A long time ago, I had a female coworker that had the 1st disorder and smelled like rotten fish. Everybody treated no different than anyone else. We all knew it was a disorder and not her fault.

You and your coworkers are amazing people since this is unheard of in the current critical world. Most TMAU patients can cure themselves by living a vegan lifestyle and has helped many with it. I'm sure you've noticed different strengths of her smell depending on what she ate for lunch.

@@pamelamorris3148 Actually, there is no cure for TMAU its a genetic disorder. You can only manage it by eating a strict diet low in Choline. Saying to eat a vegan diet is also misleading because someone that has this condition cannot eat legumes, anything in the broccoli family, nuts, and much more. There are more fruits and veggies that are on the do not eat list. Ive met two people with this condition. The reason you may not see people with this disorder is because having this disorder isolates you. People are very mean to say the least.

I struggle with an odor problem. My odor is so strong that everyone in a room can notice, and they sneeze, cough.I've started to isolate myself from others .I feel super shy. I'm preparing for university exam, and I'm very stressful. It's really hard when you don't have anyone to tell anything... ı don't know what to do with my situation... it's really impacting my mental health.

Keto+fasting, no gluten, no dairy, add fish, cleanse lymphatic system with licorice root, add high dosage of vitamin D+k2, eat anti fungal iron anti helmints herbs
It will lower it but not kill completely. I can only promise 80-90% reduction of smell

1. Shave your underarm hair.
2. Pay attention to what you eat; have a healthy diet.

Im glad to see there are more educational videos on TMAU. I hope people can understand that it has absolutely NOTHING to do with hygiene it is a metabolic disorder that can only be managed but there is no cure unfortunately. So if you happen to run into someone that smells like rotten fish, trash/dumpster, flatulence, or fecal matter and they seem clean; dont be mean just go about your day, im sure they already have a very hard time living with it there is no need to add to their already difficult situation. Don't you worry about what other people think, always be yourself. Look into a brand called Lume deodorant and you'll see it has helped people with this condition. Also, look into your diet as many have found having a vegan diet immediately will eliminate the smells as they come out depending on what you're ingesting into your body.

@@pamelamorris3148 It takes months of eating a strict TMAU diet (not vegan) for you to see a change in your body odor. It doesn't happen over night. There are several videos on this disorder that you can watch and educate yourself. Also, see there are so many people with this condition that are trying to manage it. I encourage everyone on this thread to watch them. They are very helpful.

Ikr, they just don't realize that you are what you eat and have awful food and diet habits. There are very few people actually diagnosed by medical professionals. It's all these people thinking that's what they have when they're too lazy to get tested.

I am 34 and now and for the last 2 months i have been smelling so bad that i am isolating myself from the rest of the world i have changed my soap and deodorant and prefumes nothing seems to be working my groin area sweats so fast that in 5 minutes time my whole clothing smells bad when I pass by someone they either cough or sneezed what can I do to stop that 😢😔😫😫

I think we can raise a good number of other metabolic disorders which lead to unusual odours - Maple Syrup Urine Disease for one (branched-chain ketoaciduria) and, as I recall, a number of the fatty acid beta oxidation disorders (VLCHAD - very long chain Acetyl-CoA dehydrongenase deficiency at least). The metabolic disorders as a class tend to cause such symptoms due to the build up of organic compounds due to a block (due to enzyme deficiency/inactivity) at some point in the metabolism process. They tend to be quite nasty and difficult to treat with avoidance of the problem compound (if possible) through diet and, rarely, enzyme replacement (such as for Pompe disease - acid maltase deficiency). The fatty acid beta oxidation disorders can be even more interesting - to varying degrees you cannot metabolise fats/lipids and can only really rely on carbohydrates (sugars) and protein breakdown. The basic sugar reserve being glycogen in the liver (lasting ~24hrs if repleted, then stores going to fat). I believe we had a very sad such case a few years ago who presented absolutely hypoglycaemic but not ketotic at ~18 (very unusual presentation, cause is pretty much either hyperinsulinism - endogenous or exogenous - or fatty acid metabolic disorder) who ultimately died - turned out to be either LCHAD or VLCHAD I think. The interesting part is that the patient had made it to that age by drinking ~10+ cans of coke a day - so was correcting for it with huge carbohydrate intakes.

