This all sounds great! For the campaign, one feature that I would like to see the return of is how in StarCraft 2, you could do missions where depending on the choices you made that would open up certain unit upgrades. That was just so freaking good way implementation of "story and consequence" in a RTS game. I would love to see a return of that feature in stormgate!
I really love that you guys are highlighting the social side of the game. Having it accessible to form and join groups is something that is missing dearly from gaming these days I find. It leads to all kinds of amazing things, including better new player experience and longevity and IMO is the core aspect to what made Warcraft 3 as successful as it was!
The map and scenario editor is key to prolonging the life of the game. I watch Korean competitive SC:BW and what changes the meta and keeps the game active are the new maps!
I discovered SC1 and 2 only recently so for me, I couldn't be happier to be joining the new era of what looks to be the best, if not one of, current day RTS.
@haakonglindtvad5489 AoE4 is very good, yeah, it just lacks a bit of staying power imo. I reckon its down to not really having "hero" type units like WC3, which offers a more personalised feeling to your build orders, but tis just my opinion.

I wish all the best to this game, and I’ll definitely support it, hope even when you’ll succeed, you still would communicate with your player base just as well.
Thank you so much for making this game and for everyone in the teams previous work on SC2 & Warcraft3 some of the best gaming years of my life with those games. Thank you so much for creating such amazing games. Stormgate genuinely looks like it’s gonna be the great game of all time!
I rarely support games on Kickstarter, but with both this and ZeroSpace I supported on day one. After seeing this video, I am now so optimistic for the future of the RTS genre, you guys are doing amazing work. I am so excited to be able to see what else you guys are working on, and even more excited to be able to get my hands on it. This looks like everything I've ever wanted from RTS games growing up, and the fact that you guys have such a big focus on coop, campaign and custom maps/mods etc, is just amazing. It's something so close to my heart (WC3 custom maps got me into software and game development in the first place!). Keep up the great work!
Stormgate Studios is the equivalent of the 1992 Olympic Dream Team for the RTS genre. It feels good knowing the developers actually care about the game they are making because they are just as big of fans of the genre that we are. Which makes sense, because some of them probably helped create the RTS genre.
People who think like this always set themselves up for disappointment. When you focus on "big names" you ignore the dozens or hundreds that propped those people up. There was another Gate...Hellgate London..It had the same story, I encourage you to look it up. I don't think this will fail, but the rock star names have proven pretty meaningless in gaming.
I've never really gotten into any RTS besides the Star Crafts (and C&C Generals). I wouldn't even consider myself and RTS fan since those are it. As such, I can't guarantee I'll even like this over SC2 but I backed and Im hyped to give it a shot. Happy to support it even if I don't like it. RTS needs more games.

As a long time strategy games and RTS games veteran, i gladly supported your new RTS game on Kickstarter and wish you good luck on your project. Long live RTS, the Epitome of Competitive Gaming.
Early access will come in summer 2024 if they respect what they have said. Kickstarter is not strictly needed for sure, it's just a plus to measure what level of interest is there for RTS, a genre that has been regressing for years unfortunately but still has a solid and loyal fan base. As far as the game in itself, from what has been shown from various gameplays published by streamers on You Tube, the game seems far from done to me. While the base framework is there, i see a lot of room for improvement and polishment.
Still a bit sad, that the setting is more starcraft than warcraft. But once you go kickstarter, i am there to support you! I'll always appreciate the great times you gave me with warcraft3 when i was still a teen. And hope that i can bring your cool stuff to my own kids once, their time comes 🎉

I'm so excited about this game! Salute and a massive W to the amazing team behind this project. I cannot begin to describe what RTS means to me and with people like these it makes me filled with joy to see that the response has been so received well! Goes to show how many people are feeling the same way. Bravo Frost Giant Games, Bravo!
I do not per-order games but I am watching this with great interest. If they deliver I will be all in. Good luck Frost Giant. I want you to succeed so badly.
I loved SC2 and I'd like to see what you guys have done to go beyond SC2 / wc3 experiences. It feels like "we're making everything sc2 has..." and I'm waiting for the "and more" part but im not quite getting that. That's just my impression (and i'm not fully sold) but things look pretty good and I'm excited to see where it goes.
It's about a million times more responsive. Also, the co-op mode looks to be better than SC2. Modern visuals, engine etc. But there's lots we haven't seen yet, like the 3rd race. Also interestingly, they said there'll be 3 races at launch... but we could get more in the future. SC2 never went beyond 3. Having just one more would be amazing.
