You know, it sure is strange what life hands you sometimes. Getting old fucking sucks!!! The older you get the more often you hear about people that are, for one reason or another, passing away such as, but not limited to, family members and very close friends that are near and dear to you, mere acquaintances, strangers in your town, famous people and even those that are all the way on the other side of the world that you’ve never even met. I just turned 45 years old last month and I never heard of anyone, that was even remotely close to me, dying until I was probably about 17 or 18 years old, except this one poor kid that I went to school with. He passed away from cancer, at the tender young age of 12 years old, when we were both in the 7th grade. Now, when I say nobody, I mean with the exception of that one kid from school. And I am talking about friends and family and/or people that I went to school with, that I either knew well and/or people that I just knew of, that also went to my school. The very first person that passed away in my family was my great aunt, my grandmother’s sister, which I had only ever met and even been around just a handful of times. Like I barely knew her so it didn’t seem that close to home, honestly. But, boy oh boy, let me tell you that once I hit 30 years old it almost seemed as if it was once or twice every couple of months that I would hear of someone dying. Then when I hit 40 years old it was like once or twice a month. And the really fucked up part of it all is that with every passing day it is only going to continue to get even more and more frequent, as well as closer to home!!! Life just really sucks sometimes. Somehow, unbeknownst and mind boggling to me simply because I couldn’t believe, I had never heard of this guy and/or any of his songs, especially “Finger on the trigger” and/or “Feet don’t touch the ground”, as those INSTANTLY became two of my favorite songs, of ALL-TIME, just as soon as I heard them and listened to them both a few times!!! Believe it or not, but I only, somewhat recently, stumbled upon this cat named Brandon Jenkins and his song “Finger on the trigger” literally just a couple years ago. I was headed home from work one day when I changed the station on the radio and low and behold, I caught just the tail end of the song, like the last 20 or 30 seconds. I heard just enough of the last few words that I was able to Google it and find out what it was. I knew that I had never heard it before but I knew damned well that I liked it… A LOT!!! The station I heard it on is a local station here in the DFW area of Texas that mostly plays local and homegrown artist and bands. I know that Stoney LaRue recorded and released Brandon’s “Feet don’t touch the ground”, as well as, he has made a pretty good name for himself since starting out with Brandon Jenkins and the other Red Dirt fellas, but I’m just still surprised that a BIG major artist hasn’t recorded the song, actually either one of the two that I listed, honestly speaking. “Feet don’t touch the ground” and “Finger on the trigger”, to me at least, really are just 2 bad ass songs with some very deep meanings and awesome lyrics!!! The lyrics are just ingenious, if I must say so myself. You know, the kind that tugs on your heart strings and they really do just hit very close to home!!! When you’re listening to either of those 2 songs it’s almost as if you’re sitting right there next to him just watching as it is all going down.
