    The RT4K looks amazing, but I don't feel like the sharpness is worth upgrading from my Tink 2x Pro. Great video! Looking forward to more PS2 games showcased on this thing.

    You put a lot of work into these Retrotink videos, I have to admit. CRT filters look interesting and if HDR can improve the low brightness issue I had with scalines then I guess the quality shold be comparable to PVM CRT monitor. But I just wish the PS2 console would be more capable. This console had only 4MB VRAM and without texture compression most developers used 480i in their games (in fact some games run even at sub 640x480i). There's a noticeable difference between 480i / 480p and "Black" is very good example, the image in this game look way sharper compared to other games running at 480i.
    BTW. GT4 is only upacaled to 1080i, it's better to use 480p mode in this game.

      @jsr734 Ok, so I have been trying out different video modes in GT4 on both the PS2 console and the PCSX2 emulator. On the emulator it says that the game is running at 576x960, however the image look upscaled when I run it at pixel mapped 1:1, so the game must run at lower resolution. It's however still above 640x480 for sure, because on the real console and on my panasonic GT60 plasma the game look better in 1080i mode. I can see less pixelation on the car and other objects. There's also no additional shimmering compared to the 480p mode, so I guess my old LCD was to blame after all the last time I have played GT4.

    • @PabloB888
      @PabloB888 8 месяцев назад +1

      @jsr734 There's indeed dithering in 480p/480p modes, but the 480i image is so bad that there's no point in playing in 480i anyway IMO. On the PCSX2 emulator I can turn off dithering, and it seems to me that the game always renders in 32bit color, so if someone wants uncompromised image quality the PCSX2 emulator is the way to go. The last time I have run this game one the emulator I had some graphics glitches, but now everything renders correctly.

    PS2 looks best on an old school HDR TV in my opinion. There’s so much shimmer/flicker going on with upscaling this, it drives me nuts. Don’t get me wrong,, RT4K is a super-amazing device!!!! But textures from buildings, lightning poles and stuff in the racing games seem to be sooo difficult to get correct on 4K displays. Also N64, same story, i guess they need smoothing filters…. The 16 bit stuff, Wii looks gorgeous btw (seen from other videos)

      Did you mean old school crt? Because yes it does, the PS2 also has a lot of games that just run pretty bad in my opinion, CRT has better motion so it's not as bad.

    Just received my RetroTink 4K last week. Before I was using Framemeisters and OSSCs for years. Well, the way RetroTink works with RGB is just fenomenal. I couldn't believe that the upscale can be SO freaking good... But the way it works with component signal is something I absolutely do not like. I don't like this "pixelized effect" in 4k resolution. I spend many hours by trying different combinations of profiles and options, still the same.... At my personal opinion, the cheapest OSSC shows better picture with PS2 (component) than a RetroTink4K and I have no idea why. On your video I also see this terrible pixel - effect.

      @@brutapode8939 It depends.Most video capture cards for the DS family, and ALL of the capture cards for the 3DS family work via USB and you need a special viewer software on your PC to display the image. Those aren't compatible with the RT4K (except if you plug your PC into the 'tink ;) ). However, there is a mod for the DS Lite which allows you to grab a composite video signal straight from the original motherboard of the DS Lite. That should absolutely work with the RT4K
