Regarding stinky shoes due to being barefoot; I slip a no-show sock over my insoles and wash them just as I would my regular socks. Absolutely cuts down on the stink and is more comfortable. Great video!
Thank you. Just to let you know, velcro isn't great if you have a high instep. Most shoe manufacturers who make velcro straps, don't make them long enough for those of us who have a high instep.😊 A strap with a buckle works better, because it doesn't come apart when you're walking.
I’ve had problems with Velcro not sticking on one particular shoe (earth shoe Mary Jane which happened to be my favorite travel shoe at the time), so I’m always hesitant to purchase them.
Hokas are awesome. They are my running shoe. I have zero arches and they have saved my feet, back, and legs. No, they aren’t waterproof, but I would wear them on a plane for travel. They are also light, not heavy like typical running shoes.
I agree! There's nothing worse than grossly uncomfortable feet. My opinion is, bargain hunt for many things, EXCEPT shoes! Mine are now very expensive...especially after extensive foot re-construction surgery!
You are so right! If shoes don’t fit or feel good they aren’t worth a dollar! Vionics are also a good brand. On a recent trip I wore my comfortable white tennis shoes for air travel. Never again, I couldn’t believe how filthy they got!😮 Airports are dirty!
I’m always on the hunt for a no show sock that isn’t bulky & doesn’t slip off my foot. I used to wear Bombas but my daughter introduced me to Ondo. They’re thin so they don’t make your shoe feel tighter & they stay on! They even make a style for wearing with ballet flats.
Love Ondo. I also have the IDEGG socks that are thicker than Ondos but not as thick as Bombas. Some of them wear just as well as my Ondis, and some slipped off my heel. Ondis merino socks are winners!
Peds has a wonderful type that is great under running style shoes or trainers. They are a high cut, but no show - sold at Target (only two pair, I think) Amazon (six pair) and the Peds website. Nothing stays up better, and they feel great. Other Peds are styled for other shoe types and are also good, but these are the best.
I recommend getting your insole before getting the shoe so you can try the shoe on with the insole. So often, once you put the insole in, the shoe either no longer fits or isn't comfortable anymore. You need to try them together in case you need to go up a size once the insole is in.
I just bought the Ecco gold slip ons for my trip to Egypt. I will look for those sandals. I always take out the insert and use Dr Scholl’s inserts. They are a game changer
My youngest daughter is going on an art trip to France and Spain with her school next year. I have been finding so many great ideas for packing light in the few videos I have watched of yours so far, and I am so glad you have posted this one. We will definitely be looking at shoes soon to find a pair that will suit her for all the walking they will be doing, and we will start with your suggestions. Here's hoping I get picked to go with as a chaperone!!
I’ve worn Ecco sneakers on my last several trips to Europe, and they were perfect for walking all day with support and still looking sleek and stylish. They even work with a casual dress. They are more expensive, but as someone who has foot issues, they are worth it for the quality and comfort! They are my favourite travel shoe now. And for sandals, I love Taos sandals for the same reason - comfort and good support. Thanks for this video!
I bought my Vessi's (gray, pull on) when my cruise landed me in N.Y. the last week of November 2019. Being unsure what the weather would be I wanted something that would be warm, comfortable and water proof and these fit the bill perfectly. Great for excursions too. They were the only sneaker type shoe I packed and am still wearing them today - as long as the snow stops and the drifts don't get any higher 😅.
I’m a shoe-a-holic! My feet don’t give me trouble on vacations…..but I loved this video and shoe suggestions. Great suggestions for preventing foot problems while traveling. Thx so much!
Thanks for the tips. I love all your shoes but sadly I don't have enough room for too many shoes on our sailboat, our home. So the plus is that helps me packing too. Thanks your help. Safe travels ❤️🙏🤗
I swear by Vionic! And OOFA! Both are Awesome for High Arches! Which I have...and very tiny feet with egyptian-shaped toes. I also love the cariuma shoes. Got the All-Camel brown line of shoes (3 pairs). I plan to wear that color all year-round! And Teva Sandles are great. So are Birkenstocks! Just got Vessi and are trying them. Also got some Kiziks to try out.
