I'm not familiar with the engine in the Focus, but on other 2.0L Ecoboost engines there is a hose that goes from the valve cover to the turbo inlet hose. I assume it is the same way in this car. If so what is done to prevent oil vapors from entering in to the turbo inlet, intercooler and on to the intake from the valve cover?

I don't get why Ford doesn't have a recirculation back into the oil pan.. Just replaced the pcv with the new one Ford finally warrantied. By far the word connector is the first one he removed. Pain to remove. The rest was a breeze
Okay so I have a question. What's the difference between a catch can on the intake snorkel vs the bottom of the manifold? I've seen both, just haven't really looked into it. I'm looking to install one on my new focus at but I want to find one that doesn't involve cutting factory lines. It's a lease that I'll be buying out but I need to be able to remove it for service.
The 2 places you could put a catch can would be the connection from the inlet pipe to the valve cover (which is what I think you mean when you intake snorkle) and from the intake manifold to the crankcase. The first one is the point at which pcv vents under boost at wot. This same place has as tiny inflow when the car is at idle and cruising. There really isn't much benefit for putting a occ here. There's going to be a system of baffles in the valve cover to stop any excess oil that might travel along with venting pressures.Anything that could make it past those baffles is really nominal. The risk of creating a restriction here is greater than the potential benefit of an occ. If you create a restriction you may cause a pcv imbalance and that's really critical on a car that's got a 2 way pcv system. The 2nd point (down at the im to crankcase area) is the optimal point to put an occ. Again there is a baffle system in the pcv plate connected to the crankcase where Bill gently pulled the hard black line off the blue pcv valve. The pressures here are much greater because you are right at the area of the crank, plus all the oil is down here. It's also accepted in the engineering community to recycle any excess oil that makes it's way past those baffles as a matter of environmentally friendliness :) But the reality is that the oil that makes it's way into your intake manifold will eventually cook on to your intake valves. This buildup will cause performance loss over years. Ford will then happily sell you a cleaning service :) TLDR - More oil comes out of the crankcase-baffle-pcv valve area down on the bottom of the engine and it's got a direct path to the combustion chamber. Just as a tip - There's several kits out the for the ST and I'm sure there will be many for the RS. Lots of ST kits try to mount the occ up high and route tubing to it. Do yourself a favor and get a kit that puts the can down low. You will want to empty it when you change your oil and having to work a cup or something into the area in the top of the engine bay to empty your can is silly. occ cans are not bling - function over form....
Gotcha. Yeah I know about the carbon buildup and that's exactly what I'm trying to minimize. May have the can installed by a shop then. Unfortunately don't have the jacks or necessary tools to get under it. Appreciate all of the info
I honestly just wish manufactures would adopt something similar to the Toyota D4S system that uses both direct and port Injection. Saves a lot of hassle.
If I plan on buying the car at the end I just want to make sure I'm Doing every possible preventative maintenance that I can do to ensure longevity. I refuse to pay ford to clean an engine that they purposely built this way haha.
No doubt it's required, especially on a direct injection turbo engine. Not really liking the complex install or the seemingly labour intensive "drain system". Although the drain hose is outside the splash guard it appears the drain valve is not accessible unless the guard is removed. I suppose some additional hose and the valve can locate it outside the guard but it's still under the car and out of reach. Why not make a kit that makes it accessible from under the hood. I don't think gravity has anything to do with capturing the oil and the catch can being up higher in the car most likely would still work. The install, I guess, can't be made simpler since the factory connections make it complex. Great install video!!
$214 dollars for a few feet of rubber hose, canister and cheap looking worm gear hose clamps? Really? I would have a hard time parting with my hard earned money for parts that look like something bought at a swap meet. I would expect more from a reputable company. Maybe pre bent hard lines with AN fittings as an example? Is it just me?
Methanol injections systems spray a mist of methanol in the intake to lower your intake air temperature. This will allow you to get more aggressive with the tune and make more power.
Even though the catchcan works to me it looks way too cheap with all those worm clamps, for 285, id rather save more for a water metanol kit and have water clean my valves

Why does the UPR catch can have a check valve and this one doesn't?? Is it not that important??

Can you explain what a catch can is/does?
I made a few small adjustments after the video was shot and you can easy reach the drain with the pan in place.
But don't you just drain it at the same time you change the oil?
