It's just that most people seem to have forgotten about them because the OP members were gone for 7 years, so now they probably just weren't looking at Fairy Tail because they no longer care. *Most* people, the ones who usually only care about high guild placements or names/titles and all that. The Mavis we are seeing is only a shadow or an avatar of the woman who lived before, I'm guessing Mavis actually died of old age considering she constructed an entire guild by herself and developed three ultra spells and sealed away some deep dark secret about the guild that we still don't what that secret is.
Fairy Tail has a problem with not killing off minor characters, or killing anyone really - like that guy who bubbled away in lava, next chapter "He's still breathing". Just look at Mavis, she's already dead and they dont kill her off. Fairy Tail, where not even dead people are dead.
