Beastie Boys are hip hop royalty! In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame too! They don't make bad music, start from their first album and enjoy the ride! Check out Paul Revere, Shake Your Rump, Pass the Mic, Intergalactic, High Plains Drifter
Paul's Boutique was the first gangster rap album. The Beastie Boys were the first to openly admit to committing crimes in their rhymes. Easy E even said that album inspired him to do what he ended up doing in hip hop. Crazy considering they started out as a hardcore punk band. The Beastie Boys are ridiculously talented. RIP MCA!!!!!
Umm.. Paul's Boutique was NOT a gangster rap album, the Beastie Boys not only never commited any crimes and if they did, they were NOT the 1st to describe commiting crimes on album.
Wow, the idea that you have never heard of the Beasties makes me feel hella old. Every song they wrote was made with real instruments that they played and sampled. They were originally a punk rock band. They were one of the pioneers of hip hop. RIP MCA.
Yes!!! They started out as a punk band as teenagers with a female singer (unfortunately I forget her name) the Rick Rubin got a hold of them in his dorm and changed their direction. They went into the DJ stuff which is awesome but came back around to their sound playing their instruments again, with badass drops! Beastie's are one of a kind. Anyone who listens to their Anthology, full work from beginning to their last album. Badass R.I.P Adam, who was the founder of Tibetan Free, concert.

I know it isn't one of his popular tracks but I always liked LL's "Hip Hop" from mr.smith (again not his most hyped or popular album by any means..), for giving props to those who came before.
Eminem is a huge fan of the Beastie Boys... he actually made the cover of his 'Kamikaze' album resemble the cover of Beastie Boys' 1986 album 'Licence to ill'. They started from NYC as a punk rock band in the early 80's, but got into the hip hop scene by 1985. Beastie Boys were goofy, humorous and defined their own rap game... major respect for decades of making hip hop music.
The beastie boys are great Eminem is good kid rock sucks and I guess if we are talking about white rappers you need to check out the greatest white rapper today , right now Prof any of his songs are fire!

