      tobortine I have to say that I also really enjoy Rabeas' playing style.
      I think one of the key difference with Rob's is that Rabea cares more about how hard he hits the strings and varies it more which leads to a more dynamic sound. Rob kinda plays "full force" most of the time (at least in the videos) which sometimes is a bit too much i guess. sometimes less is just more ;)

  • @WhackoMacko

    The pedal sounds awesome .. reminds me of a box I had once back in the early 90s. However, for me the highlight of this video is watching Rabea play. I've been playing for 27 years, and find there's only a handful of guitarists that are truly interesting to watch .. most are what I call 'ego-axers', rather than musicians to be honest. Still, it's really cool to see what strikes me as a really sound bloke with killer skills, working his magic. I have to confess I don't know Strymon too well, but will definitely look at them a little closer now .. so cheers!

      I totally agree. Rabea is a really interesting player, he doesn't just go all out speed. He's got terrific feel across lots of styles. Strymon are second to none. Their timeline, mobius and big sky are simply superb.

  • @danardisimracing

    No, the Xotic EP Booster is trying to emulate the PREAMP of an Echoplex (and actually has little to do circuit-wise with it - it just has better publicity than the other attempts - for authenticity and better results get a Clinch EP Pre or a Badgerplex). This one doesn't aim for the preamp sound but for the COMPRESSION, SATURATION and HARMONIC DISTORTION created by the tape itself when the signal hits it under varying degrees of intensity.
    It sounds absolutely fantastic, by the way. And it has the rare advantage of producing a flange sound that you actually want to use instead of the usual flangers that most people hate - for a reason... Unfortunately though, not everyone has or can use a stereo setup on stage, and I'm not so sure it sounds equally great on mono.

    Nice pedal, but nothing really new under the sun: Boss used to make a mini rack series in the late 80's. The RDD10 featured (about) the same functions - without being stereo nor having an expression pedal input. Apart from that, great sounds and tweaking possibilities. I've put one back on my pedalboard a few months ago... \m/

  • @primeDecomposition
    @primeDecomposition 9 лет назад

    I LOVE Bea's playing, but you guys saying he slays Rob for demos need to slow your roll the fuck up.
    Rob's def the more WELL-ROUNDED eclectic player, like the bit here where Lee dialed in the (clearly) country chickin'-pickin' type tone, Bea couldn't do much with it at all, 'cause he really can't play that style, doesn't have the chops or experience for it, whereas Rob can easily pull off some quasi-chickin-pickin Danny Gatton/Albert Lee country type licks to better demonstrate one aspect of this pedal.
    Bea's pretty much just in the realm of metal and rock/bluesy feel playing (and great rock/metal lead playing), but his grooves/riffs in this realm are fucking sick no doubt, he has a natural percussive feel for the instrument that I envy haha.
    They're both GREAT players each in their own regards, with good deal of overlap when it comes to metal/hard rock.

    • @RabeaMassaad
      @RabeaMassaad 8 лет назад

      Hey man, I appreciate your comment but I was merely demoing the sounds I like on this pedal. Assumptions of the styles I and Rob can play seems a little unnecessary, we both like to play all sorts of different style, I just enjoyed playing what I thought sounded best with his piece of gear

    • @primeDecomposition
      @primeDecomposition 8 лет назад

      ***** Fair enough, didn't mean to cause offense, I based my observations on 30+ vids I've seen of you and Rob playing/jamming/demoing gear on yours and his youtube channels.
      For what it's worth I really do enjoy hearing your playing and I'm not even remotely a metal head, I guess maybe I just detect a natural kind of underlying groove to everything you play (much like Jimi!) that not many players have, the sort of thing that comes naturally and isn't easily taught.
      Now as to my original comment, maybe I can use a sort of metaphor to explain my line thinking... to wit, take Greg Koch, you've probably seen a vid or two of him demoing guitars for WIldwood Guitars. He's a fantastic player, a virtuoso's virtuoso who's got maybe the best hybrid picking technique I've ever seen; his effortless mix of virtuoso chickin-pickin, Travis-picking, jazz/funk lines/comping, and high-octane blues/rock licks are on full display in like every demo vid he does. Sick, sick player, probably my favorite to just sit back and watch play and just marvel.
      BUT, Greg just pretty much plays 'Greg' in every video, if you've seen one, you've seen 'em all in a sense; whereas a guy like Andy from the PGS demo vids - whose certainly no where near the virtuoso level of ability of a Greg Koch - tailors what (and how!) he plays in each video to the specific piece of gear he's demoing. I think there's great merit in both approaches, but the latter may be more useful to guitarists shopping for gear lol.
      And now I've forgotten my whole point so I digress lol...

    Rabea definitely has got the music in him! To everyone complaining about the price: I took a gamble on a Strymon pedal and found it some of the best $$ I have spent on guitar stuff period. The same with Wampler pedals, there is just sssoooo much more you can do with it because it was thought out so thoroughly. Sort of a 10,000 trick pony if you will. I have had at least 25 pedals that totally disappointed me, and eventually traded, so I'm not just saying this because I'm a newbie and in awe of my new pedal. Only thing; strymon may be too digital sounding for true tone purists.

    The pedal camera in the upper middle of the screen is nice... but next time could you move the camera a bit closer and tilt the pedal up a bit so we can get a better look at it!

    The tape saturation mode on this pedal reminds me a little of Klon-type pedals. I prefer the way this sounds though to be honest.

    Rabea? That's how you spell it? You British have been calling him Ra-BeeR forever. Speak English you foreigners. PS: greetings from Texas ;-)
