  • After 5 days of snowshoeing across the Fulufjället plateau (using our packrafts as pulkas), and 30 km of nearly continuous class II-III rapids earlier in the day on the river Görälven (also known as Ljøra in Norwegian), we arrive at the village of Ljørdalen. At this location, the character of the river changes abruptly. Water becomes nearly flat and the riverbed widens to an extreme extent, as all lowlands around Ljørdalen appear to be flooded.
We enjoy beautiful sunlit landscapes as well as the peace and quiet of the river. Quite a contrast to the whitewater excitement earlier in the day. One of the highlights is paddling through flooded birch and pine woods.
We eventually make camp close to the hamlet of Årkåsa and tuck in after 40 km of paddling, which is not too bad given that we only got started around 11:30 am.
