who played the naked crazy guy at the beginning. I wouldn't have expected such an INCREDIBLE performance out of Donny Wahlburg.. of New Kids on the Block fame. I thought he deserved waaaaay more recognition for his tiny role then the little boy for his big role. and no religion or church keeps the dead people away...lol. religion is steeped in death and dead and dying.. why would it keep his fear away? Malcolm did help him in the end.. to understand his gift and how to use it.
many movies, you may see once and think "ok. i'm good"... and might never purposefully watch it again. i think many see this movie and want to rewatch once (at least) to view it in a totally different way.
The people sugesting movies are not monsters, I knew you would like this one, that twist is memorable.
It’s definitely m night shyamalan’s best movie. It makes you jump, scares you, makes you cry, and makes you happy all in one movie. And the ending just blows your mind. So great and great acting. Haley Joel Osment won a Saturn for this movie and was nominated for an Oscar and golden globe for playing Cole.
There are two types of people in this world:
*1.* People who claim that they, in fact, saw the twist coming either "the whole time," or at least long before the reveal.
*2.* People who tell the _truth!_
that car scene makes me watery-eyed EVERY DAMN TIME lol
Behind you! "The Others" is another movie like this one with a big twist at the end. It’s also about ghosts.
I love Cole's mom. She is so special.
Welcome to the club! I was completely caught off guard, too. Knowing how you reacted to Stranger Thinks with Will and Joyce and the other relationships, I knew this one would touch you in a good way, not a scary way. So it was so cool seeing you nervous at first, knowing you would love it in the end.
I love some of the subtle things that happen in a scene. For example, you see Malcolm and his wife at the restaurant and she glanced up in his direction and you think she's reacting to what he's talking about, when actually she hears a happy couple behind him laughing and she briefly looks up toward them instead.
I saw it in a packed theater a week before it opened in one of those free pass sneak preview screenings you used to get tickets to if you watched the local free paper. No one knew anything about it. The trailer was vague. Reactions in that screening were very much like yours. When the ring dropped and rolled, we started to hear people whisper "Oh my God" all over the theater. There was applause when the credits rolled. And afterward, everyone stood around the theater talking to each other about what we'd just seen. It was amazing. I saw it many more times. You're right, it's a beautiful film. I just love watching people discover it. Great reaction.
32:54 - "Done it, yes, next, never again."
You need to immediately watch it again, it's a completely different movie the second time.
I like to think I'm observant enough to figure things out beforehand, and there are so many clues in the movie to someone paying attention, but I had no idea. Still kicking myself.
I think this is the best supernatural movie ever. It transcends the genre by deemphasizing the usual tropes and gore to deliver a deeper meaning.
Red is always present whenever a ghost is present. One of my favorite movies.
I've seen so many react to this movie, but your reaction is by far the best. You even made me shed a tear along with you 🥲 Thank you again for making these videos. I'll keep coming back 🙏🏽😊
When this was released I was friends with a Dallas police officer who was about to take his detective test. He was absolutely furious he didn't pick up on all the clues. We all loved the film though.
midway thru the movie when you made a comment that the wife hasn't spoken a word after the shooting, i was afraid that you were going to guess the twist ending. fortunately, you did not and you were able to fully enjoy the magic of discovering this wonderful movie for the first time. my wish is that i could erase the memory of this movie and rewatch it for the first time.
That particular scene where Cole tells him his secret is extra emotional because that wasn’t the first time he had experienced that confession. He just didn’t treat it as seriously as he should have the first time he heard it. And that same boy grew up and ended up doing what we all know he did…
When my wife passed Ive often wondered if it was me that died. Thats this world is just what Ive built around me. The world can be surreal at times.
I saw this in the theater when it first released. Everyone was shocked by the twist ending, everyone loved it. And there was a tacit agreement that no one spoiled it for anyone else. Usually word got around -- like when Empire Strikes Back came out, people were spreading around that Darth Vader was Luke's father before the first day was over -- but no one spoiled Sixth Sense. It was too awesome, and we all wanted everyone else to have the same experience. It's wonderful that there are still people who haven't seen or heard about the movie, and it's my single favorite movie to watch reactions of. :)
We never hear 'her' speak. Is the first moment of notice. (but thankfully NOT enough!)
Cole says... "I see... dead people."
Mary: "Ewww!"
The Mom-Son scene in the car gets everybody... but Mary's "Mommy!... I've been so wrong about this movie." was so very touching - it was especially sweet.