Shoes, oh they can be problematic! On a European trip I ended up throwing out all but 1 pair of shoes because they hurt terribly. Then I bought a pair of Ecco sneaker-type shoes, and that taught me a lesson. No matter how good a shoe feels in the store, that’s no guarantee on real life comfort - those Ecco’s were quickly donated to charity. Always wear the shoes around on different surfaces and take time, if necessary, to break them in. My favorite travel shoes now are Taos Dandy, slip on, neutral color, lovely arch support. Laurie, thanks for all your tips!
I use a shoe liner in basic flats when I don’t use a sock. They have a coconut fiber bottom with soft top. They are not supportive but can lay over a support and fully washable. Great for keeping my shoes clean smelling.
I swear by my Merrells that are waterproof and have good traction and good arch support when you are going to be walking all day. I also like my Ryka slip ons for just being out and about and that go with anything including a dress.
Clown shoes! lol, I am only 5’3”. But wear a size 10! Therefore I rarely wear sneakers unless they are Keds, and they are not supportive. Such a struggle to find comfortable supportive shoes that don’t look rediculous on me, and so I am very grateful for your shoe videos!
I bought some Vessis and they are waterproof. I also bought a pair of black leather Ecco booties like your suede ones and with neuropathy from nerve damage in both feet, they’re very comfortable.
Thank you for this, Laurie! My mom and I were talking about shoes to wear for our Alaska cruise in September and this has helped. I have treated my Hokas with waterproofing spray and worn them in downpours successfully. Happy and safe travels!!
I lived in Alaska. September is a rainy / windy season in Alaska. Bring your raincoats, warm clothing, and warm socks. Welcome to Alyeska. Land of the Polar Bears USA!.
I have that first pair in navy. They were really comfortable in the store, but after a couple of hours (mostly driving, some getting out and walking around stores), I had a lot of pain in my feet. I guess I have weird shaped feet! Same with those Soft 7 suede bootie style sneakers. Hard to fit feet is a real curse! The only shoes I have that don't hurt after wearing them a long time are 20 year old Clarks sandals - although newer Clarks sandals also hurt. I do find the Ecco inserts comfortable though, so I use them in all my cheaper shoes.
Sadly, it took wearing for a day outside the house. They can't be returned after being worn outside. Now I am wearing them an hour or so a day, hoping that eventually they will mold to my foot and be more comfortable.@@TravelTipsbyLaurie
I had a pair of those same Cariuma sneakers. I wanted to love them, they were so cute, but they were too heavy for me for walking all day. Live and learn I guess. Love your videos!
RE: Footbed insets: I only use arch support inserts instead of full foot inserts as they often make the shoes feel too cramped (especially in the toe area). It also eliminates the problem of the heel slipping off the shoe. Dr. Scholls has clear ones that can even be inconspicuously added to even sandals. These are a game changer.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Hope you give them a try. They have greatly broadened the shoe styles I can wear as I need the arch support. You can get them in clear so they do not show in sandals. Love them.
I love my Oofos. Lightweight and can be washed in the washer and set out to dry. I spray mine off with the waterhose. My feet never hurt, nor do my calves ever ache from walking long distances.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie hands down the best shoe I have ever worn. The sole and arch can take some getting used to so I always recommend getting the slides or the flip flops to get a feel for the footbed. I have rheumatoid arthritis and jog a 5k in them every day. I’ve also walked 25-30k steps a day at Disney World in them. I will say if you have chubby feet and/or ankles or your feet/ankles swell a lot by the end of the day, the shoes may not be good for those people.
I have incredibly picky feet. Thanks for the tips and fire the contents on frumpy. I work Hokas to Spain and I hate the way the look in photos, so big, so clunky!
I went to Scotland and in Edinburgh, the shoes I wore at home that I thought were comfortable ended up not being at all! By the end of one day O could barely stand on my feet! I had to buy a pair of Clarks but it was too late. We are going back in September and this repeat situation is my biggest fear!!
