  • U.S. Army Soldiers from the Illinois Army National Guard firing TOW missiles at mock targets at Range 19 on Fort McCoy, WI. The 33D IBCT TOW crews conducted training on the M41A7 ITAS system to include system descriptions, target engagement, far-target location (FTL) capabilities, Crew Commands, PMCS, and Missile capabilities.
    ITAS’s second-generation forward-looking infrared sensors double the long-range surveillance of its predecessor, the M220 TOW system. ITAS offers improved hit probability with aided target tracking, improved missile flight software algorithms and an elevation brake to minimize launch transients. The system includes an integrated far-target location (FTL) capability (day-and-night sight with laser rangefinder), a position attitude determination subsystem, a fire-control subsystem, a Li-ion battery power source and a modified traversing unit. Soldiers can also detect and engage long-range targets with TOW Missiles or, using the ITAS FTL enhancement, direct other fires to destroy them. The FTL enhancement consists of a position attitude determination subsystem that provides the gunner with his own GPS location and a 10-digit grid location to his target through the use of differential GPS. With the PAQ-4/PEQ-2 Laser Pointer, ITAS can designate .50 Caliber or MK-19 grenade engagements. The ITAS can fire all versions of the TOW Family of Missiles.
    The ITAS Image Enhancement Modification Kit reduces operator workload by optimizing the image presented to the gunner through electronic processing. Electronic focus, image stabilization, and other processing techniques ensure that the image presented is optimized for the environment without manual manipulation of the various adjustment settings. ITAS operates from the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, the dismount tripod platform and Stryker anti-tank guided missile vehicles.

    A weapon designed in the Cold War to destroy Soviet tanks will now be used by a former Soviet state against Russian Tanks. We live in interesting times.

    So those wires help control the rocket during mid flight to stay on target or to follow a moving target right? And how far do those wires go?

    • @geoffhoweth
      @geoffhoweth 7 лет назад +2

      Yes you are right about the wires and they can go up to 4,500 m

    the army really should round up all of the hideous ucp gear and strictly field multicam although I will admit it does seem to blend in to snow fairly well, but a better option would be to just adopt the other three variants of multicam just to have a little more uniformity

    • @valiant545
      @valiant545 7 лет назад

      UCP actually worked pretty well in the mountains of Afghanistan. A lot of the terrain is nothing but loose, small grey rock. I say we keep a few of them around but ultimately phase them out. Snow multicam would be just way too white for the mountains.

    The videogames and war are no so diferents each other nowadays. The vision that have the soldier is very close to a videogame view more than to the eye view.

    That's some expensive training, unless there shooting older variants near the end of their service life. I know in my squadron, the cavs scouts in their Bradley's never shot tows on the range as a standard. They only shot 25mm and 7.62mm.

      Moving or not it doesnt matter, the missile follows wherever the crosshairs go... its wire guided. Either the gunner can guide the missile or you can set track gates so then the saber will track the heat signature and guide the missile on

      А ты попробуй запусти! Ответка быстро прилетит! Пока россияне живут в бедности и тешат свое самолюбие возможностью всех уничтожить, запад живет своей жизнью, производит инновации в электронике, технике, автомобилях, а в России кладут асфальт на снег и пилят бабло на космодроме "Распильный" и стадионе "Распил-арена". К тому же российские ракеты столкнутся с препятствием в виде ЗРК Patriot и THAAD. Не факт что у России вообще есть боеспособное ядерное оружие, может это вообще бутафория лишь для запугивания.

    • @domassck
      @domassck 7 лет назад +3

      В принципе ты прав, ущербные бедные страны всегда гавкают на успешные и богатые. Ситуация у России и США такая же, как между Россией и Украиной. Бедная маленькая собачонка гавкает на большую Россию. Но сразу же обосрётся при серьёзном конфликте. Но у России есть хотя бы потенциальная возможность нанести противнику неприемлемый ущерб. А Украина просто будет стёрта с лица Земли.

      MR TRIP But despite its smallness, it is strong

    • @andrewryan1203
      @andrewryan1203 7 лет назад +8

      Ziad Bentouila you are trying to classify 2 totally different things.
      RPG max effective range is 400m and at that range it's 75% chance to miss but can be carried by a foot soldier and used
      Tow is guided no guessing it's slow but the range and accuracy is unmatched it has to be mounted to work
      If you want to compare the RPG to anything the AT-4 is a better comparison than a TOW
      AT4 is still better than the RPG it's light it's accurate and after it's used you just dump the whole thing so your not carrying a 10 pound steel tube all day.

    • @joeditz48

      You are an idiot. Tow missiles have a 5.5 inch diameter warhead than can penetrate well over 2ft of cold rolled homogeneous steel. RPGs have little baby shape charges that dont even come close. Also tow missiles can hit out to 4100m while being guided the whole way. RPGs dont even come close
