- Testing flight hardware on Earth before sending it into space is essential for a successful space mission.
Therefore, extensive testing is performed in both real and virtual test environments.
The hybrid lab shown in this video merges both worlds where the digital twin of the real lab is well synchronized in the spatio-temporal domain.
The resulting hybrid testbed enables a seamless transition from virtual to real test environments as well as comprehensive validation of simulated components making the virtual test environment even more reliable.
In this specific scenario Jena-Optronik's RVS3000-3D Lidar sensor approaches a mockup of the International Docking Adapter (IDA) on a spiral trajectory to systematically test it's pose estimation algorithms very systematically for all relevant scenarios. Once the tests have been passed and the simulated components have been validated, further tests are performed in a more realistic virtual environment, where the Lidar approaches the IDA over large distances in a full-scale approach to the virtual ISS.