True legends of hip hop. First time I heard “Paul Revere” in 5th grade, it blow my mind. Then they reinvented themselves when Sabotage. Again mind blown
Maybe cuz I was in art school in NYC in the 1980's but I can't believe a person would not ever have heard of the Beasties. Like, wtf?? They were pioneers. Also my friend dated one of them and Adam "MCA" (vocals, bass) died of cancer. Hell, they toured with Madonna in '85. And, I'm so old I remember blasting Cooky Puss in my apartment as a young teenager lol- and that was 1983.
I thought the same thing, but he's a young guy, and we got old somehow 😜 I love how it's a new discovery for the younger crowd, they get to experience it all over again!
Beastie Boys mixed rap and rock in the 80's, but they were a solid hip hop group. 3 Jewish kids from NYC who did their own style...🔥 The group was Adam 'Ad rock' Horovitz (the red shirt), Mike 'Mike D' Diamond (the Knicks shirt) & the late 'MCA' Adam Yauch (green shirt)
This is around 1990, if i remember correctly. I was in 7th grade. I was in 2nd grade when "license to ill" came out and went to city school in pittsburgh and we would battle run dmc and beastie boys lyrics at recess. "Ill communication was in '93. Saw them live on that tour. Sick. I've been living on them since '85. Great energy and love to the boys. RIP MCA!
They came together in 1981. They have so much to offer the listener of fine creations. Open that rabbit hole & enjoy. Their names are: Adam Yauch (RIP), Mike D and Ad Rock. They often feature others on their songs and albums. They are beyond incredible. Keep listening & enjoying!
Their second album Paul's boutique is not only amazing but has some of the most complex and interesting sampling in any hip hop album I have every heard
Actually technically wrong. The Beasties started as a hardcore punk band, they had a 4th member, a female drummer. Only after hearing the first hip hop artists coming Downtown from The Bronx, they started to also rap/play hip hop. Let's say they were very very early adopters, but super successful groups like Run DMA were already legends when the Beasties started. Their first live shows would be split in two parts, a hardcore punk one, and a hip hop one. Later in their careers, when already established as one of the very best best hip hop groups, they also released an instrumental album and a punk rock one. Just becayuse they could.
If you wanna write a wiki about it yeah it's a little more involved then my one sentence. But facts are facts and the Beasties, even before they were Beasties, were involved in hip hop that predated Run. Listen to Ad Rock's recent interview with Sway (recent as in the last 10 years). He tells some fascinating stories.
Beastie Boys are freaking awesome! They also have an amazing instrumental album called "The In Sound From Way Out". You should definitely check it out. 💜
I am astonished that you are/were unaware of them....they are true OGs of hip hop, right up there with RUN DMC, BIG DADDY KANE , KRS 1, GRANDMASTER FLASH and ECT. I really LOVED watching your reaction to the song/video. It's awesome to discover good music.
Paul’s boutique is one of the greatest most creative hip hop albums of all time. It literally could never be made again with all the sample clearances needed today.
The Beastie Boys rabbit hole is one of the best rabbit holes to go down. Just pick a random Beasties song, and...dare I say...Ch-Check it out. Mostly hip hop. Their first single was back in the 80's..."Fight For Your Right (To Party). Not hip hop... but the rest of the album is (Licensed to Ill) Pure hip hop greatness from that album until their last. R.I.P. MCA
Fight For Your Right was actually their 9th single! Starting in 1983: Cooky Puss, Rock Hard, She's On It, Slow And Low, Hold it Now Hit It, The New Style, Paul Revere, Brass Monkey all came out first. *The More You Know*
Not only are they one of the greatest rap groups of all time, they are one of the greatest groups of all time period. With a huge influence on the music industry as a whole.
I nearly cried when I read “who are they” in the title. They came up with Run DMC and were a huge contribution to Def Jam’s catalog. I was going to recommend some artists and songs, but if you didn’t know The Beastie Boys, I really wouldn’t know where to begin. Maybe check out “Hip Hop Evolution” on Netflix? I’m not trying to diss, but what have you listened to? These songs were MAJOR hits when they came out… this is not even their more obscure stuff like “Egg Man” or their Biz Markie collaborations. Again, I’m not trying to be mean, I think you seem like a cool dude and I love music so much that it hurts to see so much cool shit get forgotten, but check out some “Top [number] Hits of The [decade not starting with a 2 or 1]s. Fuck man, you said exactly what I wanted to but I want a different direction because I didn't want to sound mean not that you did but that was my concern for what I would pen. I've seen the Beastie Boys four times and the first time I saw them I uncontrollably broke into tears of joy, totally unexpected to have that kind of visceral reaction and unforgettable as well! And, btw, nice freaking Spotify list! I think you've got all the prerequisites in there although I'm not sure I saw KRS-One.
As everybody else has said, the Beastie Boys are one of the OG hip-hop groups. They were part of the hip-hop scene when the hip-hop scene only existed in New York. They’re also one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time. The Beasties were a big part of the success of LL Cool J and Public Enemy, Pick any rapper, rap crew, or rap group, trace what they do back, and there’s a 99% chance that the Beasties were an influence somewhere along the line.