@@jackrogers5712 I left my comment because I felt the things you listed were not significant enough to be exciting for me. Especially if the gameplay feels pretty much the same but different units. Mixed feelings about having more than 3 because of balance but I can see where you're coming from.
It's a winning formula though so they're careful not to venture too far from "what works". But there are unique ideas being introduced, especially in the VS AI / 3v3 side of things. Those modes are basically their playground for new ideas. The 1v1 mode is going to be ultra competitive and tap into the whole e-sports scene - they intentionally want to keep things a bit more under control and familiar there. Also, the modding scene is going to be INSANE. I'd be shocked if you couldn't create the "more" that you desire - or someone else will do it for you (I know I'll be modding on day 1). A game with solid modding tools can never truly fail in my opinion, it allows the community to create content that can outclass what the devs have come up with. I remember back in the day people were buying Warcraft 3 only to play DotA - they didn't even know the game had a Campaign or ladder gameplay.
@@jackrogers5712 More responsive than SC2? That doesn't seem possible, SC2 is almost perfectly fluid. It certainly has limitations, but that is not one of them. More races than 3 sounds like a balance nightmare.
@@coachmcguirk8277 SC2 in 2023 clearly doesn't work, especially when it comes to more casual audience. I keep seeing sc2 fans praising this project, yet I'm struggling to see ANY differences that would make a non-sc2 fan want to play this. So what's really groundbreaking about this game? Also while the artstyle is fine, I find the building/unit models to be awfully designed.
This really hits all the key points you could ask for in a modern RTS: alternative modes for more casual players, the ability to play ranked instantly for the ladder grinders, coop for people who want to play with friends, improved networking, and a full suite of tools for modders and custom campaign creators. It's also great to see the importance of an engaging setting and campaign being recognized, since that's where almost every new RTS player starts. You guys made my childhood with WC3 and The Frozen Throne back in your days at Blizzard, and I can't wait to see what you've created with Stormgate. Long live RTS!
I love how much effort is put into the map editor - as much as 1v1s, co-op, and campaigns will be important for the initial popularity of the game, a powerful map editor is by far the most important thing for the longevity of any RTS game.
Cool Frost Giant, It’s very cool so far, Great Work. However I feel the buildings could do with some visual improvements in their design/aesthetic. Can you make the buildings more interesting and cool? A lot of them, especially from the human faction look kind of uninteresting… One of the things that is great about Warcraft 2 and 3 and Starcraft is that the buildings are so iconic and have so much character, each one is distinctive and easily identifiable. Also, the terrain side of things in terms of adding more of the details such as ‘exotic plants’, environmental /visual effects such as Storms would really add a lot to the visuals (Lightening Storms and blizzards for example) and different colour mists/fog in some areas and ancient ruins of structures etc to make the terrain more visually pleasing and engaging, such attention to detail really enhances the immersive feeling of the game for both the player and the spectators, also the inclusion of interactive terrain which can be ‘blown up’ or somehow modified for realistic but just as importantly - tactical gameplay! Really looking forward to this Game, why not make it the best RTS yet, and outdo the others in EVERY way… as the expression goes: ‘The devil is in the details’. 💙
Tbh, I agree on making the buildings identifiable on sight but the other stuff is fluff that could increase the computer requirements. If they have settings that remove it then it's fine by me though.
You’re asking for too much, bud. Visual clarity is just as important as environmental effects and beauty. The buildings I agree on, but the rest is going to blow up PC requirement specs and may not be easy to implement in a way that can be turned off for lower end computers. At the end of the day though, it sounds like a lot of it is going to be in the hands of the community as well. The maps we’re seeing may be as vanilla as vanilla can be right now because it’s in development, I’m going to guess the sky will be the limit on release with the new editor.
@@5000Seabass I don't think there's as much tension here as you think there is. You can def make buildings look cool, distinct and unique without compromising performance. Likewise, having exotic creature/plant designs does not automatically correlate to reduced performance. It is possible to make things "pop" and have a distinct visual style while also maintaining high performance/low graphical requirements. Model designs, when done well, tend to be relatively cheap to render. The real gpu killers are things like special effects, shadows, and animations. To put a finer point to it, having a cool looking tree does not meaningfully impact performance requirements. Having the grass rustle as units move through them can impact performance.
