    There is no hidden meaning in Sausage Party. The movie beats you over the head with it the whole way through, nothing subtle about it.

    • @theofficialmascot
      @theofficialmascot 6 лет назад +32

      There is, it’s the meaning within what they were intending to say, and the meaning of what they ACTUALLY said, which was, if you kill God and disobey his rules, it will lead to hedonism and eventually to the death of man. Aka the society we have at play today.

    • @km1dash6
      @km1dash6 5 лет назад +26

      There's a heavy degree of sexism, racism, and mixed metaphors here. If the great beyond represents humanity's conception of heaven, the the trash bin represents hell, then it really makes us wonder if it's better to believe in heaven even if it doesn't exist. Food can't fight and win every time. And eventually food expires anyway. Death is inevitable. So if believing something good happens after death helps you lead better, happier lives, is that a bad thing?
      But the movie says "yes that's bad" but shows "no it's good."
      They clearly came up with this movie while high, so the contradictions are understandable, but the whole point of the movie has a contradictory message .

      +robert jencks
      Because the movies lack any sense of real nuance and are just constantly trying to punch you in the face with a meaning that not everyone agrees with.
      In the case of this movie it presupposes that all people agree religion is bs and in the purge it assumes all people find humans to be inherently violent and government to be inherently evil.
      Both movies are made with far left ideology in a world where opinions are quickly shifting to both the center and right and therefore the meaning is lost on a majority of people who simply do not agree with the presupposed outcome.
      Because of this, both movies are inherently flawed in their execution, both in how their messages are presented to the audience and within the messages themselves. Instead of using tact to carefully persuade people that your message is correct it assumes from the first scene of each movie that you already agree with the message and simply moves from there constantly reaffirming what the movie assumes you already believe rather than making efforts to sway you to its side.

      it doesn't matter what we really believe, all it matters is that were lucky to be alive on this rock. we can enjoy life by getting along or we kill each other out of existence. who said life isn't easy, (I'm not an atheist though :P) so maybe people should shut up about it cause we are all going to die in the end. We have no purpose, so we make our own purpose. (i don't like the movie though, its really horrible to be honest.)

    Is this meant to be an actual atheist message, or a satire making fun of atheism? It's hard to tell, since the straw men religious characters can be seen as making fun of how atheists actually see other religions. It's kinda how Borat could be either making fun of Kazakhstan, or making fun of people ignorant enough to believe that's how Kazakhstan really is.

    • @teekydeeky
      @teekydeeky 8 лет назад +6

      It's making fun of how people are stubborn to accept the truth of their faiths. Sausage Party is about the futile search for meaning and the ineluctable seduction of myth. Very accurately represented as well. lmao

    • @masterDarts4188
      @masterDarts4188 8 лет назад +6

      That's kind of the odd thing about it though. I can see what they are trying to say with Sasuage Party. But the more you think about it, the less sense the actual message of the movie makes. The food never searched for anything. The tale of the Heavens was bestowed upon them by the perishables. The food in that's bought don't look for anything, because an answer was already given them. That's not how any of the three main monotheistic religions were discovered.And it's not how they are maintained. The movie paints all three of them with an incredibly broke stroke of the brush. What I don't understand about that, is that why would the perishable tell this tale, if the food was perfectly capable of fighting back, opposing, and even killing the humans. Wouldn't it make more sense to rebel against something you could see, touch, and literally fight ? I mean there's a reason the film waits until the very end of the movie to touch on this. And at the end of the film it kind of just takes a completely left turn and goes off road into something entirely unrelated to what it was talking bout originally. Yes, the film is trying to take about how people are stubborn in their ideologies. But in it's execution of this message, it actually ends up entirely missing the point of what it's trying to say.

    • @teekydeeky
      @teekydeeky 8 лет назад +4

      Hannibal Rasberry Frank searched for the truth. Wondered about the "great beyond" and found it to be bullshit, eventually mocking how people believe in whats convenient for them. But it was a comedy movie, and despite mocking the idea, it eventually had to move on to finish the weird ass plot.

    • @masterDarts4188
      @masterDarts4188 8 лет назад +4

      Ryan I understand it was a comedy movie. But a comedy movie doesn't mean it has some excuse for lacking any real insight or thought. And Frank didn't start to search for anything until after he was removed from the store. Frank found it to be bullshit because he came face to face with the people who made it. Again, that's not applicable to the three main monotheistic religions. Which also begs the question, if finding the answer was that simple how did no one discover it before ?

    • @ericm1839
      @ericm1839 8 лет назад +3

      why not both? it drives both arguments to extremism (that the religious are celebrating death and that, with a lack of faith, there is just a non-productive hedonist orgy) to offer us a new perspective on both sides. after all, isnt that kinda the point of comedy?

  • @SuperpopeGaming

    My problem with the not-at-all "hidden" moral of this film is that -- in the context of the movie's world -- their gods are very real, they just happen to consume their creations. The "afterlife" outside the store is also real, it just isn't something they are looking forward to. But no religion I know of says that we should wait until we die to have sex, or that our gods are trying to eat us so we should murder them.
    I think this movie is just what this video says: a 90 minute dick joke doubling as a flimsy metaphor for the intellectually shallow reasons the screenwriters believe all religions to be false.

    • @yourmom-hp4re
      @yourmom-hp4re 7 лет назад +21

      David Rutledge Youre thinking of their metaphorical roles too literally, yes it's basically confronting religion as a lot of bullshit but the humans in the movie don't represent God himself so much as the coming of the end of life. The foods represent the over-zealous types who are too positive about death because they expect there to be something more and greater afterwards, when in actuality "life" is most likely nothing more than a brief experience, a collection of constant electric currents travelling between neurons in the human brain, a freak physical occurrence that resulted from some space-sciency incident that I can't explain because I'm not educated or interested enough in that field to reasonably explain it. Thats all there is to our existance, physical science stuff happening in our brain. Everything about you, everything you know, your memories/thoughts, it's all stored up there in regions of the brain, and that all dies with you when you die. So death is an inevitable destruction that everybody's fate consists of, any denying of that truth is a delusional optimism. And that is the "hidden" message being sent.

