For anyone planning to dive into more advanced lighting down the road, the warming filter/gel is a "must have" (so don't throw it out after watching this video ;-)).
Hi! Couple of things. 1. They come in two versions, right? One with temp control and one that's just 5500K and uses all 300 LED's at once? I just ordered a III that doesn't seem to have temp control, and, quite honestly, it's the way I like it. I find that the ones that control temp tend to err on the side of magenta. 2. What camera are you using? I don't love using 60p (or 50p here in PAL land) myself but I love the look of that cam. 3. The point of the orange filter is if you're shooting under harsh fluorescent lights and you want to warm up skin tones a bit. Obviously it needs to be used correctly and white balanced/exposed properly, but it can be useful in that situation.
Yes, there are 2 versions. I've got another video in the same playlist with this video about the 5500k only light. The cameras I used were the Panasonic G7 with a 20mm f/1.7 lens, and a Sony AX33 for the overhead cam. Thanks for the info about the orange filter.
On these budget panels, the orange diffuser is usually used when you're under incandescent. Since the light panel itself changes color temp though, I'm kind of puzzled as to why they included it.
Well the brightest settings is full power on both daylight and tungsten. Which means it ends up probably around 4200K. So if you wanted a more tungsten look but maintain some extra brightness, I supposed you would use the orange diffuser. But that being said the diffuser would reduce the output, so I'm not sure how much extra lux you'd be gaining.
I'm looking to shoot handheld on an OMD EM1 MkII , and given the smaller sensor I wanted to have an LED to take with me to help out in those lower light situations where noise starts to creep in at the higher ISOs. Would the Air be too weak? I like how slim it is. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the video. I've been looking for an affordable LED light and this is perfect. I may be able to get away with only using 1 light. Got the same batteries as you, too.
Awesome review! dig the results, try flipping it around to bounce light back off your "white?" wall to soften it even more since you got the power, use the barn doors to control spill and conserve power. These would be great with 2 compact light stands so you can set up quickly anywhere. 3 of these would be perfect, could use the Air for a nice hair light ;) I think you'll be able to control multiple lights with it, since you have the channels. That may just represent the amount of bluetooth devices connected. I think I may pick up a few YN300 III's. Awesome review once again :)
***** Oh yeah I hear ya lol, it's an expensive profession, or hobby. Oh and just thought, since it has barn doors, you can easily slip a pillow cover or even a paper towl over it lol, may not look pretty but it might work :). cheers mate.
thanks for that review. i have some 100+ LED panels, 4 years old which i want to exchange with newer ones. that 300LED panels + barn doors and remote/app controlling seem to be a nice replacement. i want to buy 4 of these for mobile filming. but i have a question: is it better or worse to have reflecting barn doors? the pros seem to use black barndoors for forming the light.
I think it depends on the way you want the light to look. Worst case with these, if you wanted it to be black, you could always put electrical tape on them or spraypaint them.
for largests distances maybe can be more useful this kind of lights? Looks like when they near from your face looks harder lights, but for my job i will only use large distancies (3-5 meters +-)
Hey Jordan how far was the YN300 III from your face when you shot this? Just curious as im trying to figure out aprox f stop at iso 200 in a portrait lighting scenario
Hi Jordan, Thanks a lot for this great review! I was thinking in buying the Yongnuo 300 III for stopmotion animation. I was wondering...does this light present any visible flicker or light fluctuation when taking consecutive pictures? that would be a deal breaker for me. thanks!
What do you think about the cheap amazon $30 softboxes that uses the 85W bulbs? Please your honest opinion, send it back and get the Tongue YN300 air or the III 3-5k model? other comments are welcome as well.
Actually in your video about the Air version you indicated that the lumen output is almost the same on both YN 300 versions. I am guessing that is not correct given how this video shows the difference is quite huge.. I am guessing the air is more for a desktop light for close interviews or a fill light of some sort.. AND YES what is the name of that clock you have ??
Hi, I'm french and i have don't understand all. I hesitate between YN 300 and YN 300 air. 300 offer more puissance ? do you think he offer more light ? Thank you
