I lost almost 100 pounds in 6 months due to be very sick & unable to keep anything down. My hair was falling out, my nails were constantly breaking, & my teeth felt wobbly in my jaw to the point I was scared some would fall out. My boss commented on how good my butt looked now, not to me but to a coworker standing beside me, while we were all on the salesfloor. My boss was a woman & she knew I had been sick. I'm happy your boss genuinely cares about you, but you do see how your boss asked you in private, and it wasn't fueled by a comment you made in public that had nothing to do with your health . For most people, these comments have nothing to do with the person's well-being and more about them not liking that your body change wasn't what they would want. There is a strong difference and it's very hard to mix them up.

That’s literally the bare minimum amount of food people should be eating every meal… and your family sounds very toxic to be discussing your healthy eating habits amongst each other as if something is wrong with that. It seems that the women in your family may be conditioned to believe that they have to restrict their diet a lot for the sake of looking skinny rather than prioritize mental and physical health. You should speak to a counselor or a professional outside of your family who can help offer you a more healthy mindset to look up to.

They just patronizingly say "don't eat fast food" which is dumb because my mom doesn't eat fast food and a lot of fat people don't either). Well it turned out that she had cysts in her ankles that were eating away at her bones, and she had to go get surgery that, since it was already too late + other shitty moves from the doctors who refused to give her physiotherapy, she's yet to recover from, years later.

But I have been gaining weight from it for almost a decade. I wasn't an underweight person, I was on the heavier side of normal. I'm now overweight and even with dieting and constant exercise, I'm always gaining. It's my medication. I was made to wait til I was 19 to make decisions about my body and how to tackle this problem. It's because of my struggles I'm heavy, not because I'm being unhealthy. I tried fasting as a kid because I was told I looked pregnant. It should not matter what body type you have, you don't judge someone until it truly becomes a problem. Then you ask them, you talk to them, you try to help them and figure out what's going on. And don't get me wrong, having that much extra weight isn't "healthy" in and of itself, but my body wasn't dying. It was my choice to begin the weight loss for my own personal reasons. Literally feel so seen by this video. I lost 80 lbs due to health issues ( I was overweight before due to other health issues) and everyone just kept commenting on it. Saying “Good job”, “that must make you happy” and shit like that. My own GP said “well, you must be proud” to my face knowing I was sick. Diet culture can be really toxic sometimes

This!! I lost a ton of weight, borderline starving myself and having binging episodes. At my lowest I was like 150 and everyone around me was so proud of me, meanwhile I felt like shit all the time. Recently I’ve let myself eat more food, and when I’m hungry, I don’t count carbs, I just make a meal that has some energy in it (not a handful of peanuts). I have gained about 20 pounds but I’m stable at 170 and it’s the weight my body is comfortable at. I feel happier and don’t get headaches and feel sick all the time. ❤

I’m at my heaviest I’ve ever been right now and have never been a diet person. People used to comment on how fit i looked, but the reality was i was over worked, under paid and yes, under fed. I went to bed so hungry most nights and just thought that’s what was normal.
For the last few years I’ve finally had enough food, a consistent sleep schedule and a healthier work environment.
I think i also gained a few pounds because my body wants to protect me from endometriosis and fibroids. I’m really glad I found this channel because intuitive eating has been what I’ve learned towards. I don’t want to keep gaining weight because I feel good where I am now, but am dealt by afraid of diet culture.

I grew up relatively thin, and I ate whatever I wanted to. I was around 130 pounds and 5’6” my junior year of college. I developed debilitating anxiety so bad I had no appetite. I ended up losing 15 pounds and was able to see clearly defined ribs poking out. My sister’s friend commented that I looked good. I thought, “thanks, I’m miserable.”
Fast foreword 4 years, I had gained back the weight lost in college. I was married and had a one year old daughter. I had been able to lose the pregnancy weight as well, but I PPD and began to take anti-depressants, which can cause weight gain to manage it. I was also breastfeeding, which made me ravenously hungry constantly. I ended up reaching 152 pounds, which isn’t a lot, but it made me feel very self conscious where I hadn’t been before.
I went to visit my sisters and that same friend who had commented on my weight when I was stick thin was there.
She didn’t say anything, but I saw her looking me up and down, and I know she was thinking that I had gained a lot of weight.
It made me feel even more self-conscious and hate my body. I ended up losing a lot of the weight, but the way she looked at me made me feel so ugly and hideous it ruined my confidence for quite a while.

