Many thanks for this documentary. Edwin Astley composed some fine music. Nice to see this fine tribute.

Dangerman, by a mile and a half.
All of Astley's work, or all I've heard, is outstanding. Dangerman is off the charts, not just High Wire but the motifs used throughout the season season 2 and 3 episodes, and then again, in the brief 2 episode, season 4. Just great stuff.
    Many thanks sunsetz777.

Thank you sunsez777,for uploading this show. Edwin Astley was a composer of genius, all those TV themes are so musical and memorable,my favourite is the original Saint theme, which is dominated my those beautiful trumpets, brilliant. I think you can easily compare him to John Barry, but because he worked mainly on television he never received the recognition he so richly deserved .

I've always been a big fan of Mr. Astley's - even when I didn't consciously think about the music, it WAS the music which so clearly defined the TV series.
When I was very young, I saw Danger Man and, this being before VCR, etc, all I had were memories, and the very idiosyncratic harpsichord music 'played' as I recalled the series.
As I got older, and my appreciation of music broadened, Mr. Astley's work was/is always one of my favourite composers.
Hearing Randall And Hopkirk (Deceased), with it's harpsichord also brings back wonderful memories.
Thank goodness for Mr. Holland - a musician who LOVES and appreciates the history of music - as well as being a fan of Mr. Astley's took part in ths loving tribute to Mr. Astley's career.
I've a question; Pete Townshend mentions 'William Wharton' (he says; 'William Wharton's exactly the same as Ted'). Could someone point me to some of Mr. Wharton's work?
As for Jools and his musicians playing High Wire at the end, I knew this version sounded familiar - it's a spot-on version of the Bob Leaper Orchestra's version (you can hear it - as well as others - at: danger-man.co.uk). As Mark Johnson said (below), and, I fully agree (including the part about playing it as well), they look like they'd a great time playing it, and of all Mr. Astely's themes, High Wire, and the series, Danger Man - have had such an impact on my psyche.
I'd like to (HIGHLY) recommend anyone who's a fan of the series, to please, check out the terrific Danger Man site (danger-man.co.uk).
Back before the internet, I thought I - and just a few others - loved the series as much as we, but, thanks TO the internet, I've since had the pleasure of seeing people who've been able to teach me - and share with others - this series, in all it's glory.
I must also highly recommend the fan-made episode, Vendetta For A Dead Friend (here at; ruclips.net/video/qAqAiSvvclw/видео.html).
This - REALLY well made episode is based on an unfilmed episode by Old Age Comes Not Alone, by series writer, Phillip Broadley.
It is (in part) a continuation, of To Our Best Friend, as you'll see several threads from it are continued.
The folks who made this, really did it out of pure love for the seres, and, even though I said it there, I must applaud them for the level of care and detail which they so lovingly made it with.

Growing up in the late '50's, '60's and 70's in the UK, all of Ted Astley's theme's immediately evoke my childhood in me. For some reason, The Saint's theme hits the hardest. Astley clearly had a massive workload, but also clearly, working for Grade in such a role was extremely lucrative, and good luck to him. The property behind Astley's widow looks like a stately home!

Randall & Hopkirk (deceased) was the definitive series - no question.

They look as if they really enjoyed banging that out! Who would not though? Only wish I could. Good version? Great stuff. The Saint theme scares the life out of me still since childhood with all that metallic reverb.
    Show off Jools Holland...

I love that part that Pete said, and I quite agree. There is something quite quintessential about certain chords played together, that just gives you that feeling of belonging. If Pete was right about it being post war then possibly Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance', may be the quintessential tune? Quite subjective.