I agree, I think the visual development overall is very generic. Interesting doesn't have to mean complex. I feel like they took their concept art references from other existing game concept art instead of trying to find reference that would've made for a more original design language and even inspire more interesting story themes.
I have to say, back in the 90s it was Blizzard and Westwood Studio that made me love videogames, First with C&C and WarCraft 2, then StarCraft, War3 and Frozen Throne, game that is still installed on my PC - the original Frozen Throne I mean, as I still own my physical copy from 2003. Because of that, the Stormgate project resonates in me, and I can feel the genuine passion in Tim's voice. I'll support you guys. And I wish you the best for this ambitious project.

@@shacuras8201 it isn't in my opinion. In fact i prefer Warcraft 2 because of its style, character and focus on units and not these heroes. Warcraft 3 was a regression in many ways. I really want to see this new age of RTS and I'm supportive of Frost Giant, but I just don't like the graphics and atmosphere of Stormgate. Feels too generic and sometimes (especially at lower graphics setting) too mobile game like. I just don't feel that kick what Warcraft and Starcraft had.
I'm sure it will be either visually modded to high heaven pretty quickly, or it will support army cosmetics. Being an e-sport places certain demands on the default visual style that sometimes do contradict aesthetics.
Yeah man I agree the visual aspect and design of the units and buildings needs improvement. We the fans have high standards growing up playing Games like Warcraft and Starcraft and even Tiberian Sun/C&C 3… which excel in the graphical design and art style of all the units and buildings + environmental effects etc. The design of the Buildings and basic units of the human faction seem quite bland and generic, just uninteresting in comparison. Details like this matter in RTS.
@@Wil_Dsense Plus character art has this "cute face" design. They look like it was drawn by a girl. Maybe I just got accustomed to the epic/brutal style what Samwise provided back in the day.
@@Ordo1980 god I know what you mean. In a more ‘extreme’ example, the Gnome in the warcraft rumble trailer looks like a bloody Dlsney character, aimed for 10yo girls. It feels massively insulting to their (Blizzard’s) original fanbase that supported them all those years. Warcraft was always massively characterised by it’s raw, dark and savage art-style, but was always realistic looking as-well. You’d think they would want to stray as far from the Dlsney cartoon style as possible, seeing as the art and design for StormGate is done by another Team entirely + is intended for a different target audience. To be fair from what I’ve seen, it’s nowhere near as bad as the Blizz/Activision designs….. I even noticed that similar cartoon design in the last few WoW animations/trailers (since they merged with Activision) which is quite pathetic going from brutal awesome to snowflakes basically… I still have faith in Frost Giant to not go this route and actually be COOL, like Blizzard used to be.

i'm ridiculously excited for this because of 1 thing. they started with building a solid map editor! if this is true i'm looking forward to some massive innovation. i remember when in wc3 tft custom games really took off. i mean LITERALLY multiple genres spawned from custom games in sc and wc tft polished them into absolute gems! i miss playing impossible bosses and other awesome customs!
the Frozen Throne campaign is literally my favourite campaign in the RTS genre! Lots of talented people working on this game. Makes me very excited :D
FOCKIN arthas sitting on that throne, what a traitorous prick
StarCraft 2 is my favorite game ever. I have at least 20,000 hours in it. I have met friends of over 10 years that I still talk with every day from StarCraft 2. I know there are a bunch of people like me who cannot wait for this game. Other RTS just don’t do it for me, but I know this one will.
The second i saw the guy leap over trees and bladestorm a group of units, I knew this was going to be an amazing game.
BladeMaster for the win!!! I LOVE the hero mechanic from Wc3. I see that they are kind of going back to that a little. I can't wait!!!
*Hammerstorm
If you could revive and enhance WC3's custom map scene as it was at its peak this will be my game of the decade. Goodluck FGS!
I feel like if this and ZeroSpace don't save the RTS scene next year, I don't think anything will!
Tempest Rising also?
also Immortals Gate
I didn't realise this was a thing! Thanks for the share! It's the year of RTS!!@@Appletank8
Its like a studio watched and really understood @GiantGrantGames and took all his ideas on what will make the next great rts and is doing it 😮😮😮
That one looks so beautiful...
I hope the story is very motivating for player to get invested in gameplay.
I discovered SC1 and 2 only recently so for me, I couldn't be happier to be joining the new era of what looks to be the best, if not one of, current day RTS.
