Notice the distinct lack of dislike for Selby in the comments here. This content clearly only brings in the snooker fans with a deep interest in the game rather than your weekend warriors who think every shot must be played aggressively or the game is crap. Selby is a genius with a cue and it's very refreshing to see so many people here who appreciate his work too.

Excellent observation about his sighting and moving his head.
I don’t think he gets enough credit for his technique, it is absolutely incredible how straight he delivers the cue. And what amazes me the most is how many matches you can see his back hand trembling from nerves yet he still pots the balls.
He might not be the most entertaining to watch, but for me he is definitely the best post-class-of-‘92 player.

One thing i think you missed on Selby. When he was younger his bridge hand was much further away from the cue ball than it is now. He brought it forward a few inches so that he was closer. And this also happened to coincide with a marked improvement to his long game - which when he first started out was definitely the weaker part of his game. Now of course he is a monster on the table and is probably the best match player the game has ever seen. He doesnt have the flair of Trump or O Sullivan. But his tactical awareness and ability to play under pressure is unparalleled IMO.

_One thing i think you missed on Selby. When he was younger his bridge hand was much further away from the cue ball than it is now. He brought it forward a few inches so that he was closer._
Ronnie used to have a longer bridge too and he has also shortened it.
_Now of course he is a monster on the table and is probably the best match player the game has ever seen_
      Along with John Higgins.
_He doesnt have the flair of Trump or O Sullivan._
And that's why I would never play to watch him. He's a boring grinder and he's also a cheat.
_But his tactical awareness and ability to play under pressure is unparalleled IMO._
Again, John Higgins is on par with him in this department.

Selby has the most patience, grit and determination probably of any player that's ever played the game and I admire him hugely. I'm a Neil Robertson fan mostly and I think Robbo has the most ability other than o Sullivan and Hendry so to hear him moaning about the length of world championship matches this week is embarrassing and I wish he'd take a leaf out of Selby's book.

Definitely my favourite snooker player. 👍 Good to see him win another world title and he's back to number 1, courtesy of a Judd Trump loss to Elliot Slessor at the British Open. How long he'll be back to number 1 is unknown but doesn't really matter because he's so good he has nothing to prove.

For me, he used to move much more on the shot earlier in his career than he does now. In the last 3 or 4 years you can see the head movement is much less. It was obvious before.
Like bridge hands and shot drills, I just take the view that if it works for a particular player then don’t change it for change’s sake.

I might actually try this. I'm also right handed and left eye dominant. And I use to fail on fairly straight shots cause of not cueing straight 🤷🏼‍♂️ basically it's either cue straight but lining up wrong or line up the shot correctly and not cue straight for me. Same. I'm right handed and left eye dominant. Sighting is a struggle. Putting my dominant eye over the stick is too unnatural. The last 2 decades, I find myself winking each eye once or twice on important shots to understand the parallax. Now, I sometimes do a small right/left head movement like Mark. If I ignore the parallax, I am often doomed to accidentally hit the left side of the cue ball or send it a couple millimeters off line to the object ball. Making matters worse, I'm not sure my stroke is straight, but that might be correlated with my sighting. I'm Fargo 588.

I do the same thing. I’m right handed and left eye dominate. It’s about tunneling in the brain. The two balls straighten out like a line in the imaging of the brain and then I adjust the defection of the cut. David Alcaide does the same thing. It may have to do with my Asperger’s.
For example, imagine you have a laser in the tip of your pool stick that passes through the cue ball onto the rail behind the object ball, when I move I can see that laser relation to the rail, object ball and pocket. Before I move down into the shot I have a close estimation of the cut angle to the pocket and if it is less than 30°I know my brain sees the pocket to the left and over 30° to the right.

He may have had a "top" regarding moving in his early Pro years. I remember (I think 😁) that Mark commented on this years ago when asked about the movement. He did move more and tried to get completely still on shot, but it didn't work well for him so he settled for less movement rather that textbook superstill.
This is purely from my poor memory, I can't find the interview since I can't remember what year it was or who interviewed him.

Maybe he is right handed but left eye dominant like me. I sorta do the same thing. I look at my shot behind the table, determine the shot I wanna make and then look at the straight angle or the angle I need with spin. Then I line up my cue and cue ball to the line I determined is right for the shot, I get down and look at the cue and cue ball then I align my dominant eye with the shot line and object ball itself with my dominant eye. So I literally do the same thing as him, BUT I honestly have no idea if that's why he does it.

I don't really understand why you are assuming that this way of sighting the shot is simply what is best for him and not a 'bad habit'. It makes sense that his left eye is his more dominant eye, but maybe this his how he calibrates his aim. In any case, you don't lose the potential to learn at 18 or 30 or whatever.
I think it's more likely this is just efficient for him in spite of appearing rather odd.
