    Around halfway through the video I figured Tal would lose, since he wasn't down at least 1 full minor piece at that point.

    Keres is one of my favourite players, he was impossible to attack, and often ended up being the one with the initiative after defending so brilliantly.

    The sad part of this video isn't Tal losing, but people underestimating Keres.
    Keres was also an attacking player, but he doesn't sacrifice his queen every other game.

    I`m surprised to see Tal play 1.d4 against a player like Keres in -54!
    He must have had a great deal of respect for Keres.
    I know he did some heavy analysis of 1.d4,especially after he lost to Botvinnik in -61,but I didnt think he would play it against serious opposition that early...
    Cheers.
    (I wish u would do some longer and deeper analysis of some of the MASTERPIECES!)

    Tal was just 17 y. o. in 1954. For a youngster he played very well against world famous grandmaster. But even in later years when Tal was on his peak, he always had problems with Keres. Somehow Tal `s magic and flashy sacrifices did not work well against Keres. Their lifetime score is 8-5 for Keres and was even worse 8-3 before 1973 when Tal scored 2 wins in their last games when Keres was already 57 years old .

    I think that killer move is on 5:22 - Nd5 because after this move black have all pieces protected and attacking initiative. After queen exchange C pawn is marching to promotion, also black king can easily threat to take down white pawns on g4 and h3 due to difficulty to protect rook, knight and two pawns by white king.

    That was a nifty little switch up...I've noticed you generally put black at the bottom of the screen if they're going to be the winner (pretty much giving away the outcome.) Thinking he would be the winner, I was expecting Tal to pull some "crazy" move out of his...well...you know...the whole time and somehow snatch a victory. The worse it got for him, the more I was thinking that whatever he ends up doing is going to be beautiful...which quickly turned into...ok...well...not now...he's done...

    I think critical position was reached at 26 moves in, when black decided to not defend the pawn and go for an attack. I think the killer move was winning the knight on F2, that was clever and Tal should have prevented it, I am surprised it worked.

    i wouldn't have resigned. the travel of the King to a6 offers one opportunity for check with the rook on the b line and this changes the dynamic quite a bit.
    Of course, King wouldn't really go on to hide as far as a6, he could circle his pawn on c6 and get help from the knight at some point. But i don't think going to a6 being chased by the Queen only is the right supposed development there.

    7:32 after black queen takes pawn, then she can take the knight and it's not too bleak for white. He could go for a draw, maybe.

    • @GoldinDr
      @GoldinDr 8 лет назад

      +Defalt47 I don't understand. At 7:32, it's White's move, not Black's, and there are no good options.

    • @Chiefkid20
      @Chiefkid20 8 лет назад

      +GoldinDr I meant instead of black king to f6, black queen takes pawn, giving check to the white king and challenging white queen. Obviously there would be a queen exchange, after which white rook takes black rook. The board does favor white at that point, but I'd say there still exists a chance for a gamechanging play, right? As I said, it's not too bleak for black.

    • @GoldinDr
      @GoldinDr 8 лет назад

      +Defalt47 So then why on earth would Black do that? Still not understanding ... Kf6 leaves White without good options. Almost like a safety shot in nine-ball pool.

    Why not queen to g2 in the critical move for blacks? Isn't that a check mate?

    Keres was great. I didn't understand why when white queen takes e5 pawn...black didn't play rook takes f3 pawn.

    Tal is my favorite player, but I actually wanted black to win in this game. He won me over somehow

    Good to see Tal lose. Keres was an amazing player. Somehow I never found Tal as impressive as say a Paul Morphy or even close to what the comments section on this channel makes him out to be.

    white could have proceeded without castling...by pushing the h pawn and playing qh6. especially after the dark square bishops had been exchanged

    Strange game... Tal opening with d4 and Keres playing King's Indian instead of Nimzo-indian ? Tal closing the center ? Good game anyway...

      +Czegenyi Raymond id like to know this also,i love Nedzmetdinov videos from mato, but theres alot more Keres games, they are both amazing chess players who beat world champions like Tal, but never became champions themselves, Keres is called the un-crowned king, i think Nedzmetdinov is also, id like to see them both playing against each other :)
