I had no idea where this "squeaking noise" was coming from in my Model Y and I checked my rear headrest after watching this video....guess what, it was the freaking headrest! Thank you for your step-by-step help on this, you gained a subscriber!
Thank you so much!!!! My husband and I have been going crazy trying to figure it out. It’s been annoying the heck out of us. You are a life saver and my ears thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you so much. Had this exact problem the other day driving down Malibu every time I hit a bump. It was driving me crazy, did the same thing and shook everything in the backseat like a madman at the parking lot of a Walgreens til I finally shook the headrest and felt like sherlock. Appreciate it man!
Chris, you are absolutely correct about the source of the problem. Many thanks!!! There are 2 ways to solve this, use lube or slightly bend the arm rest prongs together. By bending the prongs slightly together, it secures the headrest and no lube is required.
Works for the model S as well. You have to also press the release button on the other post. Instead of silicone I squeezed the posts together to crate a bit more friction and I’ll see this week if it worked. If not, silicone here I come. Thank you!!
YOU ARE AWESOME! I've been having the same issues w my older Equinox & would've NEVER even thought about something like this. Trying to muscle thru attempting to pull them out now makes me feel like nothing short of a complete idiot! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Now I have to figure out how to get those same rear seats to lie completely flat - which youve now inspired me to look somewhere outside the box for the solution that actually works! 2800 mi drive w 5 animals (w 2 giant breed dogs) not something to exactly look forward to doing....
Beautiful! Another video to add to my Tesla video shop manual collection. How about one on how to remove rear seat? Or an overview of Model Y electrical system (Main battery Voltage and terminal location. How the 12V battery interacts with main battery, etc)
I had the same problem on my model y and used silicone spray. But the squeak came back after a month. Switched to white lithium grease spray. Going on 9 months now and no more squeak
Thanks Chris, the ones in my MY aren‘t squeeking but its good to know anyway. Doesn‘t it allow the seats to fold further down when removed? Thanks again and best wishes, KarlA
I just took delivery of a model Y performance a few weeks ago and I have a super annoying rattling sound omitting from the rear cabin hatchback area, I took it in for service and we went on a test drive and since I couldn't duplicate the noise I essentially was turned away, this really sucks for a car that cost me $80k after taxes, any advice
My model y has the same squeaky metal sound from headrest. It seems a common problem and shame on Tesla. The driver chair is also the worst I have sit on because of the headrest bending forward and still figure to pull it out.

Late to the scene, but your advice is still useful. Thanks. Squeak resolved - 2023 MY RWD
Had to do this again recently and watched my video haha
Thanks for the macro camera view Chris! You are my hero!

Lolll cool!
Omg that squeaking has been driving me nuts and this solved it. Thank you 🙏!
Thanks for this. Mine doesn’t squeak yet but I can’t run the seats folded because it hits my frontseat when driving.
Ah another good reason to remove them
Thanks a lot needed this to install my seatbelt holder
Oh nice. Didn’t think they would come out. Kid seats, man. Thanks!

Sounds intense! Haha
Omg thank you. I was getting to mad I couldn’t figure it out lol😅
Thanks. Totally needed the help removing the headrest.
Woohoo

Thank you so much!!!! I was soooo lost!!!! 🙌🏻😭
I’m getting some sticky back felt on a roll to put down between the seats to stop them rubbing off each other.
Dude, I'd give this video 5 thumbs up if it were possible.
I know right? I forgot and watched my own video because it came back
Subbed, thanks! I was having trouble installing my sons headrest
Thank you! Such a weird thing…I thought mine were forever stuck. Didn’t know about the secret tiny hole
Thanks Chris,

Great detective work Chris. btw- Silicone spray is the best! Helps with padlocks, vinyl window/door tracks, door hinge pin squeaking.
Yes!
Ditto, I discovered it around snorkeling (preserves rubber) and now use it everywhere.