    • @SuperpopeGaming
      @SuperpopeGaming 7 лет назад +7

      I hear you. But whatever you and I believe about the afterlife is inconsequential to the metaphor presented in this movie. It doesn't support the premise that "there is no God", only the premise that "the gods are idiots and unworthy of worship." I'm sure you're right that the intended moral is that "life is a short accident and death is final, so try and have some fun while you can." I'm just saying that the overarching metaphor in the film falls apart once the food products learn the truth.

      your mom Except for the fact that if you and, well, most Athiests, followed that conception, you would all be vying for fame, power, fun, etc. instead of just leading normal lives. So don't throw that bullshit at religion. There have been subtle showings of forces at work beyond this concept of life all around you since the beginning of time, which apparently Athiests believed was just 'a coincidence'. Believe what you want, but the majority of the world wants to live happy, not live like a bunch of depressed and hopeless shitheads.

    • @SuperpopeGaming

      Kibate As a Christian, I agree with your comments here, except that you commit the same fallacy as The Warden when you assert that people believe in God because they are essentially afraid of the dark. Also, your final comment that "time and space are nothing special in the grand scheme of things" is absurd from both a religious and scientific perspective. Time and space literally are everything as far as we can measure, and on an atheistic worldview, there is no "grand scheme" to anything. 😉

    looking at the movie from a logical perspective the detectors had to jump through a bunch of health and ethical violations to force the narrative they wanted to achieve. the cook book had no actual evidence and was pure correlation. it's basically just a Bible. if it wanted to be convincing than the pictures should've been in the same style as the rest of the film. instead it uses drawings which could lead us to believe that it's just a dark art project. the sausages where not refrigerated specifically to craft the love narrative. candy machines are placed typicly near the entrances for children to have a snack before shopping, how come their life isn't a living hell? wouldn't freeing an MnM be more evident than the cook book Bible? if honey mustard knew than how come more honey musterds didn't know? I believe honey mustard could've known cause some companies reuse their old containers, or did he know cause a cheapskate eat out of him and put him back on the shelf. either way there should've been more traumatized honey mustards. this movie has allot of loopholes that just kill the plot and I'm pretty sure selling unrefrigerated meat products is a health code violation.

    • @kevin4061
      @kevin4061 7 лет назад

      Kibate I know that the movie explained that the cook book was basically a replacement for the bible, I just find myself in conversations with people who think that the cook book Bible serves as legitimate evidence.
      and yeah, I think I missed that seen.
      my only real issue with the movie was the bizarre placement with the hot dogs and the fact that the bubble gum wasn't given enough screen time to address the state of living hell the candy should be in.

    • @kevin4061
      @kevin4061 7 лет назад

      Kibate I ment an emotional he'll when referring to the gum. like I stated before candy is placed at all entrances of a grocery store for the purpose of children to snack on in grocery stores. I would've loved to see more of the gum character because even with the religious plot thread theirs no way to keep the candy from living in an emotional he'll.

    There was something that he missed with the deeper meaning of Sausage Party, the movie either intentionally or unintentionally was trying to highlight the transition from the more ancient pagan religions that saw humanity to the pagan gods as a form of food for consumption (human sacrifice) & that humans were created to sustain the gods, & then with newer monotheistic religions the gods created humanity as child, & kind of centers around humans being the prize of those gods, going to heavens where the people were loved & cared for forever. The general point I got from the movie was that those ancient religions didn’t exist that way for no reason & if there is an afterlife or if there are gods they might be the gods of human sacrifice that we used to believe in instead of these newer gods we believe in now.

    I can appreciate that this movie was the first R-rated animated movie to hit theaters and that I lot of people enjoyed it's animated crudeness; I really see the fun in it.
    It may seem a little TOO R-rated for my taste; even though I'm 19, but hey, to each there own. :)

      Mirth Mouser It wasn't the first R-rated animated film to be in theaters, in fact, in 1999, South Park:Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was released in theaters and was even nominated for an Academy Award. There probably have even been a few others.

      The first R-rated animated film was Heavy Traffic in 1973, and more followed over the next two decades thanks to Ralph Bakshi and his imitators. This is the first R-rated, fully CGI film, and it shows how much adult animation has deteriorated in the western hemisphere.

      I remember laughing when GUM made an appearance. Actually that whole bath-soap scene was amusing and probably the best one in the movie. I prob won't watch the movie again but I don't regret seeing it.

    I felt there were so many Reptilian based hints throughout the movie. Seeing as the humans were depicted as the gods then were being shown with snake like eyes and teeth was just amazing! Hit that conspiracy theory home.

    So is this movie arguing that the afterlife doesn't exist, or that the afterlife exists and is horrible?

    • @whycantijusthaveausernameo3993
      @whycantijusthaveausernameo3993 8 лет назад +2

      There's also the fact that the 'Gods' exist in their world and are very much real.

    • @thectk1000
      @thectk1000 8 лет назад +9

      As it relates to our world, I'd say it argues that there is no afterlife at all, which is quite a scary idea to most people.

    • @mymom5248
      @mymom5248 8 лет назад +16

      The movie is arguing that religious people are weaklings who cant handle a hard truth, a very common opinion that is honestly just fucking annoying at this point.

      Trevor Brosiedon Not to mention that not only is it hammered in idea, but it's executed so poorly in the movie, adding nothing to it.