I’m looking at possibly getting some WHITE Ecco tennis shoes…I love my Taos but I want water resistant so my cute white fabric ones are out and the Taos leather ones are a bit too heavy to be taking…I saw a pair of Ecco’s this past weekend and they seem lighter than my Taos. I’m also taking my Tevas and flip flops.
I used to love Ecco, they were so comfortable and didnt even need breaking in, wore them almost immediately for 2 weeks in Europe and they were amazing. However I bought a replacement pair when my old pair finally started fall apart, and the new ones are not confortable at all even after a break in period, very stiff and thinner insole. Have you come across this issue with more recent Ecco purchases?
I have to buy men’s Ecco sneakers to get them to fit me well enough to wear socks with. I have big feet, women’s size 11, and the Eccos run small in my experience. Too bad. The women’s colors are cuter than the men’s…
Hi, all links are in the first comment and description paragraph. Not amazon. I do not know the ones you are talking about but I have these: bit.ly/3X2VWTW and these: bit.ly/3vVST4v
I travel regularly and always travel with a pair of flip flops. They take up no space at all and it doesn't matter where you stay (AirBnB, Hotel etc), the floors are disgusting and while they may vacuum regularly, they don't deep clean the carpets between stays and you don't know what the person/people before you did/spilt on the carpets. And for bathroom floors - have you ever seen a housekeeping trolley with a mop and bucket? That's because the floors are mostly 'cleaned' with the towels from the bathroom. The shower is cleaned with shower cleaner but the bathroom floors are only really spot cleaned. So I wear my flip flops in my hotel room as well as on my way to the pool. And yes, I used to work in hospitality for the 5 star hotels so I know how the floors are cleaned
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie thank you. We’re headed to Italy this Sunday and I can’t seem to find a comfortable cute shoe to wear with skirts and pants. Do you feel they need a break in period? And, we will get in many steps as you know…..so they are an all day shoe?
@@liebet9491 Okay don't quote me on this but Ecco has never needed breaking in. I do think this fabric is stiffer than the other ones like the white one or black one. And the suede ones fit differently, but they are all the same name. I would gamble on the blush ones though. You may want to consider inserts that I wore with my On Cloud waterproof ones in April: amzn.to/4bIdby1
Do you think you could find some shoes that are between $55.00 and $85. Some people don't even want to spend that amount of money, and yes, they do travel
Hi Sue. I haven’t found any yet but I recommend going to DSW or any store and trying some on that are in your budget. Did you look at the new ones I have updated?
I'm looking for clown shoes, as I have the opposite problem, as I'm a true size 5.5 Some of my shoes look like a "clown punching bag" (tiny base with a big ole body) My tip is provided by my husband....."If you're going to keep following Laurie you have to order what you want quickly & then return if it doesn't fit " 🤗
@@TravelTipsbyLaurieoh no ! Hope he figures it out My son got snookered into the military by his then "girlfriend". So long story short, she would recruit guys and paid for her car. Imagine being at basic training & your battle buddy is getting mail from the same "girlfriend" True story. ( she was a recruiter, then a chaplain in the Army) Good riddance !
I have narrow feet and swear by OluKai’s shoes. Great flip flops, boots, tennis shoes and all types of sandals. Great arch support in all their styles.
I know there is a specific no show sock you like but I don’t remember what it is. Would you please tell me what it is or point me to the video where you discussed it? I am so tired of buying socks that won’t stay on my heels!
Hi, the one that I never adjust does not come over the top of my foot which I do not want for sneakers. It's bit.ly/3uYswL7 and then this is my second favorite and for sneakers but they're hard to find now: bit.ly/4bVCzRF
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Thanks so much for getting back to me and for mentioning that the first ones aren’t good for sneakers since that’s what I am wanting them for. The second link, unfortunately, is for an Americana assortment and I need white. So the search continues but I do appreciate you trying to help!
