I was listening to Tinderbox just the other day actually - the one they did with the Clock DVA guitarist and recorded at Hansa by the Wall studios. I remember Peepshow coming out and I think that Peek-a-Boo was one of the first records I ever bought by myself. I bought 7inch records in the years previous but they were purchased for or bought with my much older sister. But with Siouxsie it was personal - her music was something I wanted to explore by myself. Yes I had an early crush on her (I was aged 15 in the late 80’s) but the music was amazing too. She still looks and sounds great At nearly 70!

OMG. This is a masterpiece, which of their albums were not. I would slightly disagree and argue that fear of the unknown is also more of dance track inspired by the rave/techno of that time period (the remix of that video certainly is...). My intro to the banshees was peek a boo when it hit top 40 radio in the US so Peep Show is also up there (my number #2 actually - hyaena is my #1) - never heard anything so unique and strange on pop radio up to that period. Tht single was my intro to alternative/college radio - Rapture & their debut albums were the two that grew on me over time. The 1st lollapalooza is when i finally got to see the banshees live & were the sole reason i went to that show (still have the t shirt with image of this cover album). 100% agree with the b sides - even more amazing than their studio albums. Everything you covered on this vid i was like yes yes and yes! I also went through my house/techno phase which i never grew out of. 😉. Got to get up is my fav - the vocals and message behind this track ❣. Was super 😁 to see this in my feed! Edit! Just remembered, Kiss them for me samples a track from Chapterhouse. Can't recall which track but gonna have to research. Sorry for the paragraph long response. ;)

Thanks so much for this ! And you are so right about hearing more detail with the analog source material. I always go for the originals if possible. Reissues can be excellent if the source is good, preferably tape. Looks like the 2018 reissues of the Siouxsie titles were remastered from a 1/2 copy tape and half speed mastered at Abby Road and per Discogs get generally good reviews. Hard to say. For example, the Ministry vinyl reissues, all analog, are outstanding and as good if not better than my originals.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I try to avoid getting too deep into the analog vs digital debate because it’s kinda dumb as it all comes down to preference. But I do think because I grew up in the 80s I’m predisposed to the sound records deliver. Digital music sounds just fine, but it’s just different.

Superstition seemed to surreptitiously lean into more accessible sound for the time, but by no means a bad album! The bright pink background and our heroine dressed in yellow was a contrast with the album’s darker content for a Banshee’s newcomer.
I agree that its better tracks was overshadowed by the singles and the non-singles are just as strong if not better. I had the cassette single of Kiss Them for Me and I remember loving the B-side “Return”, wishing it was on the album.
You are 100 % correct about the best way to hear the music - the sad truth is that the whole reissue campaign for this band has been poorly executed by Universal. Both original vinyl and CD versions are superior in quality vs. the reissues that were chocked full of errors.
Now the real challenge remains for a Banshee’s fan - how does one feel about Rapture?

Dang, I couldn’t agree more as I’ve always felt “Kiss Them for Me” and “Fear of the Unknown” were out of place. I must admit the two songs felt dated even back then. The album picks up for me beginning at “Drifter,” which stays in my regular rotation. It’s a song that took SATB to another level. Siouxsie’s voice is haunting, beautiful, and shows such range. “Little Sister” tugs my heartstrings, man. And, yes, of all the three singles released, “Shadowtime” is the best.

@@ezilirod I agree about Fear, also out of place. A good song, but doesn’t quite fit. How are ya? Hope you’re well.
