Some photographs from Keith Berry's site on Pbase. Really nostalgic pictures from 60's and 70's plus some recent ones of mine. Worth taking a look at www.pbase.com/b...

(thanks phil47)
Really shows how much more aesthetic things looked then - even simple things like cars, street markings (lack of), shop-fronts, clothes etc. God, the council really ripped the heart out of Birmingham in the 1950s & 60s. Also, the places look much more English than they do now.
Some great pictures thanks.
Came back to central Brum a year ago with a friend from France, to show her around. I was gob-smacked. I felt like I had wondered into a foreign country. I feel like, after all the hardships of previous generations who sweated to build this city and, we have just handed the place to other people. Very disturbing.
A lot of the older shots were from Phyllis Nicklin, who did a fantastic job in the 60's, sadly no longer with us.
Thank you for your comment, you may be correct, but I only go by the information supplied with the picture, which may be from Pbase Keith Berry or Nicklin.
I am shocked to hear Keith Berry had died. He was very helpful and polite to me when I asked if I could show his work on You Tube,I am sure he made comments on some of my vid's.
He even gave me advice or panoramic pictures.
I agree with comment relating to 1:47. I identify the van as a Ford 'Anglia' derivative made from 1962 to 66.
Anyone who's up for another get together. Meet at the Sack of Potatoes on the 4th June at 7:30. The more the merrier. I hope the venue suits. Not too difficult to get to. Most of you Duddy people must have tried one of your fist sessions there.
You are very welcome.
It seems that way, also Birmingham Council does not seem to care about history and seems intent on making us all feel strangers in our own city, Immigration is a positive thing and very important for growth etc, but 25 years worth within the space of a few years is very noticable and too much to take in all at once.
@jaandil7
Very Welcome indeed...
I don't think the Aston Cross photo at 1:47 is 1968.
The Ford Escort van and the Erdington bound bus look distinctly 1970's.
I read that Keith Berry died earlier this year in jan 2009. I am very sad to learn this. I hope his family know how important his photo's are.
Twelve years ago I made a short film about Birmingham. I would like to dedicate it to all my friends from the UK. :)