Really looking forward to a really solid RTS, been a while!
People haven't heard of Age of empires 4? But yes this will be good
@haakonglindtvad5489 AoE4 is very good, yeah, it just lacks a bit of staying power imo. I reckon its down to not really having "hero" type units like WC3, which offers a more personalised feeling to your build orders, but tis just my opinion.
@@rdctd8690AoE4 didn't capture mainstream audience because it's just another competitive RTS with nothing new to show for. Stormgate is making the genre more approachable by introducing new game modes, coop play and other spicy stuff that keeps the average timmy with room temperature IQ and 60 APM interested because he'll be able to roflstomp AI and play with and against his friends.
Warcraft III was the game that introduced me to RTS games. So at first I wasnt too into the campaign but as soon as I heard "I was the lead campaign designer on Warcraft III and TFT" I instantly got hooked
Although I'm more of an Age of Empires enjoyer, I hope the genre goes far so thank you for keeping it going ❤
Oh so fantastic to see all these people I admire for making my favorite RTS games ever, together working on Stormgate!
I am so happy for this. RTS is one of my favorite genre. I'm so glad you have included a campaign and co op missions.
Love how you are delivering a full game - multiplayer, co-op, campaign, custom games, replays, etc. etc.
Too many games these days are half complete. They say it's 'agile' or whatever, I call it half assed.
Just backed $350. See you all in the beta!
You still enjoying it? Worth the $350?
First time supporting a Kickstarter. I truly hope you all succussed in delivering an amazing RTS game. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more about it. Hopefully playing it to :)
I'm so excited for Stormgate. After playing sc2 for the last 12 years I'm ready for something new!
@Frost Giant Studios omg i missed you guys, i cant wait to play the campain and be immersed in a story created by you guys, starcraft 1-2, warcraft III , all dreamy game with amazing story and gameplay, when i heard blizzard decided to stop this, i was so sad, but you guys are our rts gods keeping it alive in our hearts, long live to you guys!!!! im gonna wish list this for sure!!!!
I fell in love with rts from starcraft 64, now those same vibes are showing up for this game. Keep up the good work!
Free to play and emphasizing customization is smart. I don't know for sure if RTS can become big again, but your approach is giving it the best chance to succeed. Seems like you all are really throwing the kitchen sink at this, and as an RTS fan, I definitely appreciate it. Best of luck to your team!
I wish all the best to this game, and I’ll definitely support it, hope even when you’ll succeed, you still would communicate with your player base just as well.
I fell in love with this game because of the calmness and warmth in Tim Campbell's voice! 10/10 would play!
They pretty much already hit the kickstarter goal lol
Hit it in 15mins wtf
I once played SC on my mom's company laptop so long that I overheated it and bricked it. This was back in 2000. I'm so excited about this game
I was afraid that the RTS genre was dead, but I'm relieved to see the huge enthusiasm around this game!
Well done Frost Giant! Looks amazing
Engagement
The big Baddy Trully gave me chills, The same chills i got from SC2 am very excited
I love how you guys are putting so much effort on the modding scene right out of the gate!
Not been as excited for a game for years. This sounds so good and promising. Looking foward to a bright rts future
Exactly. I can't even remember the last time I was actually excited for a game. Until Stormgate.
So hyped, there's literally no down sides to Stormgate's success
1. We get an awesome RTS-game with Blizzard DNA
2. we get a success case study for old RTS developers to start pitching RTS again
Now onto feedback, please please please for the love of Terran Dominion, please make a good campaign and lore!
this is so exciting im not even a big rts player but warcraft iii was one of the first games id ever played and the storytelling in its campaign is still one of my favorites after all these years. rlly rlly excited to see it
As a long time strategy games and RTS games veteran, i gladly supported your new RTS game on Kickstarter and wish you good luck on your project.
Long live RTS, the Epitome of Competitive Gaming.
Not to sure why the need kickstart early access could has work as well. This game look almost done to me. Mable for three race and campaign.
I've got pretty high expectations from this. I just hope they can deliver.
The editor and the game being the same is really quite cool! Keep the Blizzard RTS thing alive!
When you have good people + good leading team making a game for the good reasons. There is no chance this game is bad. Can't wait to try all of this ! Let's goooo !!!
The game is looking better than I expected! Really nice work so far!
4:53 - "At the end of the day all what we really want to do is have a mech punch a dragon."