@@216Numbskull Good call. It's probably safe to assume here then, that the Beasties were influenced by that joint too, because Paul Revere came out a year later and flows a lot like What Does It Mean, and NWA also covered Paul Revere, albeit with dirtier lyrics, live.
@@littledavemerriman Nah, Beastie Boys had already been in hip-hop by then. They had the 2nd record (single) released by Def Jam in 84' w/ "Rock Hard", & were supporting Madonna on her tour in 85', when Rick Rubin was still the Beasties DJ. The Beasties were influenced by Treacherous Three, Crash Crew, Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five, that I know of.
They were originally in the hardcore punk scene but rick rubin thought their song cookie puss needed some oomph so they started rapping on that track. next thing u know they drop kate shellenbach and become a rap trio instead of a four piece punk band
So this song came out in 1992, on the "Check Your Head" album. It's directed by Nathanial Hörnblowér, who is really Adam Yauch, or MCA, one of the guys in the band. Three MCs and One DJ is one of the best videos I've ever seen, it's recorded live, in one take, on four stationary cameras with just them and, well, their DJ. On their video collection DVD, you can switch to watch any camera you want, or just watch the original video.
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 "This is an outrage, because Spike is the director who has just? I'm from Switzerland. Let me just tell everyone that and since I was a small boy I had dreamed that Spike would win this. And now that this has happened, I want to tell everyone this is a farce, that I had all the ideas for Star Wars and everything." - Nathanial Hörnblowér interrupting Michael Stipe who was making an acceptance speech after the "Sabotage" video had lost best director honors to "Everybody Hurts" by REM. Sadly, his outburst did little to sway MTV because "Sabotage" went on to be beaten repeatedly during the 1994 MTV Video Awards by Aerosmith's "Cryin'."
The Beastie Boys are: 1. Ad-Rock 2. Mike D 3. MCA (RIP) They were one of the first artists on Def Jam records. They founded LL cool J. They are a fusion of rock and rap/hip hop. I think you’d really dig them. They’re legends. They have literally been around since the 80’s.
I love your enthusiasm listening to the boys for the first time, and it's awesome. But ....how the hell is there someone alive on the planet that even remotely likes hip hop and has never heard of the Beastie boys? Mind-blowing.
Exactly. This screams fake reaction. "i'Ve nEveR hEArd oF tHE bEAsTie BoyS". C'mon man. Saying you've never heard them is understandable but never heard OF them??
They weren't the third hop hop group ever, but I know what you mean. Certainly among the first few rap groups to go Platinum and one of the first few groups on Def Jam.
So first thing when it comes to The Beastie Boys, if there’s an official music video for the song, go with the music video. Because as far as their music videos go, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Some videos to check out from them. “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” “Sabotage” “Intergalactic” “Fight For Your Right To Party” These are just a few of their biggest hits to get you started down an amazing road. The Beastie Boys are legends!
Right after Right For Your Right To Party, you gotta check out Right For Your Right Revisited . . . Takes place right after the finish of Right For Your Right, where the trio, played by Seth Rogan, Elijah Wood, and a surprise celeb, meet their future selves (Jack Black, two other surprise celebs) who challenge the younger trio to a danceoff. . . Totally worth a double shot watch
I'm astonished any hip-hop fan no matter how young has never heard of the Beastie Boys. They're like The Beatles of hip-hop -- they weren't the first but they were early in the game, one of the most influential and transformative, and they were a major force in bringing the genre into the mainstream. As for how long they've been around, they formed around 1982 as a punk band, the roots of which you can still hear in a number of their later songs. They transitioned to hip-hop around 1985 or so, and their first full-length album dropped in late 1986.
One of the greatest groups that ever played. Full Stop. If ever you get the opportunity, I HIGHLY recommend checking out 'Awesome I F****** Shot That!' (they may have removed the F-bomb from the title). Truly one of the greatest live concert films ever. Showcases their punk roots, hip hop glory and Jazzy excellence. Multi-talented individuals everyone. R.I.P. MCA
They actually play every instrument. They do more than hip hop lyrics. They have instrumental jams that are amazing. They’ve been around since the 80s. I grew up listening to them as a kid. In my top 10 for sure. Today’s rap is trash compared to old school.

The Beastie Boys are part of the vanguard that created and established rap/hip hop in the 1980s. They always have something to contribute. They’re a true institution in music.
Oh these guys are legends and icons for sure. I don't think anyone who calls themselves an old school hip hop fan, doesn't know them. Adam died in 2012, from cancer I believe.

