Slash is a guitar player that that can play rhythm guitar with no capos and play lead guitar back and forth like Hendrix did. A true guitar player. No capos going from rhythm to lead when improvised. He plays by ear. Last guitar God on earth.
Nothing like listening to Don Felder play this song, what an amazing treat to see Slash sharing his light with Felder. The solo sounds totally different than with Joe Walsh. Felder and Joe Walsh had a special chemistry.
Its amazing that Slash was able to pick up guitar so quick, he started playing in 1979 and in a band in 1985, recording labels Wow, thats inspiring, I guess its attainable if one really does practice religiously everyday and put in the time and hard work into it Ofcourse he is special, he is talented, we won't be able to achieve his level of expertise, but hey, we'll be able to possibly play his songs well
No disrespect to Slash but in my opinion Don is the best ever. I know everyone is gonna give crap, I know about Hendrix, Clapton, Stevie Ray and many more but that’s just my opinion.
Don is really enjoying himself, having a great time out there doing what he loves, playing with who he wants to play with, except the buffoons called the eagles because they, don henley won't have him, as they slide into less and less while Felder zooms on into happiness and enjoyment. Henley can't enjoy anything especially himself. Kudos to you Don Felder, you're not letting your old pals if they ever were ruin your parade. Walsh looks in pretty sad shape as of late but I do still like him a lot. He should have stuck with you.
Felder and Walsh playing it together throughout the 70s blows this out of the water. See the 1977 live version. Hell, Felder playing it with Sammy Hager a few months ago on AXS TV was better than this.
@@rejuvenator8966 Exactly. The parent comment I replied to is the most extreme critique one could make. "Only this is valid" type mentality. I followed up with the enjoy the music take, citing at least two other far better moments. A third would be the Hell Freezes Over acoustic version.
I was at a GameStop Managers conference. Slash was in Guitar Hero 2 a game as a "boss" in the game. (Think it was guitar hero 2) I was older than the other managers. He came out on stage after a huge build up. Everyone stood up and I couldn't see. I without thought jumped up on my chair and screamed "F**Kin A SLASH!" over and over. He did his thing quickly and I turned around at the table. All the other 14 managers at my table were just looking at me with shock that I did that at a work event. I said to them "Sorry, you had to live it I guess". True story, I was 39 years old everyone else were in their 20's. Good video! The great part is the end the guy yelling "I love you"!
Happy that Don finally gets to sing. Was it as good as the Eagles? No. But that isn't the point. It was still damn good, and it was cool that Slash was there. Let's be honest, nobody is ever going to replace Joe on that song, it's not humanly possible.
Epic performance by the duo...Felder was the real Eagles musicians. Glenn was a stupid egoist soul that had Felder part ways! And by the way Joe Satriani is on the drums there LOL
The comments here comparing these guys are ridiculous. Both of these guys are great players, but neither are virtuoso level. And that's perfectly okay. It doesn't make them any less great. Felder plays very well, with a lot of emotion and good phrasing. Nothing he does is tremendously complicated, nor super fast, nor super technical. He's still awesome. Slash is a more aggressive player and there are ways in which he is more evolved and technically skilled than Felder. Slash can play things Felder never could. That's not making Slash into a Malmsteen, nor is it saying Felder is inferior. It's reality. And I've got no dog in the fight.
Felder was a terrible vocalist. Henly, Walsh, Button and Fry were the true vocalists and instrumentalists that formed the core of the Eagles. There’s no disputing that.
Nothing annoys me more when the camera man doesnt capture the soloist. Dons ripping away and youre looking at Slash....

It's called changing the tuning on your strings everybody does. Also G&R always had their instruments tuned a half step down.

Felder authored the chord progression and the solo, the lyrics by Henley and Frey. Walsh and Felder usually did guitar duels which we see in this song
