- Pig Birthing what do you have to do? It is not always a easy thing helping a farrowing pig give birth. If you want your piglets to survive then you have to be present for it. When a pig is birthing you can not be squeamish stick some petroleum jelly on your arm and go elbow deep. Especially when you know you will have a lot of piglets that are coming from the sow or gilt. When the pig, sow, or gilt is birthing you will have to do what is needed to make sure your litter will have its best chance at surviving. Take care and may God Bless you and your family and we will see you next time.

We farrowed a lot 20-25 years ago, now we just raise feeder pigs, and i couldn't believe how many memories this brought back for me
Glad to hear that I could help you remember so painstaking nights lol 😂
Can I beat my drum? ruclips.net/user/MickyBellRoberts. if you approve? Thank you very much.
Micky Bell-Roberts yes you may
It may sound weird, but it’s always been a bucket list item of mine to work on a farm for a time, specifically to raise piggies. I watch these videos wishing that I could be y’all’s apprentice.
Your video helped us sucessfully deliver 10 healthy piglets after losing 2 in a previous farrowing, cannot thank you enough!!!
Very glad to hear that
My family has a couple of Berkshire sows, and this is going to be my first time delivering piglets. I'm kinda nervous so I'm doing my research, but I've delivered goat kids. I'm fifteen and I am the "animal midwife" on my farm lol😂. I'm so excited for piglets thanks for the video👍 keep it up!!
We are glad to see that it helped. We will put out more stuff it’s just been a crazy year.
Definitively can say that the quality of your content is improved! Enjoying some of your latest videos and commenting to give you a boost.
Thank you
With 13 piglets I would say that was a pretty successful birthing. And it looks like they're all doing well. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah he was a little happy with it.
@@ChurchsFamilyFarmCFF 👍
It was very interesting to see. You are a great breeder, giving the right help at birth. And the biggest congratulations with the growth of the farm. Also congratulations on getting 500 subscribers. :)
Best wishes from Lithuania.
Thank you just saw that we got there we will be doing the Gift Card giveaway Next Friday
Good educational vid, used to love the hogs on the farm i grow up on, thanks
My Berkshire is about to farrow...so excited...what is the reason for not letting her release on her own? I was never planning on sticking arms I side my girls...don't know about all that...
Sometimes they need some help especially if she has a lot of piglets to deliver. Sometimes the piglets are a bit large or stuck. Better chance of survival for all involved. I would also note that if you don’t have a pen designed for low mobility of movement to not to attempt to assist with her delivery.
interesting info thanks for sharing !
Old Redding Farm thank you
A few questions, and I don't know anything about farrowing, 1. Was the sow in distress otherwise why assist? Why do your sow not clean her young? We did have pigs when I was a kid and they were certainly not contained like this and managed their own young? Good video and not meaning to be critical only wondering. Thank you.
Brenda Freestone the reason he contains the sow is to insurer The best possible survival rate for the piglets this I was not because of distress. The reason to assist was because it was such a large litter. We were just assist the sow when needed she had a total of 17 piglets in her.
Brenda Freestone the crate is also called a farrowing crate is intentionally designed for the purpose of farrowing pigs so that the mother sow will not lay on one of the piglets by accident the mother sow does have access to her piglets but only has a limited room to lay down to help insure the safety of the piglets.
I love pigs! I only have mini pigs, potbelly and Kunekune. But I love all pigs, so much personality
oh my, you really great and strong for doing that, I enjoyed watching those little piggy piggies.
Witchy Witching thank you glad to see you liked the piglets 🐖
I raise hogs for a "natural" pork company so we can't use farrowing crates. I have an old farrowing house from around the 1930's-40s with 6x6' pens, bedded, no slats. When i initially started raising them I was farrowing in the winter with no furnace, only heat lamps. You had to go out every 90 minutes around the clock to check if there was a new litter. If there was, you would get behind the sow, and every time she had one I would pinch off the umbilical, hand dry/clean it off, and put it right under the heat lamp. After it fully dried, I would transfer it to the udder. Very effective, but I'm glad I have a furnace now! :)
So in this farrowing box car it get real humid in it and actually will get some condensation built up and we will have to kick on the fan to release it out.
@@ChurchsFamilyFarmCFF Definitely. As soon as it warms up I open the track doors on each side and get some airflow in there.
That sounds like a good plan
So many babies!! Good job helping mama out
mamaofthewild1s thank you
Nice info we don’t have pigs but I really love the info. We have been thinking about maybe raising one for meet. Thank you for sharing

Does usuliy do a good job on there own. Wow few under formed piggy's some are super tiny never seen them shoot out quite like that wow.
Yeah they did plop right out. It was more to insure a good delivery because these were for the fair. Thank you for watching God bless.
You are a Jack of All Trades.
WoW. pretty neat. They are so cute when they are that small.
yeah but they get their squickers quick lol
No shoulder-length glove? We always used the disposable gloves. Saw a couple of still-born mummified pigs in there. It is unfortunately common, yes.
Yes we tend not to use them as we only have a few and no cross contamination from other farms. But we have been kicking around the idea of grabbing some. Just haven’t seen a huge need for them. Thank you for watching may God bless you and your family.
@@ChurchsFamilyFarmCFF No problem. I love to see responsible handling of animals. We Humans are meant to be stewards of this world and it gladdens my heart to see people being responsible. Might I recommend looking up Joseph Carter (A. K. A. The Mink Man). He has done some absolutely groundbreaking work with using mink to catch rats.
I will look that up thank you for the info.
@@ChurchsFamilyFarmCFF My pleasure. Part of why we love him is because he studied the minks' natural habits and traits and based the training off of their instincts. He even managed to get them to work with dogs and is in the process of training an Argus Monitor Lizard to do the same. Using what the good Lord provided to achieve goals which line up with what nature already provided is awe inspiring and more folks need to do the same. Bless you and your family. Goodnight.
That was pretty fun to watch..interesting too.
The Drifter glade you enjoyed it the idea is to show people what it takes to breed pigs. Gunna try to get some castration video out also
Very neat to see. Thanks for sharing
Sherri's Crochet Corner thank you

Glad to see that it will be helpful
Cool video,keep it up, put a like!!!!👍👍👍😉🤘
Thank you
Great video 👍
Mountain View Turning thank you
That was a first for me for sure. 13 babys lol.. 😃
Big like from friend 🤝👍🏻🌹
Love the baby pigs.
First time to see that, I have had a few in the past , but raised for slaughter.
How do you handle the piglet umbilical cords?
Tie in a knot close to the piglet it will fall off quickly.
But not against the piglet just so they don’t step on it. That would not be good. Cut the extra off it you would like to keep it out of the way.
@@ChurchsFamilyFarmCFF thank you so much! Currently waiting for her to start having them!
Have fun she will probably start in the middle of the night. Right after you go to sleep lol. That is usually how it goes.
I love hogs 💕 they make awesome pets, guard dogs And baby back ribs🌹
They sure are beneficial all around. They do a good job on preparation for a garden also.
Famyli
No sleeve glove... uhhhh disgusting
It’s fine wash your hands put some lube on it and then give your hands a good scrubbing and it doesn’t smell
@@ChurchsFamilyFarmCFF that's not sanitary for the sow. You're likely gonna get discharge later on and probably a higher rate of return to heats as well as mummies
It has always been the way we have done it. With that being said we will keep that in mind for future deliveries.