The biggest difficutly is that many shoes these days are made whole sizes or european size. Shoes like reef have an arch that doesn't fit me because I need a true half in size. It's so disappointing.
I am looking for a waterproof shoe, bone spurs and plantar fasciitis as well. Some shoes just hurt my feet. But I’m wondering about keen shoes, have you try them out?
I have heard that the inserts are really good for people with plantar issues. Do flat feet need arch support? My main tip is to pack at least one shoe that is water resistant like this one maybe: bit.ly/3SZCeWG
That is for sure, but please consider that what I have found with my Ecco shoes is that although they are pricer up front, they are actually much more economical and cheaper in the long run. They last much longer than cheaper shoes - at least twice as long. The support does not diminish as cheaper shoes can. (My feet now require excellent support or I will pay in foot pain.) Plus, their appearance looks much good longer.
Not every one is a pilot wife not everyone e can afford 150.dollar shoes. Skechers are good choices for alot of people. They do have arch support and come in many different styles and colors. Ecco brand may be your choice but are not the only choice Please try to remember not every person on here can afford Talbott. Ecco. Etc thank you
Just to let you know. The affiliate links to sell the products that you are speaking about are very annoying. The placement is bad and they are very big so they cover up a lot of the videos. I hope this helps. I just really wanted to let you know.😊
If the insoles of your shoes come out, take it out and put a no show sock on the insole upside down ( hole on the bottom).. put it back in shoe. Saves you insoles and make feet comfy with no extra bulk. Remove, wash, reuse.
Re: shoelaces, I replace any cloth shoelaces with silicone no tie “laces.” They are waterproof, but the real reasons I change them out is to make my shoes slip on (which has been great at airports) and the look is cleaner without a bow or any ends sticking out. Also the shoe inserts (by Powerstep) are fabulous. My podiatrist recommended those to me years ago so I wear them every day. They last for several years with daily use! Thanks for sharing so many great suggestions.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie They go in all my shoes: Ecco’s, Clark’s, Allegria, Sam Edelman, even all my Miller and Ben tap shoes! All of them are flat shoes, mostly sneakers, loafers or oxfords. I also put them in some of my boots…Blondo, Dansko come to mind.
Thanks for the tip about Ecco Soft 7 sneakers. I needed something water-resistant for my upcoming trip to Europe. I enjoy your channel and all your travel tips!

Put baking soda in your shoes when you take them off. It's great at absorbing smells!

Just don't forget to shake it out before you put the shoes on again!
Put deodorant on your feet.

Enjoy Alaska. We are more beautiful than Switzerland!.
Yes, if you do not love them, return them.
Sadly, it took wearing for a day outside the house. They can't be returned after being worn outside. Now I am wearing them an hour or so a day, hoping that eventually they will mold to my foot and be more comfortable.@@TravelTipsbyLaurie
Just discovered this channel. Love the travel tips. Very informative and really appreciate the ideas.
Hi and welcome!
I had a pair of those same Cariuma sneakers. I wanted to love them, they were so cute, but they were too heavy for me for walking all day. Live and learn I guess. Love your videos!
Yes always live and learn.
Thank you, Laurie, so much💜
Thanks!
Literally what I’ve been shopping for! Thank you!
Same here!
Right, that pair I showed that kept slipping out would not let me take out the original sole.
@@TravelTipsbyLaurie Hope you give them a try. They have greatly broadened the shoe styles I can wear as I need the arch support. You can get them in clear so they do not show in sandals. Love them.
Oh nice! With the 2 I showed, I should be good. @@gardenhappy4
I like your tips. What shoes for two days June 2-3 in Iceland in June, and two weeks in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales in the first weeks in June
Just ordered the Ecco shoe for my Portugal trip in Nov!
Oh wow, Portugal is on my bucket list.
Love love Ecco!
I love my Oofos. Lightweight and can be washed in the washer and set out to dry. I spray mine off with the waterhose. My feet never hurt, nor do my calves ever ache from walking long distances.
Oh I have not tried that shoe.
