    As a resident of the island I think you gave a very fair and concise report on our island. Anyone who does not think the island is special really needs to come and visit us.

      When I was there, over a decade ago, took the walk along the old railway line from the lighthouse back into town and then after a few shandys had a very fraught walk to St Helier :)

    As a born and bred Jersey girl , it was funny hearing you pronounce some of our names … it catches everyone out ! St Ouens is pronounced ‘Wons’ lol as for modern buses , we do now have an electric bus.. more to come I think ..if they have anywhere to charge it ! As for usbs …. Your not normally on bus long enough and you would be having to unplug it all the time if you did not have a window seat to let people on and off the seat.. most tourists tend to book a full or half day coach tour with one of the local coach companies .. buses tend to be used for getting from A to B and not an island tour .. depending on how much you use it, the ticket you had was good value as a single cash journey is £2.25 …

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Год назад

      Hi Lisa, thanks for the info - very useful. Yes I saw one of those tourist buses at Corbiere - a blue one, can’t remember the name tbh. Not my thing tbh, I much prefer the normal public transport and yes, the day ticket I thought was decent value. Good to hear ev’s are coming and apologies for the pronunciation- hope I got a few right! 😊

    the tall German range finder tower at Corbiere is one of the Holiday Lets that you can rent from Jersey Heritage, which is the museum service. so it is worth staying in one of their unique lets, as you get a pass to all of their attractions around the island.

    Great video Mark.
    Optares are quite handy vehicles, particularly for smaller islands. I do remember that there were Optare Solo SR buses even here in Malta, some during the time of Arriva Malta (now back in the UK) and others that came on loan between 2014 and 2015. Funny enough, regarding the former London Scania you boarded, these went a bit here and there and we also have one of those in Malta and one another in Gozo
    Indeed £8.50 a day is a great value for money to visit the island. I definitely need to pay a visit to the channel Island, as it seems you had a great time.
    Anyway, also thanks for the tip on roaming charges in Jersey, as usually my mobile phone plan includes the whole EU and UK, but did not know that the Channel Islands never adopted the roam like at home.

    • @LetsMakeaTrip
      @LetsMakeaTrip  Год назад

      Cheers Enrico, Isle of Man is the same with the roaming charges btw. We have quite a few Optares in Shropshire. They do urban routes but also it’s quite rural round here so they’re used on the country routes too. Quite versatile really 👍

    Interesting video and view of the service; I've been to Jersey 3 times in recent years and each time stayed in a different place (Gorey Pier, St Helier and St Aubin). I find the bus service to be absolutely excellent - the island is so small you don't really fancy stuff and USBs - and the cost of replacing a fleet that's doing a grand job suited to the island would be odd. It was lovely to see familiar and favourite places - you were unlucky with the weather - in good summer sunshine a friend and I got off at the same stop as you for Corbiere and then walked to L'etacq stopping for a swim and lunch halfway along St Ouens bay - what a fab day that was - we worked out it was about 12 miles all in. A lovely island, beautiful scenery but since the pandemic, eye-wateringly expensive.

Optare Solo perfect for right narrow roads, unusual with the wheel in front of the driver (and door) as opposed to behind driver (and door) on normal buses. Brilliant little island, went there in the early to mid-80’s (when Bergerac was on tv). Surprised they don’t have electric buses as we have in Inverness, would be perfectly suited for Jersey

    Mark my dear, may I offer a suggestion. Having been in broadcasting for decades i can tell you this. Tis better to voice over sections where the background is overwhelming. I could not understand much after you scanned the ticket and sat down. When you listen back as editing before publishing try it on a device not attached to headphones.
    I watch on my main telly for example.
    As always best wishes for your continued success.

      Cheers Rachel - I don’t listen back through headphones tbh I use studio monitors wired from the pc. Normally I’ll reduce the background noise on the track if I’m narrating over it. Mind you, having played in bands for nigh-on 35 years now, my hearing’s gone a bit! I’ve been using in-ears for years now though and they do help - best thing I ever bought gig-wise 👍

    Are the Channel Islands like the Isle of Man?
    I mean, they're another country that forms part of the United Kingdom, like Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, Right?

      They are British Crown Dependencies. They are self governing but His Majesty is their head of state. The British government manages their foreign policies and defence and ultimately can interfere to change certain laws in certain circumstances. e.g. LGBTQ+ rights. Corporal punishment.

      I read somewhere that the person who deals with the tourism in Jersey isn't happy as not as many people are visiting from France due them not being able to use their EU ID cards to enter Jersey or something. So they to will probably eventually want to removed themselves from anything to do with the UK 🇬🇧 at some point too. I have a feeling that the Common travel area may last to much longer at this point.

      Very similar in terms of mobile phone data unfortunately i.e. no issues with using mine as normal just across in France but in the British Crown Dependencies - forget it!

    Hi Mark how you doing mate? Great video as always well edited and great background music added sure is different seeing you finding your way to the buses and knowing which one to take to explore the whole of Jersey, its good that's there's someone on the desk to help out if your stuck on where to go plus pay for your ticket £8.50 is a ok price for a whole day ticket, sure is an average standard Optare bus indeed those pesky school kids sure annoyed that poor bus driver good thing there was a teacher onboard to tell them off beautiful views of Gorey indeed you didn't look very impressed of that bus journey to Gorey at all due to them naughty school kids, Corbiere light house looks very interesting indeed it is good that people can go inside it, sure was a change to see a Scania double decker instead all the way to L'Etacq that looked very boring indeed a bunch of nothing at all the other passengers looked annoyed too, you sure had a very long walk to Leoville to go back to St Helier once again the last one of the day anyways hope you having a good afternoon Mark and keep up the great content on the channel as always as its so great 👍

    Old fashioned and unfashionable?Optare Solos are common in many places, and they're rarely equipped with USB ports and so on . Neither are Wright Streetlites or Enviro 200s or many of the buses you'll find outside London or flagship routes in other cities