One time I had an odd bitter taste in my mouth, and after being in my room doing school work and games on my computer for a few hours, my mother walked in and noted that my room smelled heavily of cigarettes despite that I've never smoked once in my life.
Do we know if there's a specific chemical that gives cigarette smoke it's unique smell and if there are any known biological chemicals that mimic said smell?

Just a heads up to anyone interested in 23&Me - the company can use and sell your genetic information in aggregate form to anyone they want to (most likely med. research). May not be a deal-breaker for most, but people should still be informed before completing a kit in case they don't care to be a part of a giant DNA research pool.

Since its very difficult to get tested for trimethylaminuria (TMAU), many people don’t actually know if they have it or not. Alot of us have leaky gut syndrome and can cause you to smell as well. Try to heal your gut too.

I visited a couple of cancer patients lately, one I know for sure had colon cancer, and the stench in the room was almost unbearable. Is it always like this? I mean, for cancer patients?

In school I started to smell weird not that anyone says anything, it just when I look at the person next to me there covering there noise it started back in late 5th grade when I asked my brother he said I smelled a very strange way but not exactly a bad smell either.

I think body odor smells and stuff that are very interesting. I was hoping you would talk about “old people smell.” Also, I once worked for a man who drank at least 12 cups of coffee a day. He exuded the smell of coffee from his body. It was very odd, but not bothersome because everyone else in the office also drank coffee. I think there are other illnesses that cause weird body odors, especially related to the liver not working properly.
U r right, I was told I had massive fatty liver, mine started 2yrs ago when I was 42yrs, its been hard, affected my self confidence. People cough or make faces, is hard to make friends and go places because u r so conscious of ur smell, no matter the soap or cream even food. Am doing keto diet now, more of vegetable and salmon or little chicken if I had to eat protein. I just pray ,is all I can do to get by.

Also bought vitamins for women to help is hormonal issues and am drinking chlorophyll , I did that sometime ago for months and didt see any changes. But recently started it again. I will search for vegetables i can eat. I really love broccoli and salmon fish but will stop it. What about eggs and chicken since am doing keto diet.

Video topic request... why do some people think coffee smells like cat pee? I've loved coffee for well over 40 years, but I just discovered today that my (non-coffee drinking) wife of 8 years thinks almost all coffee smells like cat pee when brewed. I don't smell that at all, so I figured that maybe it's a genetic thing like the ability to smell asparagus in human urine. I Googled and found that, yes, this is a thing for many people. Nobody really has an answer, but some say they only smell it after brewed coffee has been sitting for 20 or 30 minutes, others claim the smell is immediate after brewing. I found a couple of references to MMB (3-Mercapto-3-methylbutan-1-ol) which is found in feline urine and pheromones but also in Sauvignon Blanc wines as the possible culprit, but I don't think there are any studies to back this up.
EDIT: I just read a post from 2010 where someone reported that their cats like to do the "bury" scraping motion around any cups of coffee they don't finish, which might add credence to the MMB hypothesis since it is in both cat urine and pheromones.

Im so worried about my daughter. Shes 12, she doesnt smell like fish, cabbage or anything but stinky sweat. I initially thought it was the hormones as she is in her puberty but now im beginning to worry. I will take her to the doctor next sat and see what she says. Hopefully is something treatable.