This is everything.
Just donated. Got a lot of years out of Starcraft. Hopefully this will live up to the old title. We need something at that level again.
I love how much effort is put into the map editor - as much as 1v1s, co-op, and campaigns will be important for the initial popularity of the game, a powerful map editor is by far the most important thing for the longevity of any RTS game.
Not my kind of game, but I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully the success will lead to more people trying out RTS games.
WOOHOOOOO I just can't thank you guys enough for creating a new RTS !!!!! count me in for the early access !!!!!
Je sens vraiment que le jeu va devenir une pure masterclass dans la décennie. Dès que je choperais l'accès à la bêta, je pars ratio le ladder ! à +
Donated to kickstarter. Glad to help support the RTS genre, and more specifically the Frost Giant team.
Having the grass rustle as units move through them can impact performance.
yeah the buildings truly feel a bit generic, if you ask me..
I agree, I think the visual development overall is very generic. Interesting doesn't have to mean complex. I feel like they took their concept art references from other existing game concept art instead of trying to find reference that would've made for a more original design language and even inspire more interesting story themes.
So glad I saw this. Haven't played an RTS worth playing in 10 years. Good luck and godspeed ❤❤
Holy shit, it's almost like if a company actually listened to what the playerbase likes!!
that's because the company is coming from the playerbase
"Having a mecha punch a dragon", very worthy goal, very much /r/HFY.
I can't wait to jump into this game in campaign and coop
I love everything about this. I have faith in you guys!
Really nice to see not everything is digital today and also physical goodies are produced!
OLG THIS IS THE MOST HYPED IBE BEEN BY FAAAR!!!
THE MAURADERS LOOKED AMAZING, INFERNAL UNITS ARE GIVING ME SUCHHHH A WARCRAFT VIBE IN THE BEST OF WAYS, GAMEPLAY IS LOOKING CRISP, CINEMATIC CAMERA GAVE ME SUCH A NOSTALGIA HIT AND MY GO OH MY GOD DO I WANNA KNOW WHAT THAT THIRD FACTION IS
In description: "We are Frost Giant Studios, and we love Real-Time Strategy games."
Straight to the point, everything you need to know.
up to 32 players????? wow.
this looks great. really hope you guys can recapture the magic of the classic RTS games of my youth
So excited for this game and studio!
Nothing but respect and support for y'all! Good luck with everything guys!
The experience and knowledge this team has is crazy, if anyone can make the best RTS ever it's them
you mean recreate Warcraft 3 in unreal engine, sure. Same old again
@@Cenot4ph You say that like Warcraft 3 isn't already one of the best RTS games of all time. Warcraft with improved unit control, better graphics, a new campaign story, an improved editor, and most importantly Coop? Sign me up
@@shacuras8201 it isn't in my opinion. In fact i prefer Warcraft 2 because of its style, character and focus on units and not these heroes.
Warcraft 3 was a regression in many ways. I may have an outlier taste in that i prefer RTS games that give me straight up units and base building and none of these special units that are the focus of gameplay too much.
I see the manager roaming the grounds at 0:17, I bet he's a really happy boy.
I feel a little bit sad that TotalBiscuit is not here to see this. I really hope this helps the re-emergence of the RTS genre!
Awww man this comment hit me harder than i expected, i miss TB and incontrol
this looks like the warcraft 3 of this generation, pretty sweet.
loved everything i saw besides the ui scale but that's just a minor detail.
Best of luck!
Put all that love you have for StarCraft into this game. We all wanted SC to be the chosen one that would save RTS, (or at least I did) but in the end it has to be this way.
Jupp
This feels like a blend of everything I enjoyed about Warcraft and StarCraft. I'm so excited
This is everything Blizzard used to be, AND MORE! I can't wait to give you my money.
JUST BACKED! Let’s go baby!!!! I love how they’re just like…we will take all blizzard IP (Diablo,Warcraft,StarCraft, and even the Overwatch heroes) and put it into one unhinged awesomefest. Also big Warhammer40k vibes!
@@p_serdiuk copium
Haven't seen a promising RTS in years, this is really peaking my interest! Very happy to hear custom maps are the future.
Wish it didn’t look like just another Blizzard rip-off. Be your own goddamn thing!
Starcraft and Warcraft were the first RTS I ever played and have loved them since. Backed the Kickstarter, I can't wait for this! ❤
