I always forget how creepy the Genocide route is, and then Sans says shit like "are you just gonna keep starin' at me?" and "my brother'd really like to see a human, so it'd really help me out if you kept pretending to be one." and i have to the pause the video and take a shower to scrub off the metaphorical dust
My favourite part of this game is how a simple shift in context can change the meaning of entire scenes

if you did genocide then true pacifist you get the “soulless pacifist” ending with two separate conclusions: if you stay with Toriel, the same last scene plays where she leaves pie in the middle of the night, but your eyes glow red and it cuts off, or if you don’t stay with Toriel, where a picture of everyone appears, with all the faces crossed out and Frisk replaced by Chara. it’s chilling.
It's even freakier considering that Chara is long dead and doesnt have a soul anymore, it's just kinda their essence animating someone else's body
Chara is just reminding you that you killed them in past timeline so that you'll feel terrible. They're basically your haunting demon.

I tried to play the genocide run myself, but Papyrus' death shook me up so much that I reset and did another pacifist run. I mean... Guys... Even after you freaking kill him, he says that he still believes in you. He still thinks that there's a good person deep inside of you. He's the kindest and most innocent character in the whole game, and when he comes face-to-face with a psycho little serial killer, he OFFERS THEM A HUG AND HIS FRIENDSHIP. HE'S THE PUREST FUCKING CINNAMON ROLL AND HIS DEATH HURT ME SO MUCH.

Apparently, “That comedian” doesn’t mean Sans.
It says that if you haven’t killed Snowdrake (the comedian enemy) yet. It’s basically reminding you “hey you still need to kill the comedian”
A lot of people associate it with Sans but the fact that it’s actually even more specific to your actions I find pretty fun.
That is interesting, I never knew that.

I actually realized that instantly since I watched a bunch of RUclipsrs play the game after I finished it. Etika was the first one I watched (Rest in Peace) and he was practically attached to every single character and enemy, Snowdrake being one of the most memorable from his streams

I love undertale SO much, its one of my favourite games of all time. But i still, even in 2022, cannot bring myself to do a genocide run. Even watching someone else play still makes me feel so guilty and knowing that Sans basically knows whats going on, and he tells you that, sends shivers up my spine.

I actually started crying when papyrus died, all he wanted to do was help :(( after watching the pacifist root it’s so hard seeing the main characters I love die (I literally just finished it right before I started watching)

Notice how when you look in the mirror at yourself in pacifist it says: "It's you!"
While in Genocide it says: "It's *me* Chara."
So in Genocide the game takes away the friendly narrative, and makes it more about the literal character, Chara's perspective.
It's almost as though Chara has killed the narrator and just taken over everything.
Well, it's because Chara IS the narrator. In all routes. You as the player is a guide to them and, depending on what route you take, you show Chara what is a right thing to do: to kill or to show mercy.

@@fallenhuman2081 Saying "Chara possesses the protagonist" is just a way to drop the burden of responsibility for the Genocide route from yourself to Chara. Most of the time you are the one in control, so it's you who's killing everyone. Well, but that's just my interpretation. You are open to have your point of view on all of this.

There are so many ways to interpret the whole story and structure but one could see it as: you, the player is outside of the story, and Chara possesses Frisk; making them kill everyone. I know it's the player doing it but... does depend on how you want to see it I guess.

This is a clearly a well thought out comment to make sure of getting the narrative easy for younger people to read, and interesting enough for more mature people to read, all while explaining a darker subject, which I personally enjoy. I, as well as some others, appreciate the fact that not everyone makes comments about the current year, or about specific foreshadowing done purposely by Jack, for he explains near the end of the series that he knew this was going to happen. Thank you for allowing me to likely waste your time writing this, but I appreciate the thought behind this comment.

I'd like to point out that in non-genocide routes, Papyrus asks if you're a human and Sans confirms it, however in the genocide route, Sans only says you're not a rock, completely avoiding calling you a human in any sort of way.

it’s funny how different ppl interpret their voices. for example, i think of flowery as having a very childish pre-pubescent voice since he died as a young asriel. i also think of sans as having just a normal chill not too low, not too high voice. it’s funny how jack gives him a grainy, low, sort of new york accent. papyrus is spot on tho
well, that wasn't what Sans' voice was gonna be, originally. it had more of a Patrick star sound to it at first. but he changed it because people were telling him that it made Sans sound dumb.

Sans is literally working at every single one of his sentry stations, selling hotdogs etc, working in his basement occasionally or studying, and hell he even a royal council judge responsible on judging fallen humans actions throughout their journey.
And he used to be one of the Royal scientists too, apparently. If I remember correctly, you can find a pic of sans and a group of other people in a lab all together. There were other things in that room too

When you read the ending of the ancient writings at waterfall, it says "one day, an 'angel' will come down, and clear the underground". That suggests that they could be killing everyone, or freeing everyone from the Underground.

What I love about the genocide route is that it ties into the theme of Undertale, about how everything you do has consequences. It's supposed to be a subversion of your expectations, since anybody playing an RPG wouldn't give a second thought about killing enemies they encounter. So what about people who want to grind and get the absolute most money and XP? That's where genocide comes in. You're not just some completionist gamer who wants to max out all their stuff, you're a sociopathic murderer that wants to get rid of every single monster in the underground. Just fucking brilliant.