I just rewatched, and you're absolutely right. I just showed setting one temp, then the other. There's not a way to set both temps at the same time, but if you click the color temp button, you can control one temp at a time, then click it again to control the other, so they're independent. (for example, you could do 50% one color, 80% the other, and have both sets of LEDs lit up at the same time)
This is a stupid question, but I was wondering, do you know if 2280 lumens is brighter than 1680 lux? I'm not sure if lux and lumens are the same. I have two DOF HVR-D160 video lights that are 1680 lux each at 1 meter. But I'm considering getting those of these Yongnuo YN-300 IIIs if 2280 lumens at 1 meter (4560 for two) would be a big difference over the 3360 lux at 1 meter that I use now. Any info appreciated, thanks! And nice video and unboxing, BTW!
It really depends how concentrated the beam of light is. Lumens is total output, but lux is the amount of light that falls on a particular spot. So while you may have a light with low lumens, if it's a spotlight, the lux value would remain fairly high relative to a more floody light
+Jordan Keyes I'm looking for some lighting to help improve my videos over on Open FOSS Training here on RUclips. I can send you a picture of my setup if that will help. trying to figure out if these might fit the bill or if I should try something else.
I have no Idea. I tried with the remote. It' works, but also not as good as I wanted... Without the remote it's simple bad. But also there is some disturbing thing if I use the remote or not (When I turn it on and I go up to 20 the first 1-15 is in a different color like the rest 20-99...) Sorry for my english. The lamp is srtong enough, and te quality is ok, but the system...
999slawter so u are saying that without the remote, and from 20-99 it works perfectly? Or what else is the problem? Have u checked with the local store u got this light from? Maybe the one u bought has some errors or so? By the way, your English is fine, dont worry :D
With the remote! Without the remote it's bad :P I got this from China, so no way to check it out :/ I hope that I am the only one who have this problem. And I think so.
hey Jordan!! I just saw your led ring light review ( wich I liked a lot) and I was wondering if you would recommend for me to buy the YNE 300 III or the Neewer led ring, I want them for vídeo vloggin. but also for low budget short films... I can spend just about 135 box please help me I need to buy lights urgently thank you!!
They're two very different lights, really. The ring light puts out a lot more light, and as long as you don't put it directly in front of the person you're filming, you'll never know you're using a ring light, it just looks like another LED panel. I use mine with the camera right in the center, so you can see it in my glasses/eyes, and it can be a bit distracting, but it provides a ton of light, so I like it a lot.
+Jordan Keyes I just received 2 - 5500K Models ,Can't use them until i get the Batteries for them Which are coming in the Mail..I ordered these just because i heard they were a lot more Powerful for light
+Jordan Keyes what's the point of getting a 3200/5500k led panel then if you only use the 5500k setting? why not get the 5500k version which i guess would be even more powerful? or are 3200k leds still useful for filming?
Hej Jordan, you are one of the guys on RUclips I most trust in Video photgraphing, I wanted to consult with you regarding buying an affordable video camera, for multi use promotional films. Thanks for any help. Tal.
not sure why most youtube reviewers didnt bother reply to his viewers,he can post the setting or what camera he uses but he decide to just ignore his viewers or potential subscribers
This video's from 2 years ago. Things have changed a lot since it was uploaded, and unfortunately all of my replies were deleted (changed channel names in the last 2 years, which, for some reason, deleted every comment I made before the change). The camera I was using was the Panasonic G7 with the Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 lens. As far as the settings, it was most likely f/1.7, shutter speed either 1/60 or 1/120, and ISO 200 or 400, but it's been so long, and things have changed so much, it's really hard to remember.
Does anyone here use the YN300 IIIs, 300 Airs, or 600Ls with either a diffuser, or bounced? I am wondering if the same kind of brightness that Jordan has in his video here can be achieved by, say, using two 600Ls, or four 300 Airs bounced, rather than used as direct light.
cheap and nasty. used them a few weeks ago and you get what you pay for. would not hold up to prolonged use. Aputure have the best budget lights imo from build quality to power.
What camera are you using it's so crisp I love it
Thank you! Your video helped me a lot in buying

