It’s a little more 94-95 Layne with his annunciation here but musically face lift blueprint mixed with a little guitar sound of dirt in the saturation/texture
This kicks ass!! I miss the way A.I.C could harmonize their vocals. Lane was amazing.. From a musical perspective, I have always had great respect for Lady Gaga.. Her ability to blend different styles of music has been impressive. There aren't many who can collaborate with Tony Bennett and Metallica. 🤘👿🤘
@@stevewelsh__ Too many people think she's just "superficial pop star" and underestimate her because of it. But she's actually a really brilliant musician and vocalist, regardless of if you like her music or not. It's not really my cup of tea, but I have tons of respect for her as an artist.
@@TheStepmonkeyI admit I miss that vibe sometimes. I enjoy the newer stuff but sometimes I’d like to hear a little more bluesy swing too, even with Layne not present.
It's definitely Facelift with a splash of glam metal... Diamond Lie or Alice N' Chains (vs Alice in Chains). Facelift songs like "Put You Down", and "Real Thing" have a similar sound and feel to this one. Great job!
Next month better be some sort of equal-quality pun with Soundgarden, because damn is your Cornell impression good. Or Audioslave. You even have several options for the pun!
I agree, i appreciate that william doesnt try to mimic layne but overall his vocals go unnoticed next to jerrys which is really the only reason the band is able to carry forward with a touch of their original sound still intact
With all due respect, a Layne soundalike would have been the wrong move. William adds his own sound to the band, rather than attempting the impossible task of filling the bottomless chasm left by Layne's passing.
Facelift era Chains always had this great bounce and swing from that mix of blues and thrash that Jerry brings to the table. This definitely captures the same feeling. Are you going to do any in the style of say The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here era? I'd like modern AiC to get some love too!
Your song work is amazing! This is such a strange way to hear it but it sounds so good. Only thing I might do is slow it down just a little bit more to really get those heavy Alice in chains riffs
This was perfect!! Could feel the resemblance to “real thing” and I “know something” have you considered making “the thing that should not be? - Metallica of course (it would fit perfectly with the Alice In Chains’ self titled style)
Very very nice indeed! 🤘I'm betting "you could be mine" (GnR), "Malibu" (Hole) or "change (in the house of flies)" by deftones would be a banger as well! :D
Yes dude! Awesome as usual. I would tell you to do nothing but AiC stuff because they are one of my favorite bands and you do them sooo well, but you usually can do no wrong so keep it up man. Looking forward to the other three songs!
I do have to say tho I think you missed an opportunity there by not trying the Ga Ga Ooh La La thing in creepy vocal harmonices, maybe in unison with a wah guitar kind of like the intro to Man in the Box. You turned it into a guitar riff and that was also an excellent choice, but you ended up hiding a bit of the most iconic part of the song. Anyway
Look. Just found this vid. As AIC superfan I am literally fucking impressed 👍🏻. I wish Lane never died and imagine the discography they would have by now. I'm tearing up writing this. I'm totally down with the unintentional tribute, it rocks and hurts at the same time. I wish people these days could hear what a real rock band sounds like. Or maybe I'm just too nostalgic! Keep it up bro. Count me subscribed! 🤘🏻
HOLY SHIT!!! AMAZING!!! I'm havin a roller coaster of emotions over this one - you totally brought Layne back to life in this cover. I don't know much of Lady Gaga's work, but I did have to learn this song for a party and can appreciate the composition quite a bit. I very much prefer YOUR version! \m/
Oh my staaaars 🙌🏼 I cannot believe this exists and that I found it. Two of my favorite things!! Lifelong AIC fan plus total Gaga fan.. with this song one of my top karaoke jams. Immediate subscriber ✅
I think "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss would work perfectly in the style of Alice in Chains (or, dare I say, Alison Chainsley); already gloomy enough lyrically but lacks that heavy, haunting Seattle sound. 🤘
This is crazy good man. Your voice is unbelievable. My biggest respect, get so much joy from listening to these. Keep on doing awesome shit, you deserve much more followers
Cheers! Technically no, but the Jerry model has identical pickups and is based off my model which is the 2021 prophecy. I would love to get a JC edition for the collection!
I wonder how many times Steve had to listen to the lady gag gag original in order to make this cover LOL I think we might need to crowd fund to pay for this therapy sessions.
What other tracks are you hoping to hear ‘chains-ified’ this month??
😎🏄♂️⛓️
Something by Ghost would be interesting
Paranoid by Sabbath?
I Dreamed I Died by Devil Driver would be SICK. Alternatively, Free Bird Jerry-Style would be legendary 😂
Drive - Incubus
Waiting For the Sun - The Doors
Thank you so much for bringing the incredible groovy, heavy 90's Alice sound back to life!!! You have REALLY mastered the sound of Layne's vocals!
Thanks heaps! You are very welcome. This one was loads of fun to make with all that bounce!
90's AIC for sure, you nailed it.
Layne and Jerry’s harmonies are pretty key to the AIC sound for sure too
Groovy, heavy metal is the PERFECT description of Alice In Chains! 🤘 This was awesome! High school me is rocking out right now.
I honestly think Jerry would be proud. You nail the spirit of the music he writes and you can convincingly sing Layne and Jerry’s parts.
I bet I could sneak this into a Facelift playlist and most people wouldn't notice. This sounds seriously cool!!
Legit
It’s a little more 94-95 Layne with his annunciation here but musically face lift blueprint mixed with a little guitar sound of dirt in the saturation/texture
Not a chance 😂. But it’s a good cover 😎🤘🏻
@@amostlyreasonableguyyesss, exactly what I thought
It’s still too boppy for Alice In Chains
This could've 100% been a Facelift era track. It sounds great good job.
Sounds like this could be a track on Facelift. Sounds like “Real Thing”/ “I Know Something” 🤘🏻🔥
These tracks were very inspirational to me for this one! I wanted to step away from 4/4 with a nice swing beat.
Yeah, Real Thing was the song that came to mind for me too
Exactly!!!
Came here to say the same thing!