I suffer from body odor.
It is mostly from a low thyroid. Low metabolism. Your body is not working efficiently. Building up crud.
After increasing my thyroid medication the odor problem is going away. It just takes a long time (over 9 months now) for my body to get rid of the build-up of junk from the 23 years or more that my thyroid was super low. Drinking water and mild exercise helps.
Methionine is an amino acid the body needs, consumed from foods you eat, to help your joints that is converted in the liver to sam-e that your joints actually need and use to keep your joints lubricated and working well to include your spine.
Low Aldosterone and Renin can cause body odor too. A symptom is craving bananas.
Be careful out there folks because the doctors do NOT know what they are doing when it comes to thyroid health especially the endocrinologists. They have been taught wrong.

You MUST get a prescription for thyroid medication from a credible doctor ideally from an Endocrinologist who specializes in hormones.
Thyroid medication, most common is Synthroid, is a very dangerous medication if not properly prescribed based on lab test results after taking blood at 7 am. I know because an Endocrinologist pretending they knew what they were doing nearly killed me by over-prescribing Synthroid medication that nearly killed me.
If you can't get to a doctor and need a little help you can eat shellfish and sea weed such as Kelp because they contain high levels of iodine which is the main ingredient in thyroid medication.
But, be very careful.
Iodine is also added to salt, government mandated due to populace deficiency in the past. BEWARE because large consumption of salts can destroy your kidneys.

An ancient cure for body odor was to cover it up using a toilet spray.
I am currently using a Christian Dior Parfum called Sauvage. The toilet spray I spray in my arm pits and the Parfum (expensive because it is the best smelling) I spray on my hair. Yes, even my scalp stinks.

The thyroid gland manages the body’s biological systems to do many things. The most important is metabolism. Most of the medical providers today are not correctly assessing their patients’ status of metabolism.
The metabolism is the efficiency of the body. It keeps you breathing, your heart beating correctly and numerous other functions. If your body’s metabolism slows down then it is much less efficient and will suffer the consequences. You may have such symptoms as hoarse voice, coarse hair, weight gain, cold hands, cold feet (both hands and feet feel hot all the time in warmer climates and cold as ice in cooler climates), dryness and scaling of the skin especially the hands and feet that may crack open and bleed, tiredness, fatigue, lethargy, lack of enthusiasm, sleep too much, loss of appetite, brittle nails, half eyebrows, skin sores mostly of the feet and hands and lower extremities from the elbows and knees outward, muscle weakness, constipation, abdominal distress, painful stiffness and swelling of the joints, depression, slowed healing of sores or wounds, slowed heart rate, clogged arteries, impaired memory, low body temperature, foul body odor, bad breath, moodiness and thinning hair. It may take longer to get over an illness such as a cold or the flu. It may take longer for wounds to heal from surgery or accidents.
The efficiency of metabolism is based on the amount of Triiodothyronine also known for its short designation as T3. It affects every physiological process in the body, including growth and development, body temperature, cellular tissue maintenance and even your heart rate.
The monitoring of the levels of T3 in the body is the responsibility of the Hypothalamus as a feedback mechanism. The hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland that the body needs more T4 produced by the thyroid gland so that the T4 can be converted to the active T3 the body uses to repair and maintain itself. The T4 is not active. Its only purpose is to be converted to T3. T4 has a very short life.
When a person is on Levothyroxine also known as T4, brand named Synthroid, then only the Total T3 and Free T3 need be monitored. Those are the targets of replacement Levothyroxine or L-Thyroxine in the form of thyroid medication, also known as ‘replacement T4’. It is the T3 that does all the work in the body. That is why the thyroid gland produces so much T4 so as to have ample supply for conversion to T3. Working hard or exercising the body will need more T3. When on replacement you may not have enough.
T4 is converted into T3 for use by the body’s metabolic system to maintain and refresh the tissues and cells throughout the body.
When a patient takes T4 in the form of Synthroid it is absorbed into the bloodstream and converted to T3 by the liver. A liver function test is recommended. Not all of the medication is absorbed or converted by the liver so the monitoring of T3 is critical to obtain an efficient level of T3 available to the metabolic system. Since the T4 is consumed by the body through medication it is foreign to the body. In other words, the body did not produce it so the body may reject it or some of it. So, an adequate replacement amount needs to be administered in order for the body to get enough T4 to convert to T3 to satisfy the need of the body’s metabolism.
Without a functioning thyroid gland or Pituitary Gland the patient is in danger of a much reduced metabolic rate and will suffer the ill effects of such. They may even die due to not enough T3 to sustain life.
T3 is the workhorse of the body and a critical factor in good body maintenance and sense of well being. Feeling good is ideal.
WARNING to those who eat shellfish (Crab, Lobster, Shrimp and the like) and/or seaweed. If you are on replacement or supplemental thyroid medication then you must avoid these types of food. Using Kelp or other seaweed while on replacement T4 to help with a thyroid issue, such as weight loss, may cause fainting spells and/ or seizures. These foods can cause hyperthyroidism.
CAUTION - Raising and lowering this medication MUST be limited to 25 mcg maximum or it may cause harm to the patient. At levels above 75 mcg a dosage change must be limited to 13 mcg maximum. When changing dosage allow 8-12 weeks for full absorption and leveling in the body’s system before labs are drawn to check the level. 9 weeks is optimal for most people.
Allow for the body to get rid of the bad stuff that has built up during the years of low thyroid and repair itself. This process may take 12 weeks or more. Diet changes and mild exercise will help the body rid itself of the excess more efficiently and possibly sooner. Walking is one of the very best ways to do this. Calisthenics will help loosen the joints and use a majority of the muscles if the proper technique is used. Don’t overdo it. Smoking tobacco and drinking alcohol may slow this process. Advanced age is detrimental to recovery.
Patients should be taking T4 in the morning not evening. 6 am is ideal. Set an alarm. Laboratories are not open at night except for emergency rooms. NEVER take medication before a blood draw as it will reveal a false result - too high of levels. A minimum of 24 hours must pass for a more accurate result. 25 hours is ideal for trough accuracy. Take the medication with you to the lab at 7 am and take it immediately after the blood draw then you must wait 1 hour before taking other medications and consuming food. You need to wait 1 ½ hours for coffee because it will interfere with absorption. Always take with water only.

