As I am moving my work into promoting good health awareness through my art, I found this video to be right up my alley. "Health" starts in your mind and heart but then blooms through habits we keep. I feel, it's up to the individual person (in their own time) to decide wether or not those habits better or offset their progress. Health is personal and unique but I love to discuss it because each person brings a different idea to the table but are ultimately working towards being healthy in what they do.
I think body positivity and body acceptance are different things. I’m very happy with my body, but I don’t feel pretty all time of the day. Sometimes I feel really ugly, even though I generally love my body. So I don’t think you have to love your body all the time, you’re allowed to feel insecure about it sometimes. Nobody’s gonna love their body all hours of the day. Sometimes I look at my body and think" I’m too fat", sometimes I look at my body and think "god I’m cute". So I think that’s more acceptance rather then positivity.
Also I don't believe in fat shaming That's nothing more than a bully. Skinny shaving can be just as bad. I remember as a child when I was homeless I was really underweight and people used to dog me out about it all the time Because I Looked frail From not eating as much. Shaming does not work the majority of the time all it does Depresses people emotionally and they internalize it And it could make people super defensive to the point that it makes the situation much worse
Honestly America has an Obesity problem. It's a very hard pill to swallow I know but the number one killer Is cardiac issues And it doesn't just come from what you eat either it comes from Lack of physical fitness. I know it's a sensitive subject but I've gotten to the point Now that I'm like OK fuck sensitivity something's gotta be done I don't particularly like that is the number one killer In the black community as well so I encourage everyone to be physically fit and Diet conscious not make excuses for not doing so Yes You should be comfortable with your body but you should be also trying to improve Your lifestyle Physique And overall health. That's not saying you have to be your supermodel or anything like that, There's always room for improvement
Something I was WAITING to hear discussed, and never was, is the fact that baseline weight can be Totally Genetic, and even determined by what your birther eats while pregnant with you. Or that your weight genetics can be altered by long periods of famine, which a lot of fad diets simulate. So you get a poor kid, with fat parents that were Also poor kids, eating a Normal Amount of (low quality) food for the first time ever when they go to school. Their body is used to storing Any fat it gets because of the scarcity of food, and they put on weight. They go into puberty, and the weight fluctuations that come with it are exasperated. They look for fitness influencers online, they follow Literally Anything they can to bring down their Totally Predictable weight gain. Some may commit unalive before they graduate high school if they don't just die from undernourishment. Those that survive and begin healing have now gone through Two famine situations, while being the product of parents who went through an incredibly similar process. They're still poor, have no time to cook because they're working on not being poor, so buy primarily precooked meals, ready to eat foods, and fast food, because it's cheaper and less time consuming. All these fortified, fatty meals cause their famine induced genetics to say "STORE THE FAT," and it becomes Incredibly Easy to gain Too Much weight. This leads to cholesterol and BP issues, diabetes, heart disease, we all know the spiel. All of this is inherently tied to society's hatred of fat people, and that's not even TOUCHING on medical malpractice with fat patients, which I could go into Personal detail on. Rant over, enjoy your youtube
