The Globetrotters upset win over the Minneapolis Lakers in 1948 was the beginning of integration in all of professional basketball. Without this, the NBA would never exist today.

Wilt Chamberlin - a former trotter - scored 100 pts in a single game [averaging just over 50 pts per game that year] while with the Philadelphia Warriors - later San Fran, then Golden State - against the Knicks. I would have LOVED to have been in a time-out huddle with the NY Knicks, just to hear the coach say, "Who the f*** is guarding Wilt?"

Yes the two teams had one of the greatest players all-time of the early to the mid century. Two globetrotters were known as one of the legends and basketball hall of Fame and two were playing still from the 1930's with kind of skills too along with top players of the first two Reese and Marques. Or their could of been four other ones . George Milan was known as the 18-21 top NBA players but his defense and offense of his moving the ball with his strong arms can go side to side away of any other center his days or of physical better then the other top centers of his full body stand and moving to go in closer to the basket for layup or hook shot.

Bill Russell is the unquestionably the greatest NBA player of all time. Eleven championships. Bill used his immense skill set and intelligence to do whatever was necessary to win on a given night. Block shots, intimidate on defense, pass/complete assists, score, rebound, or run full court dribbling and dunk as well as, or better than, any center.
Many of his shot blocks were directed to the hands of his teammates.
As great as Wilt, Kareem, Shack, Michael, and Lebron were/are, they didn’t/don’t have the complete range of skills, capabilities, savvy, and ability to win again, and again, and again that Bill Russell had/has.
Bill Russell is unquestionably the NBA greatest of all time.

oldman baller50 Wrong. The Trotters lacked depth - often playing with only 5 to 7 players. The Lakers had at least two full teams,
No “3 second rule” for the lane yet. Milan scored over much smaller defenders.
The Lakers has the best of on-the-road accommodations while the Trotters slept in a dive or a bus.

And, the way things were done in those days from boxing to football to baseball, the Globetrotter probably let the Lakers win to keep racial tensions down. Here on RUclips, Michael Jordan talks about Larry Bird's ability, making it clear that Bird is not in league of MJ, Magic and other black players. He was not being mean, just truthful, See: Michael Jordan on Arsenio Hall Show. Wilt Chamberlain said Meadowlark Lemon was greatest basketball player he'd played.

There is no comparing Yao Ming to Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Clyde Drexler, Shaquille O'Neal, etc. If any comparison could be made, it'd be between Yao and Larry Bird or John Stockton, etc. But, I give jshcuff123 credit for putting some real perspective on blacks in basketball. However, I still remember Larry Bird saying: basketball is a black man's sport. This was a truthful statement as today NBA is 82% black when just 50+ years ago blacks were not allowed. Shame.

That's not True Sir!! I was around at the time, and no such games took place. Furthermore the narrator in this doc would have said so. Can you furnish the dates and times these games took place. At that time no team in the BAA (NBA today) would play the Globetrotters, and when the Minneapolis Lakers were brave enough to play them in 1948 (the first and only time I know of) and lost that was it. Thank you.
