He really plays well here. As we all know there are those few shows he played where he was just not in good shape. A nice reminder of how skilled he was as a musician and artist. I love his arrangements.
i love him... i don't like saying i love an artist cause i dont know how they are as a person... hearing his voice (elliott's voiceS) make me feel love for him.
Love love love this song... it's cool at the beginning you hear the anxiety of the girls voice when he's not being filmed and she says can you PLEASE record it... I can imagine myself doing this. It's that "this guys is awesome don't miss a moment of it!" Wish I had seen him in real life....
Yup. Saw him pre fame. It was like watching someone perform real magic. And his output is so crazy, such a vast library of spectacular songs. He was a really funny/cool guy too, that first time I saw him was at an all ages club in an old firehouse during an afternoon, maybe 20 people in rapt attention. Afterwards he and Sam from Quasi (they opened) played basketball with everyone, Elliott was surprisingly good but he cheated ALOT, which at the time was extra hilarious for some reason. I miss that guy so much.
Back then it seemed like good music was around every corner but those people had no idea what gold they were witnessing, which pans even truer today, as I doubt we'll see it again.
REVERIES. Yeah I agree with you. My wording wasn’t correct when I drunkenly wrote this 4 years ago. What I meant is that I like it when beautiful melodies tell you sad things. It’s bittersweet.
Smith allegedly didn't even get into heroin and crack until the Figure 8 tour. He used addiction as a theme in a lot of his songs but that doesn't really mean they are always specifically about drugs. This song, on the other hand, to me at least, is about losing someone and not being able to forget about them. Who couldn't identify with something as simple that?
@Liquidskeleton sometimes I just sit here and stare in aww at how quickly his hands move and I'm "WHY CAN'T I EVER DO THAT!? Oh wait thats right you're Elliott Smith, you were a musical fucking genius." Seriously my favorite artist of ALL times.
Think its sorta ironic how people get angry when people are talking or yelling because we all have the capacity to not miss something until the moment we lose it. Of course if you had the chance to be a this concert and you knew the outcome of this amazing mans life you might have been compelled to...
Man, when I hear a song by Drake or Beyonce, I feel like I don't really know who they are, cause their songs have like 20 songwriters- meanwhile, Elliott Smith be making these songs by himself, and I feel like I can actually relate to an artist, and be interested in their songs and thoughts. Much love to Elliott, I hope.he is resting easy, you gave all your heart ❤️
have you not heard "king's crossing?" "true love?" the entire "self titled" album? sure elliott didn't get hooked to H until 01, well after this song. but H was always a metaphor in his music. "the same sermon all the time", "we could do what we wanted," "leave me alone, you oughta be proud," "both of you can just fade to black," "then just leave it alone"...theme in all these songs is for E to be left alone with his 'love', which sadly became too real. luckily he beat it before he died
i'm almost glad he's not around to play live concerts...they're just full of people on their phones calling friends or trying to take pics/video constantly. you're there to enjoy the music.
Yeah ive been trying, theres some guy on here with a cover from like '12, xxxxxjamesxxxx, that was superb and does a good of showing how he played if you can follow along maybe on a slower speed. Check it out
Or, you can keep the letters the same, and have the song be whatever the fuck you want it to be about. It's ambiguous, and that's why we can spin it any way.
This is who I'd bring back if I could.
He probably wouldn’t like that very much.
:(
Ghtry Iytrf ya never know! I think a lot of people who committed suicide would love another chance if given the choice
same brother, same
@@paulpogues I think so too.
he plays guitar so cleanly
This song makes everything fall into place, even if for only 3 minutes. Elliott, thank you for lending me those 3 minutes.
Aye, aye.
He really plays well here. As we all know there are those few shows he played where he was just not in good shape. A nice reminder of how skilled he was as a musician and artist. I love his arrangements.
That guitar is absolutely breathtaking. This was a killer show.
Elliott's voice almost makes me cry when he sings the part "just because you came across it and lo-oh-oh-ost it... Everything reminds me of her"
Same
I miss my mommy today. this song is superb!!
hey man this is late but just know i got love for you stranger, take care !
I wish I could give you a hug
when he sings the outer space lyrics you can hear the lead guitar part in your head, such a great part.
Absolutely- I hear it too when I listen to it live.
That song is soooooooooooo well written.
Je donnerais tout ce que j'ai pour être à la place des gens qui le regardent. Elliott always in my heart
he sounds even more beautiful live
He was just brutally good. So effortlessly cool. I've been listening to him for maybe 7 years now daily and he still blows my mind

Best ever. No one can compare.
How lucky we all were to have been there when this great man and his music were alive and well...Well... you know what I mean

His guitar playing is SO clean and so on point here!! (Not that it ever isnt- but he makes zero mistakes, etc). He really was in his flow here.
Look at this... i cant stop thinking this person is now dead... just absolutely does not exist anymore... truly tragic...
Back then it seemed like good music was around every corner but those people had no idea what gold they were witnessing, which pans even truer today, as I doubt we'll see it again.
i love this man so much.
the spin of the earth impaled a silhouette of the sun on the steeple
Thank god this got recorded and thank thank god it’s a steady video
Same man 🙏 i get to enjoy with 14 years later
This is so pure and beautiful, just like sweet Elliott.
This song makes me so depressed in the right way.
Brian Richard Sloss How is there a right way to be depressed? Depression is not something that should ever be considered ‘right’ my friend
REVERIES. Yeah I agree with you. My wording wasn’t correct when I drunkenly wrote this 4 years ago. What I meant is that I like it when beautiful melodies tell you sad things. It’s bittersweet.
Brian Richard Sloss Ah, yes. I agree actually :)
Every now and then you find a piece of music/art/poem that just sums it right up and comforts the soul in such a strange way.. thank you Elliot

Somehow I really doubt that
@@nicotinepoisoningthink of this song in the context of your losing your mom. Expand your mind and see art as the medium it is..
Such a good song
This is the 1st song my wife and I danced to as a married couple at our wedding reception.

jaw dropping
Guy in the plaid shirt if you are out there I’d like to see that photograph
wow what an opener
Wow I felt like I was there when she looked down then up at Elliott with camera
@gmanlikelylad That person talking is the person who's filming this. feel grateful for those ignorant people.
Yes.
@gmanlikelylad It's at a record store. Of course people are going to be talking.
does anyone know what kind of guitar he played?
everything reminds me of Cherie Lopez