Thx! Gaga is an absolute weapon!!! ⚡️🤘🏻
No need to use the past tense dude.

Dude... WHAT A BANGER!! It's like if Real Thing was recorded in Dirt era. Loved it. Great cover and great AIC style!! Cheers from Argentina :)!
Argentinian rockin over here too 🤘
Yea, it has that Real thing style

Put You Down doesn't get enough love.
I bet if Gaga ended up hearing this she would LOVE it. She is such a rocker herself!
I would actually cry
@ladygaga
How in the fk can there be only 70k of us who know this exists??? Share share share! Dude… you fkn rock. Period.
Appreciate the love!! 🤘🏻
The intro had such a "Real Thing" vibe to it, this was awesome
Fucking perfection and nothing but. No notes. No quibbles. Everything about it is self evidently 100% ideal. Bravo
The thing that always gets me is the harmonized vocals. It sounds just like Layne & Jerry.
Can’t believe this channel isn’t bigger than what it is. Great quality of music.
That was eerie. I turned my screen off and it truly felt like early ‘90s Alice In Chains. This is how you do a cover. Incredible.
Tell alice to put DuVall on the backburner for now and bring this guy on. I need to hear this dude covering the 3 post Layne albums with these vocals.
Was just thinking of how to word this very comment you posted 😅
I don't think Jerry would want a Layne clone to step in. He's stated as much in interviews.
@@soonerproud agree
That's why they chose duvall. He sounds different, so they aren't copying layne
Impressive as always. Your Alice in Chains version of I Want It That Way is the best yet.
While this was definitely AiC doing Lady Gaga, it also ended up having a weird Muse-like vibe to it. Very cool.
1:04 So Layne.
Oh snap! I clicked on this assuming it was from Moonic Productions!
So glad to see another cover from you, Steve!!
Sounds like Real Thing from Facelift, nice work guy!

Haha maybe Cornell-vember!?

Thanks as always Lily! You’re a legend ⚡️🤘🏻
@@stevewelsh__ 😄 No, YOU'RE the legend my friend! Cheers!
No offense to William Duvall, but AIC missed out on the right front man. I would love to see a collaboration between you and Jerry.

The harmonized vocals are what really sells it, spot on AIC vibe.

You got Layne's vocals all down to the pin-point. HELL YEAH, DUDE!
This deserves way more likes, amazing rendition. Genuinely sounds like something AIC could have made.
This is ridiculously incredible!
This is so fuckin class, viewership isn't near what it should be for how talented this dude is
your ability to nail laynes different cadences is mind blowing
Dude this is amazing, that riff is nuts
"If Alice in Chains wrote 'You Oughta Know'" should be next!

I thought that too, but the " would she go down on you in a theater " line.

Your ability to recreate the AIC vibes (sound, guitar, vocals, harmonies) is the best I've heard. And it's not even close.
Sounds so much like Real Thing. Great interpretation!
Haha, this sounds like it could be a b-side from Facelift! Awesome work man \m/
This is bringing two things together that shouldn't even be remotely associated and making it work too well
Very reminiscent of pre-Facelift era! Love it!
I’m catching Facelift-era vibes for sure. Like Put You Down mixed with Real Thing. Very cool remake.
Love it! Sounds like an even heavier version of "Real Thing"!
Have you heard the demo?

Are you trying to give me a heart attack?? I LOVE AiC and I LOVE Gaga! 💗💗
Lovely funky early sounding AIC! Smashed it! 👍🏻
I love how you captured the Facelift sound here.
I'd love to hear some of your own original AiC pieces from the Stayley era, if you have any.

He even captured the twisted essence of Jerry's riffs and Layne's vocals