Then the ring rolls on the floor - "HE'S DEAD! OH MY GOD!" about as good as the twist gets really... (and she had a really, really good weep)
A Perfect Sixth Sense "a beautiful movie" Reaction!
In the last scene with Cole and his mom when he delivers the line "every day", I read once that the director kept the actors lines from each other until shooting, so when Toni Collette reacted to Haley Osment's line the reaction was all the more genuine. At least I choose to believe that's the case. Lol
The twist is the big talking point but it's the final scene with Cole and his Mum that really makes this incredible.
One part that gets missed a lot is at the funeral, when someone in the background says "and now the little sister is getting sick." Also, it means he rode the bus alone, to a wake in a stranger's house.
When we saw this in the theater, I got is when she said "Why did you leave me." My wife got it when the ring hit the floor. You could hear the gasps of understanding all through the theater over the next few seconds. We went back the next weekend to see if we could catch any mistakes and to listen to the new crowd get it.
One last thing. Both the guy in the beginning and Cole had a blonde patch of hair. When I was about 6, I got hit in the base of the skull, just behind my ear, by a baseball from a game played in a park. I had a white-blond spot that lasted until well after this movie came out. My wife saw Cole's spot, touched the back of my head and went, "ooohhhh" like she had just caught me doing something. On the way out after the movie, I head a few people comment on my hair but I didn't catch all of what they said.
Wow this was one of the best reactions to this movie I’ve seen… so glad you really FELT this film, it’s such a good one!!!
What a joy to watch this with you! You were as surprised and moved by the ending as I hoped you would be. thanks Mary!
I watched this annually for my birthday along with The Mask as a kid. I wasn't big on jump scares as a kid but this movie was one of my faves. The hints of red whenever there is a ghost is soothing as well.
I still like M. Night Shyamalan and enjoy most of his films but I wish I could go back and experience this film for the first time again. I remember it coming out of nowhere, my mom said "I watched that movie. I was scared, and I laughed, and I was in tears". I was like "in tears??? It's a horror thriller". She said "wait til you see it". She was right.
everybody was caught off guard...great reaction!
I was lucky enough to watch this on opening night at The Metreon in San Francisco. 1999 doesn't feel that long ago...
Having seen this multiple times, the scene that always makes me cry is the one in the car where Cole starts by saying, "I'm ready to communicate with you now." Even in this reaction, I was surprised to feel tears running down my cheeks.
ANYHOOO... wonderful reaction, as always. No, wait.. much more than that. THE best reaction to this movie I have ever seen.
Such a great movie to react to, and you are among the best reactors! The way you comment and convey your emotions are perfect and I feel I'm experiencing the movie again.
When this movie came out our kids were small, and a night out at the movies very rare. I knew of the movie's popularity amd also talk of a "twist". At some point I rented the movie and watched it at home. I kept wondering what the "twist" was, so at the end I too was shocked!
Thanks for the great reactions.
Great reaction! As always! I remember seeing this one in the cinema back in the days - and at the moment of THE plot twist, the complete, huge room full of people were at shock. The movie ended and it was completely silent. Never experienced something like that again.
This movie wrecks me every time… not the least of which by Toni Collette‘s performance as a mother who desperately loves her child and shows it despite his (at times) abruptly disturbing uniqueness.
It is painfully beautiful.
BTW, Toni Collette is a world treasure and must be protected at all costs.
Saw the balloon floating up the stairwell, and thought: this is the wrong movie...
Same here Mary here. Never expected the twist. And after rewatching I also recall how beautiful the story bet Cole and his Mother was I have considered this one of the "perfect" movie.
The moment when Mary laments that she is home alone watching a spooky movie, was so good.
This movie had one of the best endings ever. Just imagine what this movie did for Bruce Willis's career and the young child actor also became a sensation. I believe he was nominated for an Oscar for his performance.
"the fact that she's constantly watching this video is *so telling"* is brilliant in light of what comes next
Great reaction video! Love the way this story creeps up upon and then all over you. Very well done. That last scene makes everyone teary-eyed, because we all, as children, harbor the same question.
I saw this is a theater. It was Summer, and the Air Conditioning was so strong we were freezing there. When Cole said it gets cold when there are ghosts around, there were giggles.
Also, when the movie was just released, a movie critic in a major newspaper started his critique with: "A dead psychologist finds a troubled boy..." There were letters to the editor asking the newspaper fired the critic. They didn't, and never again the critic gave up the movie's ending.