WOW!!!! Best review I've seen in a while. Awesome job and extremely informative. Thank you Jordan.
You may have just sold me on this light! Great comparison! Thanks for it!
Nice production on this Jordan.
Attach the link to the app? I can't find it
great review. only thing lacking was that I wish you had shown the actual light as you dimmed and adjusted the temperature.

Is this good enough for a keylight? What do you recommend to pair this with as a fill light?
Excellent video.. thank you!... I just got the YN300 III and this video was VERY helpful. Keep it yo.

Would you say that this would be good for low light weddings??
Is this brighter and better than the 600Air?
Thanks so much for the video. I've been looking for an affordable LED light and this is perfect. I may be able to get away with only using 1 light. Got the same batteries as you, too.
What budget stands would you recommend for these panels? Thanks for the video, I've found it very helpful!
does the light charge the battery when connected to the ac adaptor? wouldnt expect it to thoug
i am not able to get the white light setting from my yn300 iii, any suggestions?
Can one use power adapter instead of battery?

plan to buy either one of this led light..thanks for your review
hi, other than the yongnuo, what are the lights you use most often? you have softboxes?
Hell yeah I'm going to mount this on my head 😂
Nice video what canera did u use for this video ?

Need to examine specs. Remote via Bluetooth. So the controllers might be usable on other devices?
hey does it produce a lot of fan noise? which one produce less noise? air or pro?
Thanks man! :) Just wondering, what camera are you using? :)
Hey Jordan how far was the YN300 III from your face when you shot this? Just curious as im trying to figure out aprox f stop at iso 200 in a portrait lighting scenario
Is there a mono color version? So suposed to bo brgither... right?
Did enjoy the video so thumb up and I think after 10 videos about this lite I have watched I'll buy it :)
Thank you for this video. I decided to go with this one after thinking I was sold on the yn300 air (from your other video) :P
what mic did you use?
Very useful video ... Thx 4 sharing ! Just orderd it before on Ebay...
Hi Jordan,
Thanks a lot for this great review!
I was thinking in buying the Yongnuo 300 III for stopmotion animation. I was wondering...does this light present any visible flicker or light fluctuation when taking consecutive pictures? that would be a deal breaker for me. thanks!
Is this better then the rotolight neo?
You have a serious addiction to lighning stuff and cameras and their accesoires. :)
What do you think about the cheap amazon $30 softboxes that uses the 85W bulbs? Please your honest opinion, send it back and get the Tongue YN300 air or the III 3-5k model? other comments are welcome as well.
Hi, I have a question for you. Would the Sony NP-F970 battery also work?
Yes Sony NP-F970 will work perfect! I use this battery on my yn300 iii.
Thanks :-)
stronger than rotolight neo?
hello, how you doing?? i just got this lamp, but i just cant get the app for android, you know where can i get it??? thanks a lot.
great video man I like these lights
Do you need a battery if you have an adapter?
No. If you have the AC adapter, it will run without a battery as long as you have a wall outlet
Jordan Keyes thanks so much

Thanks for this. Very informative.
Hi,

I hesitate between YN 300 and YN 300 air. 300 offer more puissance ? do you think he offer more light ?

The Yongnuo 300 III is 10 times brighter than the Air.
did you have to do anything special for the bi mode? I have the 300III but the android app does not show the controls for both 3200 and 5500k.
There are two versions of this light. One bicolor and one with only 5500k. The only 5500k ist brighter, because it uses all LEDs for 5500
Shame you didn't show if you can set both temps at particular levels at the same time
I just rewatched, and you're absolutely right. I just showed setting one temp, then the other.

hey sorry to bother you but can I get the name of that rad clock in the background? BTW I'm buying this light!!
+Jordan Keyes thanks a lot man!
Great video, the one, which made me decide. thanks :)
Gotta tell us what the name of the cool clock is. It is a bit mesmerizing. Take me to your leader.
thank you i just confirmed what am buying . yn 300 iii

No wonder its very bright. It goes to eleven!
