  • After a contentious week with Shaun (Freddie Highmore) questioning his judgment, Dr. Nakano (guest star Hiro Kanagawa) makes a big decision: He will not be performing any more surgeries. Despite Shaun now trusting Dr. Nakano, the seasoned surgeon believes that he's starting to make small mistakes, and that's too risky. From 'Letting Go,' season 4, episode 17 of The Good Doctor.     Just imagine the example he is setting for the three surgeons. They will always hold him in highest respect and will always look up to him and try to match the ethical bar he set.

    That is what you call a great doctor. He know when to stop and not put people lifes in danger. Like he said when make minor mistakes you must quit. Especialy in surgeon on people

      This comment struck a chord with me so hard, learned this the hard way after a divorce for ex wife, friends who used me, and people just playing nice for gains. Being alone is better than being betrayed.

    You know I didn’t give this show that much credit but this scene was pretty realistic in the sense that once you start downplaying your mistakes you only get worse from there and you have to be hard on yourself to ensure you don’t make any mistakes.

      I mean yeah. It's not gonna touch the patient. Lots of doctors and nurses have their own caps for their hair.

      @@megg2826 really thankfull for your reply but what about the uniformity. I am an ICU Nurse and hospital provide the pair of cape, only which we wear. This is not a debate but i just wanna know is it allowed in every united state hospital setting?

    I know it's just a show but Doctors need to be more like him.. Tiny errors could mean the difference between life and death for the patients.

    Episode tonight was good, wish Dr. Andrews should've been easy on Shaun, I mean he literally lost his baby. I feel like Andrews had no chill until like near the end of the episode.

      To be fair he WAS fairly easy on him and he even defended Shaun's behavior. He could've easily fired him for that as Paul said.

    I am a doc n always a huge fan of this show.. but this episode made me irritated ... they do craniotomy to the patient n next day she will be having hair on the head with a plaster on it ... lol no one does such neurosurgeries

      Dr. Nanako knows when to give up before he makes a big mistake that will hurt his career’s legacy.
      In other words: Dr Nanako was so good that the other doctors wanted his help in their own cases. However he said he will only help overlooking and not joining in on the surgery as he almost made a mistake 15 minutes ago. And almost making a mistake is enough to make him decide to quit now before something wrong happens.

      Nakano was his mentor, but Andrews also thought that Shaun was acting irrationally and out of grief because of Lea's miscarriage in the previous episode. He wasn't wrong that Shaun wasn't truly ready to come back to work yet.

      It's hubris and rationalizing away things like that which put other people in danger and keep people in the game far longer than they have business being in it.

      @@SJYNYC It's negative and self deprivating people like you that will have people on that track. If you feel like you are unable to perform based on old age, get a medical review first. Studies have shown that with proper diet and exercise, even the elderly can perform at a high cognitive level, on into their 60's and mid 70's.

      @@curiouslymavismade At what age one's cognitive level declines below a certain level varies from one individual to another, no matter how healthy one is. Studies come up with statistics which, while meaningful, don't tell the entire story for each individual. Maybe this surgeon was too hard on himself, or maybe he knew himself well enough to know when to move from surgeon to some other branch of medicine.
