I think the crotch parts are interchangable so why they didn't just change it for the Action Comics 1000 version to have a more classic look I don't know. They seemed to have the idea that because they were using the Page Punchers body they had to use the WHOLE body. They couldn't swap out the crotch parts or the forearms for a more classic look.
It's a shame because they're SO close here. The 'S' design, the headsculpt, the shades of blue, yellow and red. They were really, really close to delivering the perfect silver/bronze age Superman and whiffed it by cheaping out on parts.

  • @reimannsum9077

I'm reminded of that scene from Spider-Man the Animated Series wherein a comicbook artist is explaining to his protege that "you can't draw the hero's hands larger than his head," and the kid - meant to represent McFarlane in conversation with Stan Lee from their discussion about the creation of Overkill - says, "That's how heroes are drawn these days. Times have changed."
This grotesque figure (proportionally because otherwise he's fantastic) is McFarlane having the last laugh.

I thought Superman: Action Comics #1000 was pretty good. The thing about getting a decent Superman face is don't give him an unnecessarily serious and/or overly detailed face, but neither give him a permanent grin all the time like this one.

@@blue1133 I think that’s a good rule of thumb for Supermans (Supermen?) who only come with a single head, but I’d always rather see a Superman come out with a smiling head, and a nondescript grimace like you said. Give people options.

My preferred Superman colors are the light red and blue, with black and white suit, no cape, long hair Superman being a close second.

No buns of steel? Cake-less? This is a new low. It is difficult for some to understand what is going on with the manufacturer's management of the comic based action figures. On one hand they produce a product like Nightwing that isn't worth its packaging. On the other hand the same company produces a figure which has disproportionate body parts. This is not a good time to be a collector of comic based action figures.

I'm on the hunt for this one but I'm replacing the cape with a wired one, he'll be my classic Supes to go with Knightfall Batman.

The real problem is - as usual - it's off model.
Wrong belt, no belt loops, wrong boot tops, wrong cuffs, no yellow S symbol on cape, wrong shade of blue.

I like a medium blue, not too bright and not too dark, with bright reds and yellows. I really wish that Hasbro had the license for DC. I know they don't want to share a toy company for standard releases, but they have so many body molds that could be retooled into a DC character. Look at their recent Power Princess, it's a better Wonder Woman figure than McFarlane toys or Mattel ever made.

For a classic Superman, the lines on the top of the boots are correct. Look at any cover from 1968-1990 or so. The belt is so wrong it hurts. There shouldn't be the angling down that it has, it should be straight across and threaded through red loops on the belt, and most importantly with a circle or oval belt buckle. It is SO glaringly wrong that I didn't notice the tiny top half until you talked about it. This is clearly an alternate universe Superman and not at all "classic."

I'm usually a dark blue guy when given the option, but for Superman I do like the light blue look. Maybe it's just nostalgia. I don't care for this figure though. A classic Superman in his light blue attire should be big, but not cut. And those giant hams at the end of this guy's arms look absurd and the lower half is clearly too big. Just like the previous Hush Superman, it’s close.
I love the sculpted body. There’s more muscle definition in the arms and legs. I like the sculpted logo on the chest, and the figure seems better proportioned.
I’m not really a big fan of the head. Smiling Superman is nice but this looks like an awkward teenager smiling for a class photo. The giant hands are weird, they have the wrong belt for classic Superman, and the articulation kind of blows. I didn’t know the legs had limited range going forward 🙁 Also, they need to get rid of those cuffs. It’s on every Superman figure, he doesn’t have them aside from a few of versions like New 52 and some modern looks, not classic.
If you’re not too critical about it and just want a Superman, it’s fine. It’ll look nice on a shelf, but I still wouldn’t consider this to be the “definitive” classic Superman from McFarlane.

Something about this makes me think it looks like horseshit and I just know it's the expression on the face. If I had to imagine on the spot what a "goober" looks like, that's it - that would be him; he is the one they wrote The Goofy Goober Song for. Absolutely infuriating that it's 2024 yet there's not a single good smiling Superman figure in the last decade. The likes of Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez have been providing quintessential reference images for decades now so it boggles my mind how it seems like no company can get a classic smiling Superman right.

100% reuse of the Lee Bermejo Superman. Only unique thing is the head.

I just wish the figure was 6.5 inches to make them more compatible with other DC Universe action figures. No need to make these figures giants.

I think that McFarlane is just as trash as ML. ...in completely different ways. Honestly, I think overall, ML is better. McFarlane looks better at first glance, due mostly to paint apps, but damn near every McFarlane DC multiverse figure suffers from the same problems. Those being, bad articulation (I mean, I think neca is almost just as articulated, but they look awesome), the head sculpts are booty and those DAMN DIAPERS!! At least your ML figures will still have a crotch in 25 years! Sik

FYI everone, it's super super easy to improve the torso articulation snd shorten the legs of this figure (you shouldn't have to, but whatever)

Shorten the legs and give this figure a cloth suit and it blows mezco out of the water
