This video covers the changes of TikTok's evolving userbase, the recent zero view issues, the emphasis on the personal profile ratio, the FYP split of audiences, and user comments beginning to trigger community violations. I've noticed a pattern. One week all my videos go viral and the other they just flop absurdly even tho they have the same level of work behind, humor, quality. It's just so frustrating. They are starting to encourage stealing content. Why work hard if everything is random?

This happens to me all the time one week il blow up and can gain over 3 or 4 k followers overnight and get over 100k on most videos, the week after I barely get 100 followers overnight and under 10k views on a video, I just think this happens to a lot of people, and it also seems to be the videos I put the less effort in to that seems to do the best 🤷♂️
I'm curious what you mean by 'encouraging stolen content'. I've got multiple accounts in the theme-page space, and it's still a tough game to use clips from other accounts. I agree though that TikTok does often reward second-hand inspiration more so than the original at times. The best thing you can do is comment your claim to the idea on the video you see, I'm afraid.

Bruh I have a bunch of friends on TikTok with millions of followers that are all randomly getting banned and I’ve noticed it’s happening to other creators as well
It does often seem random at times and TikTok does make mistakes. Would you be able to link their profiles or handles at all? I'm doing research on this and am trying to find as many 'unjustifiably' banned accounts as I can.

TikTok needs a competitor that will allow creators to express themselves more. Protect their creators and make them feel welcome. TikTok makes their creators walk on eggshells unfortunately. Creators are fearing any little issue that isn’t a community violation will get them banned. A new and improved app to compete with TikTok is needed. 💯
It's not a bad idea, maybe something decentralized on the blockchain, haha. It's such a tough game to be in the social media market, really.

it seems like every creator i know is having problems with getting their content on the fyp lately. my analytics are showing 0% from my fyp, and my content barely gets past 1000/2000 views now when nothing changed with my account, i had a viral video recently and since then all content i've posed has been getting no views or randomly flagged for stuff that is at best a super hard puritanical reach.
the fact you can get banned or have a video removed for your own comments is crazy. i dont like to read comments a lot to avoid negativity and it shouldn't be my responsibility as the creator to moderate an already supposedly automoderated comment section, and you definitely shouldnt lose your account over it. i really hope tiktok sees how bad this problem of random banning becomes and maybe just sets parental controls or content controls or something, rather than continuously banning anyone that even teeters on a line of family friendly.
I notice EVERYONE has gotten way less views the past month. They definitely changed something in the algorithm
For real, i usually get 2~3k views a video now I'm barely getting 200 views.

I am beyond frustrated with tiktok. I keep getting violations and then the videos get reinstated yet I am still banned from posting. Also my videos are INNOCENT. I feel like all the work I put in was for nothing
@@erikatorresmusic_ I have decided to not post any recipes for a week but post videos about our family that are easier to make for now- since no one is seeing them.
This is happening to a lot of creators. Another app needs to come around that will not have these issues. Hopefully we as creators can grow another app that way we are not walking on eggshells. This will happen soon.

hey, love the videos. I started tik tok just over a month ago playing piano, doing requests and little short improv videos. Although my numbers aren't to the crazy levels you talk about (i am about to hit 4k followers after a huge amount of hard work including 60 hours of live streamed concerts) , the connections I've made on there have been some of the most genuine and meaningful out of any platform I've had experience of in the past. I am trying my best to focus my success on the quality of these connections rather than just the number of followers on my profile. One thing I wanted to do when I joined was that although I wanted to have fun, I wanted to be true to my brand as an artist. Would be interested to see more videos around Tik Tok for artists/musicians who want to promote their original work. Thanks again. Your videos have been really informative and enjoyable to watch.
What I really like of your videos is the fact that you post less videos, but all the contents are always new,. Differently from Robert Benjamin who posts A LOT, talks A LOT, but basically saying almost nothing new (a 12 minutes video can be easily zipped in a couple of minutes long videos, sometimes even less!). You bet! The growth on RUclips has been great so far but's that not my primary goal. I just enjoy sharing what a learn about TikTok as I find new information. We've got a lot of huge projects going on behind the scenes as well, such as a TikTok app, multiple algorithm studies, and a few creator events. Trying to find time to post when I can, haha. :)

I’ve had 3 videos taken down for harassment and bullying in less than 3 days, which doesn’t make any sense to me at all. I hope TikTok is gonna fix their AI soon, creators might just get tired of it.
I am legitimately scared to post. I’ve had videos get taken down for ABSOLUTELY no reason. And I submit appeals, and even when the video gets restored, another gets taken down and I’d get banned from posting for a day. This never used to happen… And on Reddit literally every post on Tiktok help talks about how people are taking down videos and accounts for no reason. I don’t know what to do anymore. Anything and everything seems to get taken down and I’m scared to post. They’ve always had sensitive guidelines, but this is a whole other level. I can only hope that they’ll fix this very soon for everyone’s sake.