I’ve gained some weight in the last 2-3 years, and while I’m pretty confident and it usually doesn’t bother me, I am more aware of what other people might think/see. It shouldn’t matter, but sometimes it does. I hope you’re happy, and enjoying your little one, and can show her that while we may sometimes not be confident, it’s okay to love our bodies! I used to have horrible GI and stomach issues. There were days it was too painful to eat anything, even water. So i naturally lost weight. But then i got better! And i could eat regularly meaning... I gained weight. Gaining weight meant i was healthier. But I couldn't enjoy it at first because it's been ingrained in our society "weight gain = bad". I freaked and tried so hard to lose weight and couldn't figure out why I couldn't go back to the weight i was before. It was because 135 WAS my matinence weight, it was what i was supposed to weigh to begin with, not barely hanging onto 115 and below. My squishy belly and thighs, and strong legs were all signs I recovered from my medical issues. Now I celebrate and turn any body hate towards myself into spite from toxic beauty standards, the that spite turns into self love. Its recycling

  • @mkay05

I'm 5'5, my thinnest was 140, but I'm very broad in my chest, shoulders, and hips. Looking at old pictures, I looked sick, and I felt it at the time. Everyone said how good I looked, what a good job I did losing weight, etc. I had lost 80 pounds in 2 months because I was anorexic, there were times I didn't eat for 3 days just because. I was so unhealthy. Now I've gained quite a bit of weight because I've damaged my relationship with food. I definitely need to lose some weigh for my health, but what is "over weight/obese" according to BMI charts is actually a healthy weight for me (170-180). A healthy weight isn't just how thin you are. Your healthiest weight is when you are giving your body the right fuel and exercise in a safe amount, not when you don't eat and constantly work out. I can eat pretty crappy at times, but my eating isn't horrific anymore and I'm pretty active now. I would argue that I'm just as healthy as when I was struggling with my ED as I am rn at 220 😅

Medication, change in environment, changes in eating habits, changes in exercise routines, hormone fluctuations, and illnesses, can ALL contribute to weight loss or weight gain, and that is barely scratching the surface of the contributors to weight fluctuation.

I agree we shouldn’t comment on other people’s bodies even if someone looks skinny or bigger. But to say it doesn’t impact your health if you gain weight is not accurate. It does impact you health in a negative way unless you were under weight before. Both things can be true at the same time.

So we got pregnant two months before our wedding. Didn’t tell my mom immediately to allow for a wedding shower surprise. I gained a little weight from suddenly eating more and not working hour 2 hours a day, 6 days a week (oh the fatigue). My mother starts telling me how I need to watch out or my dress won’t fit (we planned to be pregnant before the wedding so that was handled) and trying to keep me from eating?? So many comments. So much anxiety around my already changing body.
Now that she knows she keeps telling me how she weighed 98lbs the entire time she was pregnant with my older sister. 😮

Thank you so much for this video... I had an ED for 14 years, but i was only underweight for a short time and i just wanned to have my ED and did feel comfortable being underweight, i was still really skinny... I had to recover and i gained all the weight back, i started my ED hella overweight... i lost half of the weight again, not Intentionally, i was depressed and had phisical issues, i lost my appetite, but it was never about weight loss.. My appetite did come back but people have told me that ive gained weight, i have kidney issues so my whole body was blooded, i wasnt able to take my ring off in the morning and had to see those people after i finally removed my ring.. I was told "you were doing so good, i thought you would lose the rest of the weight too and not start turning into the pig that you were haha" and these people know about my ED and the fact that the weightloss wasnt intentional, that i was in recovery... Im so lost, i don't want to die, but im so fucking stressed out from being observed...

for people who are trying to build muscle, they strive to be heavier. muscle can look pretty fatty and it is much denser than fat so gaining more weight is the best in that scenario :)
in other words, dont feel bad about gaining weight