You should react to Intergalactic and The Move by Beastie boys. They're both bangers as is Root Down, Limerick File, Sure Shot 3 MC's and 1 DJ, Shake your Rump and the original version of Body Movin along with the Fatboy Slim version. There's more but the ones I named are definitely ones should listen to with your headphones turned up.
I'm happy you found the Beastie Boys. They've been around forever and have tons of great songs. They're pioneers of Hip Hop!! I'll suggest "Pass the Mic"... also "Paul Revere", it has one of the best beats ever created.
You would Love Rage Against the Machine 😎 (I humbly suggest BULLS ON PARADE) keep up the good work man I love your personality and you have great taste in music ❤️
These guys were one of the founding acts of Def Jam Recordings. Beasties, Run DMC, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and a bunch of other hip hop acts. Def Jam even released Slayer's (one of the Big 4 thrash metal bands) first album? First 2 albums? Anyway, think about the Beastie Boys as the Larry Bird of hip hop. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll HoF by LL Cool J and Chuck D.
Slayer released their third and fourth albums on Def Jam, then they moved over to Rick Rubin’s Def American label after Rick and Russel Simmons split the label over creative differences. Their first two albums that only hardcore Slayer fans even listen to, were on Metal Blade. I’m a huge Slayer fan and the first two are probably the ones I listen to the least. I can at least understand why you would think it was their first two though. Decent memory there Chris.
the " youve never heard of..." has been covered in comments.. so ill say this better late than never.. you have HUGE hip hop gift to unwrap, you didnt even know anyone left for you.
I love how the Beastie Boys started out as a punk band in the early 80’s and then in the mid 80’s started incorporating hip hop and became one of the forefathers of rap and awesome MCs and love the live performances with them playing their own instruments and spitting at the same time
"Ain't no tellin' how long they been out?!?" They've been out of New York since the mid 1980s, with their first album License to Ill. First cassette tape I ever bought with my allowance money for doing chores around the house! If you like old-school hip-hop, you desperately need to hear "3 MCs and 1 DJ" and "Paul Revere" and "Brass Monkey"! It's so good as an old-school fan, to see someone new just discover their style of music and get into it!
Man, I feel old ASF. I'm 41. I don't understand how you listen to hip hop and don't know who TF the Beasties are? Im gonna go take a nap cause you got me upset...and I'm old.
I'm sorry, but there is no way you have not heard of the beastie boys. I'm not buying it. I don't listen to a lot of classic rock , but I've heard of the Eagles. I don't listen to a lot of big band music, but I've heard of Sinatra. I know you aren't living under a rock!
The Beastie Boys are from the 80's and are Hip hop royalty. Check out Fight For Your Right to Party. It was an ANTHEM back in 1986 for young people everywhere.
I know that I'm a little late to the comments here, but I'll try to give you a little Beastie Boys history. They started out in a Punk Rock band and can play their own instruments. Their first album came out in 1986 and I saw them in concert in 1987. Their first big hit was "Fight for You Right". They went on to continue making hip hop music for many years, but did slip some rock in here and there to continue with their roots. They were produced by Rick Rubin and on the Def Jam label. In April of 2012, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I was lucky enough to attend the concert/induction ceremony. They discovered LL Cool J and he gave the induction speech. Since MCA (Adam Yauch) was dealing with Cancer, the Beastie Boys did not perform and Travie McCoy, Black Thought and Kid Rock did the performance part of the induction. The following month, MCA lost his battle with Cancer. The Beastie Boys are one of my favorite music artists because their music was always fun, never heavy or malicious.
Their career spanned over three decades. Their style changed a great deal from one album to the next. Sabotage is a great song. "Hey Ladies" is also great, but completely different. Pretty much anything else anyone recommends here is most likely going to be a banger.
Every one has covered most of the points I wanted to make. They are not pretenders or a parody group. They are hip hop pioneers from the 80s on. The real deal. My current favorite is Three MCs and One DJ.
So good watching you light up to that.. one of the big things in the 90s and they were awesome live .. ..another classic BEASTYBOYS song is LOOKING DOWN THE BARELL OF A GUN .....wicked dope boom bap
When I seen them live and I seen all the white people moshing and stage diving to Hip Hop, I knew this art form was the new Rock and Roll, and Hip Hop would live forever.
What? 1st time with The Beastie Boys?? Well this is a great track to start with. I love so many of their songs. I can definitely go for a whole night of Beastie Boys. These dudes are lengends in my book - They kept it real thru out their whole career.
Bill Maher asked Chuck D what it was like taking the Beastie Boys, white guys, on a tour with Public Enemy. Chuck D- First of all we opened for them. They took us on tour with them and it was amazing. They brought us a whole new audience and crowds. They helped us be heard, not the other way around.
Check out who has influenced them! They showed up somewhat early in the hip/hop rap scene and had much respect for those originals who paved the way for hip hop and rap! They truly are legendary. They did take some heat being white boyz and all, trying to rap. But they did earn much respect within that genre! ✌🏼 Great reaction bruh!! 💜
The Beastie boys were before almost every rapper out there, even being sampled by N.W.A. They and only a couple others made hip hop mainstream and put it in every household in America. The only other music like this at the time on the radio was Run DMC and LL cool J. Or one hit wonders. So heat for being white was next to non existent. It was a different time then when democrat politicians and media were not pushing the race narrative for votes. History destroys cultural appropriation and makes those that embrace it just look ignorant.
1992 is the year this gem was released, the good old days of MTV. This one's a classic, and the Beastie Boys are Hip Hop legends and regarded as such by the biggest names, you name them and they love, respect and are probably inspired by them, particularly LL Cool J, who often credits them for making his successful career possible.