That's a great question. As far as I'm aware, you do need a Creator account to join the fund. I don't belive it's an option for business accounts, yet.
My views have suddenly tanked the last week or so. I’m no longer on the FYP, and it was a sudden change after I made a post about the Pandora Papers release. I halfway suspect a shadow ban, even though they claim that isn’t a thing. I’m hoping it’s just because I grew too much, too quickly- I gained about 400k followers in just a few months due to 3 viral videos.
The creator fund also owes me about $1,000. I strongly suspect that’s a big reason why my content isn’t being pushed anymore. I left the fund, and we’ll see what happens to my views after the payout.
I’m really struggling as a singer/ rapper. I was doing quite well, and then suddenly my last several videos have just not been put on the FYP according to the analytics. I’m doing a lot of higher quality work and it just has nothing

Best video about TikTok I've seen in a long time. Was following one other TikTok 'guru' but he got way too annoying and repetitive, LOL. I think I've found my new 'go-to' person!

I was was talking to a bunch of college students who said they are limiting their time on TikTok now that school is back in session. Some even deleted the app.
Yeah, I've heard similar comments from friends as well. TikTok isn't for everyone, and can often be a distraction.

Do you know that the view count can increase just by swiping repeatedly ( up and down) then those videos affected by the repeated swipe, will add view count on it,
(doesn't work by doing it on your own videos) but it works when you do it to other creators

7:54 so my question here... would it be better to turn off the entire comment section or just quickly delete all problematic comments? I don't think it's right to have a video taken down off of irrelevant comments but hopefully, they'll fix this in a few months
I agree, it's not an optimal system they have in place. Creators do often choose to limit comment visibility, so that's definitely an option to consider if you notice your audience tends to break out in a negative way often. I personally wouldn't recommend it, but it's always the last recourse.
@@TheJosephTodd I block, block, block negative trolls. There are familiar words that are a tell. Too I reset my password daily. Recently my a/c has slowed to a crawl even though I’ve stopped using certain hashtags. Grrr…. Tik tok is so unpredictable, but it’s no time to give up 🤪
Does messaging settings on Tiktok has been changed? I mean, is there a restriction before(way back 2021) like now that your friends on Tiktok can only send a msg to you.

Tiktok algorithm to me never changes, it's hard to predict because it acts so randomly that I have given up on trying to truly understand how it works.
It does feel that way at times, sure. I concur that the changes are not too significant, although there's definitely an emphasis on the new features that are released.
HI JOSEPH. I remember you said in one of your videos that logging into our tiktok account using different devices will effect the views as tiktok will think that we are a business account right? What about changing network connection like changing WiFi to our phone's mobile data while using tiktok? Does that effect the views too?
Changing the connection I haven't seen as a major issue, thought using multiple devices to access and account is something I'd recommend against. It's certainly not a blanket standard, but more time than not, I have noticed a reduction in organic reach.

Random Question: Do views come in waves now? I’ve noticed that my friends videos will get many views, then it stops and picks up again later. (He is a newer account)
It’s kind of a way for tiktok to choose what content to boost. Let’s just say your video got amazing reception in wave 1, in wave 2 your video will get more impressions (basically a spot on the fyp) but if it starts to not get good enough reception in wave 3 it gets less impressions

Short answer, yes. If there are one more barrier people have to click versus nothing, there's will certainly be less interest. But, there are many videos that have a sensitive content warning that do succeed on TikTok.

Do you mean to schedule a live event? There should be a little calendar icon in the upper right hand of your profile page.

I'm hoping you can answer my question but when does watch time end on a video? Is it when someone likes the video or does it matter when they heart your video as long as they continue watching till the end?
That's an interesting question, can't say I have an ironclad answer to that. In general, I found that likes do not have a significant impact on the video overall. Watch time above 70% on a 30+ second video is fairly decent, though the same percentage on a 15-second video is seemingly below average.

Joseph, my TikTok only does well in my home country even though I'm targeting more Anglophone countries like the US, the UK. How do I fix this or do I need a VPN?
Usually it has to do with your SIM card. For example if you want to target USA, then you should by a usa SIM card because tiktok distributes your content based on your sim

My first 11 months I shot up to 17k pretty quickly and my videos were getting thousands and hundred of thousands of views then come July everything changed my videos at most were 5k and below now the last like 3 months my videos are only getting a few hundred views any guidance would be so helpful thanks bro.

Hey Joseph! Will promoting videos hurt my reach? I tried it, worked wonders and my reach was fine, but suddenly I can’t get over 2k views :/ Is it due to that and when will it get back to normal? :(
I'll be addressing this coming soon. :) Next week's video maybe! In general, my rule of thumb is to stick to organic content until at least 100K fans. I find that TikTok does reduce the native in-app reach when businesses start going down the pay-to-play route on TikTok.
If anyone is wondering, the views are back to normal if not better. But now I‘m scared to promote again. Waiting for your video first, Joseph :)

Oh gosh, that's too bad. Sometimes it's not necessarily the content itself (even though it has good intentions), but the contention or clash in the comments section between audiences, which is unfortunate. TikTok is increasing the importance of the audience having non-agressive replies, so creators are having to be more vigilant in what keywords they do or do not allow.
