I was surprised that the narrator didn't make mention of the "card" and how the hands have to come from the card....and that there is a new card each year.
@@brainwashingdetergent4322 in the US official games have to be played by creating hands determined by the American Mahjongg League cards (the paper that you see each player has in front of them in the video).
Newbie here too. Learning that mahjong has many slight variations in the rules depending on the country. Philippine mahjong starts out with 16 tiles, for instance, and does not play the dragons, winds and flowers.
It seems American Mahjong is more appealing to women more then men, I feel it's the Bingo for all these women... But I feel that mostly Men play the Hong Kong and or Japanese Mahjong Styles more
MJ is the type of game that appeal to people that likes to think, count & plotting, it’s why in western culture, it’s mostly played by Jewish women, but in Asian countries both men & women plays.. if your good at mj, in most cases, your math is pretty good.
Thx for giving my favorite game some press! ❤️
We play once a week, enjoy playing with friends and we love the game, looking forward to the new card!
Saki is some madness. But Americans playing mahjong must be insanity words cannot describe.
At least in riichi mahjong (1) there's no jokers (2) the hands are the same every year. :þ

Sharon Perlmuter what is the card?

Lmao at 1.27, that lady can't win because she's short of a tile. Most likely forgot to pull another tile from the wall with that "kong" 🤣🤣🤣
Dang. I thought it was a joke that it’s popular amongst Jewish women. But I’m not complaining!! They look like fun to play with!!
Don’t miss it. So much else to miss
Is this American-Style Mahjong or regular Chinese Mahjong or Japanese style Majong? I'm a newbie. :)
I think this is American style. They had joker tiles in there which the Chinese style doesn't have
As if the lack of any Asians wasn't the main giveaway.

Definitely American Mahjong but Riichi (Japanese) Mahjong is more fun to me ☺️
I'm not sure what Sirius by The Alan Parson's Project has to do with Mahjong, but hey.. It worked
I was fascinated by how many people actually play mah johngg but there was no
audio sound, that would have been better.
Hi Sheri, there was audio throughout the video. Perhaps your sound was off. Try again; Bill Geist is very charming.
Not 500BC.
I’ve never heard of a joker in the game, not the original Chinese Mahjongg, how does it work?!
it's the American Mahjong
Why say ma jong when winning? They shall say hoolah
American(white people) Mahjong don't say hu le
Hmm... I didn't know they could do joker tiles.
why is everyone an old lady
1:43 least informative piece of info ever XD

Just say Chinese lol why say Hong Kong?
@@hayabusa1329 because they are 2 different games after all.
@@slavicSlime Hong Kong is Chinese 🤦♂
again additional comment , wag mag talo sa " joker" magpapasko, kakantahan ko kayo ," at magmula ngayon kahit hindi pasko magmahjong tayo"
Wei, Jewish Majong?
打得太慢了
There's a better game than this. It's called GO. It's a strategy game.
Its a different game. Not a better game. NMJL is full of strategy which takes lots and lots of practice.
