I have a Deco, it’s never switched off on my board. Absolutely my favourite go to pedal, for all of the reasons that the presenter goes into. This is a really great review video, fantastic showcase of a brilliant pedal. Really like this guys playing too!!
Love this unit. Can do light overdrive with sort of compression, can do boost for external OD/dist, can do something similar to mix between flanger and chorus, can do sort of indie/lo-fi vibrato, can do slapback, can do delay with 2 repeats, can do stereo wider. And looks good) Reallly love this one and Flint. Another amazing unit with so nice harmonic tremolo and spring tank reverb, couple of times uses it like 12 db clean booster to push amp. Little bit expensive though(
I couldn’t imagine not having mine on my board … it’s the most subtle tone machine of all times … I’m using a 68 super reverb and it just adds warmth and depth to that great super ripping high sound… it’s pretty much always on … I use it as a thickener so just small knob turns.. it definitely gives your sound that 70’s tone
Great summary of my favorite pedal. I like compact, simple pedal boards, and this is always on there. I use the Saturation as a solo boost, and then set the modulation in the flanger/chorus territory usually, or swap it into slapback if i want that. I think the "Wobble" knob is supposed to mimic/exaggerate the differences in how two tape decks would operate if they were playing at the same time, and how actual tape decks rarely operated "perfectly".
Great pedal. I like the saturation knob about 12:30 - 1:00 and the double tracker about 11:00, wobble about 12:00 to get a full, thick sound. Usually turn up the guitar treble with the humbuckers.
@@axetalk Live and learn! :) The content of the video was great, I've had a Deco for years and years and you guys still taught me a few new tricks! Such a great pedal.
Great video. I bought this pedal when it first came out but didn’t really understand it, so I sold it. I have just bought another one second hand (for a good price) after watching this video, as you have explained how it works so simply. Have a like and subscribe.
Waiting for 5th or 6th Deco. I’ve lost track. What keeps coming back isn’t really the tape saturation side, as much as I find it useful, but the flanger. Ohhh the flanger😎👍. And just as important the 3db boost on the modulation side. I need that boost especially if I’m going to kick on a modulation for certain passages. Just a great pedal and kudos to your great video that introduced me to a couple of tones I wasn’t aware of, especially that “Easter egg” at the end.
Jake... Hey, thanks man. I realize that this video is a couple of years old, but, I needed to find something out here that clearly demos what to expect from the Deco v1, and you nailed it here. I just bought a used one over the phone from a store up here in Canada, because I think it has all I really want from a saturation/doubler thing. I used to use an old 1984 DOD rackmount Flanger/Doubler that did pretty-much the same thing into my 2 Roland Bolt 60 amps in stereo. (My sound was actually a little bit ahead of it's time way back then I am proud to say. I have missed that DOD ever since. I know the v2 has some more cool stuff, but this used one saved me $200 (which is a great thing being that I also just bought a new BigSky AND a new Lex v2 and my bank account is starting to get a bit shallow! Lol) But, again, thanks for this. You did a perfectly thorough job demonstrating the old Deco. Exactly what I needed to see. So, I subscribed here and liked based on this demo. I will keep an eye on your channel for more as things come up. Cheers and regards from Stratford, ON., Canada!
The Eventide TimeFactor can do some of this things in TapEcho mode, that’s part of the fun of it having 2 independent delay lines. The modulation is less suited this tricks than the Deco though.
I have a Catilinbread Zero Point right now but this is a whole universe above. Just wish it had MIDI presets, more than just one favorite. Everything considered - I may invest in this thing. My only other Strymon pedal is the Volante. I love it, but it don't flange.
I’ve got the Iridium, Orbit and Zelzah pedals… they are all TOP NOTCH pedals. Strymon also has great customer service. They’re killing the game right now!✊🏾
Myself, I wish he was demo-ing this pedal with an amp with less "personality" to more clearly demonstrate the character of the saturation side of this pedal...but yeah, great playing!
nice playing. will have to sale a kidney to afford one, but I dig it. so the saturation part works basically how I use the Xotic EP boost on my board. would like to explore all those other cool features though
It would be easier to watch if you shaved properly and prepare exactly what it is you are trying to say....I still haven't got a clue what this Strymon is for.
This is by far the best review of this pedal I’ve found. Also that amp + guitar combo by itself is AMAZING and your playing is stellar. Thank you
Its really nice to see a demo where the host plays very well. Thank you!
Nice playing! That bit at 5:18 reminded me of Deerhoof! Thanks for a high quality review.

One thing for sure, that's some fine playing. Its a good tool from Stryman.
My favorite pedal I’ve ever owned. Worth every penny.
I really enjoyed this long form demo…..great playing, nice conversation….👍

Great demo - I like the Deco so much I own 2 of them. Probably my favorite pedal of all time.
Still have deco?
@@Twylightt I have the newer V2 Deco now, still love it.

