They’re literally admitting fault by saying they won’t go back to the first place for therapy because they didn’t follow the advice given, they’re just going to keep going to different therapists until they hear what they want to, not what they need to

NTA. I can understand focusing more attention to your sister because of her disability but fully ignoring you is not ok. You needed attention too. They made their choice. They have to live with the consequences.

I have a disability, while my dad split his attention between me and my brother evenly(well, tried at least).
The only thing my dad did that was meant for my older brother was his CD(not sure what it fully means but my grandparents(dad's side), put two CDs up for me and my older brother)
He had used his CD and mine for treatments for my disability, as his health insurance wouldn't cover it, and my mom refused to also put me under her insurance as well(her's would've covered it completely) or pay child support or anything that would've helped.
So my dad just let everybody think that he stole the money for his gambling, as he didn't want my older brother to hate me for it.
Only my dad, me, and my husband know.
Not even my stepmom knows about this.
He plans on taking this secret with him to the grave.
He does feel guilty for it but he has been stuck in a hard and rough spot, it was either going completely broke to afford my treatments or risk getting me killed if it went untreated.
The parents should've split (or at least tried to) their attention with both of their children instead of just one.
Because depending on the state, the child could move out at 15 if they could prove they have a stable income, able to go to school with no issues, and least a bill in their name, then they're able to move out and get an apartment.
I hope OP lives in a state that allows this.
OP needs to get away from those people, because clearly they cant handle two children.
      And go no-contact with them.

@@missraven420 If anyone is wondering. Dad stole what was probably a pretty damn good chunk of money from his son for the benefit of his daughter. Period. He's a piece of shit and I sincerely hope the son knows or finds out.

They’re looking at who’s gonna take care of his sister when the parents are too old or infirmed themselves and they want to care for the sister. I’d say no and run when I’m 18.

You're probably right. They're wanting something from him and that makes the most sense.
Of course they may not want to wait that long. They may want him to take over her care ASAP.

How do they just leave one kid at home when they take the other out? Like other families have more than one kid and take them both to the same place, it had to be purposeful

Yeah, I also had that happen to me. I just didn't do as well in school because I didn't like to do homework. For me, 10% was okay to let slip for some mental health time

They are probably trying to "reconnect" so they can guilt you into being your sisters caregiver when they are gone.

NTA. I've said it once and I'll say it again: parents who play favorites for any reason are bad parents and don't deserve forgiveness.

I feel sad for him, it reminds me of a similar story where a kid was born with disabilities and the healthy kid went to live with their aunt/uncle and around 12 years later the kid died and the parents wanted to take the healthy kid who’s now an adult with them like nothing ever happened.

Just because they say they want to work on it doesn't mean there action correlate. They have shown you that they are willing to do the work to fix the relationship. They are not worth your precious time and energy.

Attitude makes all of the difference. You can choose to be a victim or a survivor. Being the “other” child is torture. I know. Op is doing well with asserting her independence. Not that she wanted it. She will be a survivor.

NTA. “We can’t go back to the old therapist because they’ll be mad at us!” …. The audacity to say that but also not admit that they’re 100% in the wrong is incredible. Why should you keep making the effort to fix things when you’re met with nothing in return?

Maybe hearing the same thing from another therapist will help them waking up. If not, let them be and focus on college and friends.

I have a little sister with autism (high-functioning) and yeah they put her first a lot, which sucked.
HOWEVER: when I was able to voice my feelings on it, my mom realized the unfairness and decided to try and make time for me. From that point on, we did mother-daughter stuff where it was just us, and also being there to talk & listen to my issues/feelings. This probably saved my life, as when I became suicidal (from school stuff, long story) I ran to her for help: she helped me seek help and gave me all the support a good parent does.
Point is: having kids with special needs can make one being favoured at times, but that doesn’t give a pass to flat out ignore your other kids
FYI: dad was there….but he’s not too good at touchy-feeling stuff