Paul Revere Rhymin & Stealin The New Style High Plains Drifter Intergalactic 3 MCs and 1 DJ Ch-Check it out Slow and Low Get it Together (with Q-Tip) Sure Shot Pass the Mic Alive Tons more but this is a good start brother!
I can think of no more unlikely story in all of modern music than that of three white kids from a punk band becoming the sonic battaring ram that broke the door down so that hip hop could find its way to the ears of the masses.
Dude, these guys are the foundation of Hip-hop. They started rapping and rocking back in 1985. Yes start from the beginning. License To ILL , there first album.
Old school beats and flow is right; they hit the scene in 1983, were touring with Madonna (believe it or not) in 1985, and hit the big time in 1986 with their album "License to Ill".
The Beastie Boys have been around for over 30 years!!! It was the late 1980's and I was in my late 20's, at The Cadillac in Orange County, CA with my husband, Steve. The place was packed and the DJ was tossing merch to the most enthusiastic among us. Steve made enough noise that the DJ frisbee'd an actual LP to him, which we put on the turntable as soon as we got home that night. "What the hell is a Brass Monkey?!?" we wondered as we heard the Beastie Boys for the first time. I turn 60 next year and still love the hell out of these guys!!
I'm always surprised and a little sad when somebody hasn't even _heard_ of Beastie Boys.

This IS Hip Hop. They are royalty in true Hip Hop form. They’re some of the true originators/representation of Hip Hop. Stylin and Profilin
Beastie Boys mixed rap and rock in the 80's, but they were a solid hip hop group. 3 Jewish kids from NYC who did their own style...🔥
The group was Adam 'Ad rock' Horovitz (the red shirt), Mike 'Mike D' Diamond (the Knicks shirt) & the late 'MCA' Adam Yauch (green shirt)

Beasties have been in hip hop since the very beginning of it. Just stick to the suggestions everyone is giving. All are solid.
True!
You Gotta Fight For Your Right and No Sleep Till Brooklyn
Yeah not quite

“Sounds like a little hip hop?” They are pioneers of a their own style in a genre where other rappers were barely differential.
Eazy-E pretty much modeled his style after them and they were sampled on his solo records, NWA and Ice Cube records.
@@littledavemerriman Nah, Eazy-E got his style & flow off the OG creator of Gangsta Rap! "Schoolly D" check out & listen to the joint PSK, What Does It Mean? by "Schoolly D" Then come tell me different? PSK is Eazy-E 1st joint "Boyz-n-the-Hood"
I didn’t know Adam had a different name… Are you sure about his last name? When I looked it up, it said his birth name was “Adam Nathaniel Yauch.”
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 "This is an outrage, because Spike is the director who has just? I'm from Switzerland. Let me just tell everyone that and since I was a small boy I had dreamed that Spike would win this. And now that this has happened, I want to tell everyone this is a farce, that I had all the ideas for Star Wars and everything."
- Nathanial Hörnblowér interrupting Michael Stipe who was making an acceptance speech after the "Sabotage" video had lost best director honors to "Everybody Hurts" by REM.
Sadly, his outburst did little to sway MTV because "Sabotage" went on to be beaten repeatedly during the 1994 MTV Video Awards by Aerosmith's "Cryin'."

If ever you get the opportunity, I HIGHLY recommend checking out 'Awesome I F****** Shot That!' (they may have removed the F-bomb from the title). Truly one of the greatest live concert films ever.
"The Larry Bird of hip-hop"

Slayer released their third and fourth albums on Def Jam, then they moved over to Rick Rubin’s Def American label after Rick and Russel Simmons split the label over creative differences. Their first two albums that only hardcore Slayer fans even listen to, were on Metal Blade. I’m a huge Slayer fan and the first two are probably the ones I listen to the least. I can at least understand why you would think it was their first two though. Decent memory there Chris.