Totally agree! Glad you enjoyed it. Such an incredible pedal.
The setting for the intro was amazing
Cool vid! I don't mind the close up cam, but it could definitely use some stabilization haha
its the vintage vibe haha
Great playing and styles to showcase this awesome pedal. Thanks for the vid :)
This chap is very engaging. Good job sir
Happy to hear that you enjoyed it! More to come for sure!
Pretty cool demo
.definitely shows off the subtleties of this pedal
BRAVO!

One of the greatest pedals of all time! This, and ElCap, and a Flint is really all you need
+ HX stomp
I’d swap the escape for the dig but 👍
Flint vs Blue sky?
@@boimesa8190 don’t need all that
@@realtruenorth last I checked Blue Sky didn’t have tremolo
Great video gents
WHAT A GREAT DEMO!!
I never consider a Strymon pedal for their prices..but this video changed my mind.
I sold mine and regret it every day. It’s an incredible pedal. So many tones can be achieved with this and the double tracking it does it sweet
I love this pedal and fantastic playing.
Terrific video, not a huge fan of the close up shakey cam, but I'd love to see more in-depth videos like this.
Thanks for the feedback! The intense, docu-series camera style doesn’t translate to pedal demos 😂

I love the subtle flange and the slapback delay best. Too bad I've already got those covered.
16:30 “This is where the magic really begins”
Wait,
It hadn’t already?
Great demo!
Great playing and demonstration. Mine is arriving from Sweetwater tomorrow. So I can play the two chords I know….
Glad you’re digging the demo! Hey those two chords are about to sound a lot wilder
This always stays at the end of my recording chain ,before my RNDI S ,for that creamy tape saturation, before hitting the transformers.
Little Guitars!!! Loved that

I use the deco in my fx loop only fx I use except a tuner

Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe is more like the Deco. I actually like it better than the Deco.
Nice demo! 🤘If I were to ever buy a Strymon pedal, this’ll probably be the first one.
I bought it blind from Sweetwater on Rhett Shull's recommendation, and it's freakin' awesome! Highly, highly recommended.

Nice.
when you put on the wobbly effect you wiggle your guitar at the same time, which makes it hard to tell what is causing what in the sound 🤔😅
That amp is sounding awesome! One could be fooled to believe the pedal is making all the magic here, but it's not. Also, great playing!
Myself, I wish he was demo-ing this pedal with an amp with less "personality" to more clearly demonstrate the character of the saturation side of this pedal...but yeah, great playing!
Hot damn, this guy's a good player!
Was this done using a mono output or stereo from the DECO?
Mono.. We thought about going into the stereo side a bit but thought it’d make the demo way too long. Maybe a mistake 🤷♂️
@@axetalk No I dont think so, most people use mono, I like stereo with the deco but there are some quirks in stereo that dont show up in mono
thanks
Hi there....where would you place this pedal in the chain?
Effects loop or front of the amp?
Thank you!
Most underated pedal ever?
nice playing. will have to sale a kidney to afford one, but I dig it. so the saturation part works basically how I use the Xotic EP boost on my board. would like to explore all those other cool features though
Should you run this pedal through the effects loop (because it is modulation) , or through the front of the amp (for the boost/saturation)?
uhm who is this Jake? beast!
You are missing the stereo mode. That’s where this pedal really takes off
This dude is Bob Ross but on guitar.
I just couldn't bond w the digital saturation seemed a little brittle Modulation side excellent
Are you interested in testing my pedals?
No harm in asking
Yes I am
Yes.....I will....
Please stop switching camera views so much , but great demo
Thanks Brandon! One of our first demos. Learning process for sure.
Argh. Lose the close up camera! It's unwatchable 😬
Dumbass action cam
Darn I think you told him a little late haha
It's cool and all, but run it in stereo and plug in an external tap tempo. Then it's next level!
Holy Dutch angles batman
I broke my ticker once. Ouch!!
Hate the tilted camera angles but good video otherwise
This sounds good and all but I’m just gonna go find my own sound
sounds better off. Best mod for this pedal would be to reverse the on the on/off led.
This guy looks a lot like Elwood Francis.
The player is better than the pedal , and the pedal is great .
RUclips is just the infomercial Netflix now.
The more you know 💫
Sounds better without the pedal.
is it just me or this guy has a subtly big head?
Say No To Drugs
Shut up and play Purple Rain
Your “clean” tone is so distorted mate, cant hear a god damn thing
Jesus Christ, stop with the 45-degree camera shots...It doesn't serve the video...
It would be easier to watch if you shaved properly and prepare exactly what it is you are trying to say....I still haven't got a clue what this Strymon is for.
