    Works good in winter inside a sleeping bag. For added warmth.

      I can imagine. Mine is getting way more use than I anticipated just around the house.

    Bought a helikon tex swagman roll a few years ago, best bang for the buck in my bag. Works good for the rain as a poncho, and also a good inner liner for another sleeping bag during winter

      They look good, but my understanding is they might not be a good option for 'more generously proportioned' gentleman in sleeping bag form. Its put me off a bit.

    I have exactly the same model. I use mine here in Aus 🇦🇺 as quilt during summer camping trips.
    In winter I use it as a carpet inside my tent.

      I bet its a little bit warmer in Oz than it is in the UK!

      @@dogdadoutdoors gets down to just below 0 at night in winter in my part of New South Wales. In Summer though, we do get 40 degree plus days.

    After years of using one, i recently got myself a "new" one, still works like a charm, like you said, with gear under it, very decent for summer., i've found myself sleeping on top when to tired to take clothes of after i already fell asleep..
    A great detailed video, i always am surprised how much Dutch gear is actually cheaper across the pond (North Sea) then it is in its country of origin..
    ATB and a get well soon from The Netherlands!

      I'm loving the Dutch gear I've bought so far, I have a hooped Bivi, the hyena 35l daysack, a poncho and now this. Great kit.

    I got a knock-off (but good quality) woobi. I then picked up an XL Snugpac Jungle blanket. I use it in the caravan - it packs down smaller than the woobi, is slightly lighter and the dogs lay on it all the time. Hardly ever been cold with it - although the two furry hot water bottles may have helped there!!. If I need to make attachment points I use those little tarp clips on the Jungle blanket. Woobi now is used mostly in my hammock and - like you said- a useful car blanket for the dogs! Good pieces of kit and worth getting a few different sizes. Good video and hope you feel much better soon.

      Thanks sue. The jungle blanket does indeed look like a good item.

    I have several USGI poncho liners including the one with a zipper. Love these things. If you can, check out the Helikon-Tex Swagman roll. It's good. Has a hood and uses Climashield insulation. Also the Kifaru woobie is good. It is thicker than USGI one and also uses Climashield. Your video was great and an honest review of the limits of the poncho liner. Not meant to replace a sleeping bag when it gets really cold, but a solid piece of kit. Thanks.

      Thank you. I love the idea of the swagman roll but I've been told they are not so good in sleeping bag mode if you are on the larger side. I could definitely see me rocking one of those when I'm hanging out for hours making a video in the winter though as a poncho.

      @@dogdadoutdoors yeah the Swagman is not real big but neither am i so it works well for me. I am not built for bar room brawls however at 5' 8" and 140 pounds haha. It's a tradeoff.

    There is apparently a new version used by US Marines that zippers closed like a sleeping bag.
    I was also told by a reservist that the woobie is allowed while on sentry duty in his unit. I guess that may be another appeal.

      I've seen a review on them, The outdoor gear review I think it was. Seems like a good upgrade.

    Another great episode, I hope you recover soon and can then get out and about.
    Having recently acquired one to fit in my poncho as intended, I was a little surprised after tying it in all the way round,that it then can't be used due to the fact there isn't a hole provided to pop it over your head!
    I'm sure the addition of some velcro or a zip could get round this, but I wonder how head of procurements hasn't already taken care of it, because there must be a lot of pissed off squaddies out there with something to say about it, or is it just me?

      Yank veteran here... It's called a "poncho liner" because it's meant to be used with the poncho as a form of Sleep System... a relatively "waterproof" blanket, as a sleeping bag (look up "Ranger Roll"), or even two (with the liners tied to its inside of the poncho) ponchos snapped together as "A" frame shelter in cold climates when you also have the fancy, multi bag, sleeping bags. Some civilians have modified the poncho liners so there is a "hole" for the head. In the military its presumed that one is already wearing apparel suitable for the temperature. The poncho as outer wear to keep dry in precipitation/snow.

      @dogdadoutdoors  Месяц назад

      Yes, @baronedpiemonte3990 answered it perfectly. If you wanted something you could wear under a poncho but use as blanket or sleeping bag too, have you see the Swagman roll from Helikon Tex. Not cheap and cheerful like this, but seems like a well thought out product.

    Dad, i have had one for years genuine articl. They are not perfect, but do what they say and very versatile can be used for nmany things. Issued to most nato forces includjng uk and usa.
    There are three parts to it, the poncho being the key.
    Poncho, then iner blanket od woobie goes inside, this is quite thin..
    The third item is the outer blanked which is much thicker more like a quilt for colder conditions.
    I use the inner blanket on my bed in summer as its hot, stops you sweating so much if hot.

    • @dogdadoutdoors
      @dogdadoutdoors  Месяц назад +1

      That's interesting, I've not heard of the 3rd part to it. I have the Poncho and the liner, I'll have to look into that. thanks!