I'm trying to understand why my coworker smells so bad. After watching this video, I'm still not sure what he has because he doesn't smell like fish, cheese, or boiled cabbage; just very, very musky. Try taking some vitamin supplements for a month or two and see if it helps . Zinc deficiency can make you smell. Deodorant can cause you to smell also look at the active ingredient you may have to switch deodorant.

Yes that is because the liver process everything u take in through mouth, nose or skin. People who use toning creams or bleaching cream suffer liver problems, people who use chemicals to clean their house, office or work as cleaners suffer this too if not ealier it will come later. Chemicals are bad for the liver.

OBGYN's sometimes do a whiff test to detect certain infections, and so do dentist. They use a very small stick like thing and once it's put down in the tooth hole they stick it in there and smell it. ewww

I knew a little boy where i worked at a day care...they did everything they could think of to help the little guy smell better...even the drs. Couldn't figure it out...we all felt soo bad for him...the oder would litterly stay with you after you touched him...this was in the late 70's...latter on i saw a tv show...that if someone had something lodged up their nose...it would cause oder...i hope that boy found help.😓

I used this for a uti infection, but I stopped using it because I started getting this really bad odor that was coming from my body and sweat. U r right, mine started after I was placed on antibiotics for 3months. Also check ur liver and kidneys. This can after the way u smell if you have liver problems. Don't check through blood work, try scan because there more in the image that tells if ur liver is massively fatty. I had that too, which am trying so had to bring down. When ur liver is not working very well, everything in ur body starts acting up. Ur insulin, blood pressure, blood sugar, thyroid, eyes, it can get very ugly. Believe me. The first thing everyone should look out for is ur liver.