I saw this in theatre with my friend. Very early in she whispered “I wonder if he’s dead”. I’m still mad at her 😂
1999 was a GREAT year for movies. The 6th Sense, The Green Mile, The Matrix, The Blair Witch Project, Fight Club, American Beauty, The Mummy, Office Space, Girl Interrupted, Dogma, Galaxy Quest, The Iron Giant, Audition (Japanese Horror), Boys Don't Cry, The Ninth Gate, Bicentennial Man, Man on the Moon, Stir of Echoes, and hundreds more.
I saw most of these in the theater when they released. Yeah, the two biggest twists were this one and The Matrix.
Cole's mom is played by Toni Colette. She is an incredible actor...she was also in the film Hereditary, which is another excellent horror film.
Haley Joel Osment starred in the film that Stanley Kubrick was developing before he died. Spielberg ended up directing it, instead. It was called A.I.
Bruce Willis is now retired from making movies.
I remember when this came out. It was later discovered that all the clues you need, are shown, by the color red. When you see red it is important.
i remember going to watch this at the cinema and I was running abit late, the young at the ticket booth said "the trailers has started and if you were another 5 minutes later i wouldn't of let you in." this movie has stuck with me for quite sometime. :)
So fun little thing. The actor that played Vincent the guy that shot him is none other than Donnie Wahlberg. Played Carwood Lipton in Band of Brothers, one of the lead actors in the TV show Bluebloods, and a member of the boy band New Kids on the Block
I was completely blindsided by the ending. It all made sense once you knew the twist. Watching it again you marvel at how all the clues were out in the open but never gave anything away.
Love your reactions, and glad you liked this movie. My ex saw it before me, and told me I HAD to see it (this was when it had just come out on video, and I knew everyone was talking about the "shocking" ending). Right after Willis was shot, my ex was on the phone with her friend, and I said "Bruce Willis is dead, isn't he?" Her immediate reaction was to say "I hate you." :)
your ex ruined by telling you there was a twist "shocking" ending
you should have punched her in the face
Is that why she's your ex?
@@squ34ky I wish that were the reason. :)
@@micksailor4715 Saying there is a shocking ending alone is a spoiler IMO
@@willvr4 Agreed, but we didn't use internet (her idea), and so I was never exposed to spoilers. That said, knowing there was a "shocking ending", and seeing the trailers ("I see dead people"), kind of gave it away. :)
I’ve seen this movie so many times over but I always burst out in tears at 28:35.
I didn't see the movie when it came out, somehow managed to avoid spoilers for a couple of years till it was on telly. Me and housemates were sat watching it and about half an hour before the end another housemate comes in from work, pops her head in the door and asks "Has he found out he's dead yet?"
One of the best "I didn't see that coming" movies ever.
This movie (and consequently this /writerdirector) have become SO notorious, I'm shocked - and delighted - that you saw it fresh.... without ANY idea what was coming.
While I really enjoy his later films, the fact that he's become known as "The twist ending guy" kind of distracts from all his later works since it's so easy to lose the narrative and instead obsess about what "the twist" will be.
Not that his later films aren't worth watching, but try to see them without getting hung up on guessing "the twist" and losing the narrative.
It was a joy to watch you watch this WITHOUT knowing what was coming. It's so rare these days to see someone who hasn't been exposed to spoilers - especially for a film this old and this ....iconic.
I saw this opening night and absolutely did not see the twist coming. Quite a memorable experience too because until the twist I was already pleased with what a good movie it was. The moment of the big reveal turned a great movie experience into an awesome one, and still one of my most memorable movie memories. I think people today probably guess it more often than they did then because plot twists are more of a thing in movies than they were then. But going into it blind as you did and not knowing there is a twist decreases the chances of catching it. I think it’s great you got to experience it that way it was intended instead of being distracted trying to figure out the twist. Great reaction, Mary!👍
You can try a horror/comedy this month with "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" which is a slasher spoof.
Also, once you are out of October, you can watch "50 First Dates" which is a comedy that has a hilarious gag that you will now understand.
I always let myself get carried by the narrative. Sure, you can watch a movie and question everything to "prove" you are smarter than it, but you miss out on a lot that way. The story had depth and subtlety that were presented beautifully. Even on rewatches I let myself forget the big end twist.
Poor M Night has spent the last two decades trying to recapture this success.
Others might point this out as well, but did you notice that the actor that played Vincent, the guy who shot Malcolm at the beginning, was played by Donnie Wahlberg, who also played Carwood Lipton in Band of Brothers.
