    EDIT - I've been reliably informed that the Keirin is now just 6 laps, with the Derny pulling off after 3 laps. I must have used an old rulebook and/or footage.
    This is an extremely hard sport! I had tryouts at Manchester Velodrome when they were recruiting talent.
    There were some people I could never keep up with, no matter what I tried.
    I think at that elite level - you either have it or you don't.

    The elimination race is certainly my favorite along with team pursuit and time trail.

      I tend to find the longer events quite boring personally. But the pursuit events and the sprints are pretty cool.

    At 68 I'm getting ready to ride the track again. I haven't been on since my late 20's. This video made it all clear again and pumped up my confidence knowing I have the immediate information not to make a fool of myself. You want to increase your bike handling, leg speed, cardio, plus so much more... ride the track. It will make you a much better road rider.

    I got free tickets to the velodrome at the Pan Am Games and I was so confused even after an entire day watching. By far the most puzzling event is the sprint where 2 guys go slow, not in a straight line, almost stop and then randomly start racing when they feel like it

      Ninh Ly Yes, while I emjoy all type of cycling, Track Cycling has always been the one that was the most exciting along with Downhill MTB and BMX Racing. I enjoy the longer events imo. Events such as Team Pursuit, Keirin, Scratch, Elemination and Points races are all fun to watch! I enjoy other shorter events too but I like the business of a packed Velodrome!

    Very good explanations. I listened to it twice, because I think he forgot to mention two characteristics of the bikes.
    #1 - no brakes. Because there should never be any obstacles on the track other than riders who have fallen, there is no need for brakes . You probably would not be able to react fast enough to use brakes.
    #2 - only one gear, and it’s usually a high gear. And, the crank does not coast. If the rear wheel is moving so is the crank.

    Maybe I missed it, but isn't there another rule associated with the sprinter's line that, once a person enters that lane and starts a sprint to the line, the person cannot come back out. So, while the person behind must come around, the person in the lane can't move up to block. This leads to the drama of many of the races: Does the person that turns on the power in the lane have the gas to stay ahead, or will the leader just tow the second rider close to the line where the follower comes around after essentially being led out by the first rider. Excellent video, by the way!

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  4 года назад

      I believe there is that rule unless he's been overtaken and then they can move back out to try and re-overtake. But whether they have the endurance to do that is a different question entirely. Thanks bro.

    Could you do the rules of Stock Car racing. I know you mentioned the rules changing a lot but you could mention that the reason for rule changes is because of new cars and new drivers with different styles of racing. It would be amazing to watch you explain Stock Car Racing

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  6 лет назад +1

      Admittedly I've been debating it - as a lot more people are asking for that.
      The rules changes regarding segmented races seems radical, and I'm convinced that they're about to scrap it altogether.
      I'm going to see what happens before committing to a video, the last thing I want is to make a video that's obsolete 6 months later. Just like my videos on Judo and Taekwondo.

      It's pretty simple!!! If you want to run 7.99 seconds, you spend enough $$ for a 7.99 car . Don't build a 7.30 car .if 7.99 gets boring or slow to you, build a 6.99 car. So if you are in a 7.99 class you try to run 7.99 .if your competitors run 7.99 also , NOW the race is won on the starting line!!! You get a better start, run 7.99 if you can and the jump at the start will make you the winner!!! Of course if you run 7.80 you will lose unless your opponent runs 7.79 😀😀 hope that helps!!

    Also in the rule book. On certain events if you crash, get back on your bike and rejoin the pack wich by than has done a few laps while you were on the ground you'll be considered as being in the same lap as all the other racers.

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  6 лет назад

      Ninh Ly Well Relays and hurdles as well as blocks and starts might take up a lot more time. At worse a video including with track&field (the sports are so closely connected it would make sense) would make a very good video. I’d get it if you don’t do that though, and today’s video was great (as usual)
