I actually think the interviewer did a good job here, as opposed to what a lot of comments seem to be saying... it's important for an interviewer to ask challenging and sometimes devils advocate like questions to get the full story and understanding from the speaker. It's not the interviewers job to be right or to ask the person what we already know.
I remember this time when I'd had some $400 worth of deliveries stolen because the delivery guy put them in front of the door. The police... Couldn't even be bothered to take a report on the phone and told me to go fill in an online form - that they never followed up on in any way that I know of. But when I told Amazon what had happened and that I wanted to change my address for future deliveries... They decided that it was their fault for not making sure that I got the items, and refunded all the money... Which was quite shocking to me, since I definitely didn't think that thieves stealing something should be considered Amazon's fault... But good customer service.
Not anymore. Now all the sellers are third parties who choose the cheapest delivery services, and you will have to send refund requests to them (which they will refuse). You will have to do a google search to find their A-Z Guarantee page, and end up talking to a bot.
@@momchilandonov Not a huge difference but i think amazon deliveries coming from Amazon drivers is fairly new. I remember it used to always be fedex or ups.
What? The media is going to break a huge story on the corruption going on between the government and the major corporate entities any day now, just you wait!
This is an interview. The interviewer is not giving his personal thoughts on the matter, he's just asking Bezos questions that a lot of that day's investors had in their minds. And because the interviewer challenged him a bit, it allowed Bezos to make his points in a much stronger way than otherwise.
This 25 year old interview is gem. That time "Delivery centres", Dark stores, etc were new and alien concepts to the world. But, the man knew his stuff and look at him now 25 years later. Amazon is a success story everywhere - literally round the globe! This is what Success looks like. 👍🏻👍🏻

100%. Customer service at Amazon is beyond anything I have ever experienced at any other company. I will typically pay a premium for this service quality.
Not any more. When you perform a search on Amazon, the products you see and the order you see them are based on advertising dollars and not based on what would be most helpful to you. They sold out their microfocus on the customer.

Can someone move Jeff Bezos’ chair closer to the interviewer so he doesn’t have to crane his neck forward? He looks like he’s trying to stick his head in a hole in the wall.
Perfect example of someone with a vision and drive, who knows he's right, trying to convince someone who's been programmed by the system who thinks he's wrong.
he's right. if you focus on your costumers and don't worry about what competition is doing and keep your head down focused on goal which is costumers liking your product. what it comes down to is costumers. that will never change. for all business through out history. no matter the product costumers is all you need to focus on and don't look at what your competitors are doing. Look at how your costumers are satisfied. he's right.
'obsessive attention to the customer ' he is not faking it that's what makes Amazon stand out in an industry where new competitors can spring up any time
Implementation. Not revolution. AI is not going to take over. Humans will exploit the tech to nickel and dime the market. That’s what will actually happen.
This guy is so amazing. Let's give him a cut of what we each make to keep society running. He really deserves it because of all of the sacrifices he made. All skill, there was not luck or handouts on his road. Let's make him a trillionaire no matter the cost! All hail Lord Bezos!
I could not even focus on Jeff or the topics because this reporter only angered me. The guy had an agenda going in and Jeff did better than I would have by not getting mad or defensive. What a jerk that reporter was.
You're being way too sensitive, he's just playing the devil's advocate which actually allows Jeff to better argue why his company will succeed. It's not like investors don't ask themselves those questions (for example, that amazon might not have had the expertise to overcome companies with decades of experience). But because the interviewer asks it, Jeff is able to address that concern, and it's very possible that actually gained them some investors.
He didnt have an agenda. Most people who cant do hate to see others succeed and most people are pessimistic . There is a reason its easier to tell someone they cant do something instead of telling them they can. People are programmed to be this type of way and that is why most people wait for the few to create and tell them what to do

The point isn't to know your stuff. It's to care about the customer and do your best to find ways to serve them better.
The success is a byproduct.

It's kinda incompetent on Amazon's part to leave something in front of the door to be easily stolen...
