about 3km NW of Saint Coulomb, it took me a couple of weeks to figure this out using google earth, the position of the sun (late afternoon) and the character of the wind, I am in Australia, good detective work eh?
I think this kind of flying looks fun. Being at cloud base must be awesome too but closer to the ground you get a sense speed and movement in relation to your environment...and warmer too I guess :)
I am curious also to the whereabouts. We also enjoy this sort of lift on certain headlands, usually with a Southerly blowing but I am in the Southern Hemisphere, I am betting that this is in the Northern Hemisphere with a N-NE wind blowing late in the afternoon.
I would say he is getting thermal from the beach, he got way to high for ridge lift alone an note end flight looks smoth slow and low first flight sun strong and more heat to lift him. I have had in the past what you can only call Sea thermals as have had lift why well out over the water in winter, sea warmer than the land and all that. Great place to fly by look of video. Cheers pete
My guess is that its some kind of cloudsuck going on, and with that ALOT of wind. You can se he is flying a quite sharp glider and still dont fly very fast uppwind. If you get sufficient altitude with the soaring (as you probably would during strong winds like this) you can hit the cloudsuck =) Really nice one.
lots of fun watching this vid! wouldn´t care about guys who think it makes them smart when explaining you how the title should be. i call them jealous in general.
Damn dude!! I pumped the volume up to be able to listen to the vertical speed indicator, and then you start screaming like a fifteen year old girl in front of Justin Biever!! I almost go deaf!
Very observant. If he had a motor, how exactly was he controlling it? You see both of the pilots hands in the video and he is not holding any throttle control for a motor. You also see his shadow in the first 30 seconds and there is no motor. Wind isn't the only thing you didn't see!
Boa noite Amigo , Sou Marcelo de Jundiai São Paulo tambem sou piloto de parapente, gostaria de saber que lugar é esse , gostaria de conhecer ..Valeu Parabens pelo voo.. fico no aguardo ..google tradutor. Goodnight Friend, I am Marcelo de São Paulo Jundiai'm also a glider pilot, I wonder where this place is, I would like to know .. Thanks .. Congratulations for flight I am awaiting ..
Actually to be fair the bit when he gets high at 2 minutes and starts screaming must be more than ridge lift - looking at the sky I would say there were probably a few thermals around ...
No way this is just ridge lift, my bet is on the rocks in the right they heat up are funneled by de gulf, in contrast with the cold water = crazy lift, I sometimes get some sweet thermodynamic flight 200-300 meters over a small 40-50 meter ridge
there is no such thing as a thermal snooper.. yet.... all it is is an altitude meter, you go up and it beeps. thermals provide lift the same as ridge soaring does, but ridge soaring usually does not get you this high
Funny..funny....but thermal? No way...this is called "wave"..building itself on ridges, if there is enough wind and the terain is right to build it out...to find at myna soaring sites...we did the same in danmark, we do this often in germany...and at the coast in netherlands...Danmark: The dune got 80m and we climbed up to 263m...only physics....but crazy? Hm.... :-)...regards from germany..have fun...allways save landings...
find a paragliding school that does BHPA training if in Europe or just find a local one if elsewhere. I live in the UK but am going to Bulgaria next year to do my EP + CP course, have all my kit already and just need the training now. UK weather is crap, book a holiday in a nice place that has a paragliding school, you won't regret it! The weather will be great and the scenery is spectacular!
So you think you can ridge soar every day and reach this high? If your answer is yes then I can say with confidence that you never ever paraglide in your life.
I'm sorry but how can you spend your time soaring the ridge with those wonderful cumulus in your back? And WTF do you need a variometer in this situation ????? Go up to the clouds man...The REAL paragliding....otherwise better start kiting.... Best wishes...
Amazeballs. It taught me quite a lot about how the paraglider handles. I start my course in 9 days and can't wait!
Cheers for posting this up :)
Beach flying has its excitement too; I do both mountains and beaches, each one need to be flown somewhat differently,I like them both.

Looks like quite a windy day, you can see the pilot use the speed bar to push forwards once he gains height!
Looks a nice place to fly ☺
That was one hell of a lucky flight!
I think this kind of flying looks fun. Being at cloud base must be awesome too but closer to the ground you get a sense speed and movement in relation to your environment...and warmer too I guess :)
i flew this site last month, and it's really nice, the first day was a bit fickle, but the second was booming - got high but not as high as this dude!
I am curious also to the whereabouts. We also enjoy this sort of lift on certain headlands, usually with a Southerly blowing but I am in the Southern Hemisphere, I am betting that this is in the Northern Hemisphere with a N-NE wind blowing late in the afternoon.
ridge souring and then, you never no where a flight can lead to

Very nice. What kind of wing is being used?

Very good ! I will try it in Litochoro beach, in Hellas.

you had to have motor. I see no wind.
if its a ridge lift whats with the thermal snooper going crazy for while he is rising ?
there is no such thing as a thermal snooper.. yet.... all it is is an altitude meter, you go up and it beeps. thermals provide lift the same as ridge soaring does, but ridge soaring usually does not get you this high

That sounds hella
what is crazy about this video - did I missed something. That is how you collecting watchers by attractive title?
completely WRONG description.
He is NOT parasailing. He is paragliding.
He is NOT riding the sea thermals. He is flying the ridge lift.
how do you get into this?
find a paragliding school that does BHPA training if in Europe or just find a local one if elsewhere. I live in the UK but am going to Bulgaria next year to do my EP + CP course, have all my kit already and just need the training now.