I have had plantar fasciitis. I have used both Taos and Vionic brands for travel to Europe and they are really great too.
Vionic brand was best for me working on my feet all day.
Same and I have also found that Taos shows are great.
Great tips! Thanks Laurie!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for all the good tips.
Wanting the first Ecco’s and the hookas. I’m type 2 diabetic and extremely picky.
I just bought a pair of Vessi’s for the Med!
I have incredibly picky feet. Thanks for the tips and fire the contents on frumpy. I work Hokas to Spain and I hate the way the look in photos, so big, so clunky!
I hear ya!
You should! And don’t miss the shoe insert idea if they do not work. But I do love my retro street ones!!!
Mine have been fine-the low sneakers. Blue sneaker boot is still wonderful.
Inserts are the Best!!!
Have you ever tried NAOT shoes? I find their sandals the most comfortable for walking a lot on vacation.
Hi, I have seen them.
I am one of those that Eccos are not comfortable unfortunately with us gals that have bunions. Eccos do not have a wide toe box.
I have to buy men’s Ecco sneakers to get them to fit me well enough to wear socks with. I have big feet, women’s size 11, and the Eccos run small in my experience. Too bad. The women’s colors are cuter than the men’s…
You must try Vessi’s if you haven’t already!!
Love your necklace, where can I get one?
Hi, it should be linked in the first comment. We cannot put links in the vertical videos but in these we can.
I.have those same Hokas. Walked on the cruise.
Love these for walking all day or on a cruise!
I used to wear Merrells but for some reason the innersoles have gotten harder and bother my feet. My feet perfer Skeechers with the yoga innersoles.
Hoka Goretex Speedgoats for waterproof. Crazy colors but they are great and grippy.
Thanks!
I slip extra long panty liners (without peeling the backing to protect the shoes). Works like a charm every time.
What’s the brand of your waterproof sandals you featured? I looked on Amazon n can’t find it. Thank you
Hi, all links are in the first comment and description paragraph. Not amazon. I do not know the ones you are talking about but I have these: bit.ly/3X2VWTW and these: bit.ly/3vVST4v
I love the look of those eccos, but can't afford them
Totally understand; keep looking. I love using free shipping and returns if I do not like a shoe.
Any recommendations for cheaper shoes by any chance? $175 range is too high for mealthough those are cute
I travel mainly with Birkenstocks. I need proper Arch support. They are my only Expensive foot wear
I want to try their new sneakers-never have been able to wear their shoes since the late 80s until last year's sneaks.
I don't actually like Velcro closures on shoes as they often end up scratching me. Only a few seem to be made so they don't scratch at the ankle.
That would not be comfortable.
Two weeks ago I walked through 5 inches of snow with my Hokas and my feet stayed dry!
I did spray them twice with Scotchgard so we shall see.
Yikes
Sketchers slip ons for airport security and a pair of shorties socks.
Ooh I have never tries Shorties. I can only wear Skechers in the airport because they do not have much support.
So good
I can’t find an Ecco shoe in blush? I find a dusty rose, is that the shoe you had on? Thanks.
Yes Rose Dust is the formal name now that I look. Love them!
Ha! Short gals look so cute with big ole shoes! My son's girlfriend who he quit college for looked adorable in them. Now they're broken up,
@@TravelTipsbyLaurieoh no ! Hope he figures it out My son got snookered into the military by his then "girlfriend". So long story short, she would recruit guys and paid for her car. Ha! Girls lol@@wandrousvindella716
How about Ecco sandals? Super comfortable and supporter
Hi yes! I have not found one I love.
It is too bad that they don't make those Ecco shoes in wide.
Any recommendations for travel shoe for *narrow* feet? You are the best. My travel mantra? WWLD?
Ha! I did like Munroe Sutton sneaker but they are uber $$$
I have narrow feet and swear by OluKai’s shoes. Great flip flops, boots, tennis shoes and all types of sandals. Great arch support in all their styles.
Have you seen a new Swiss brand ON? Really comfortable
Hi, no
I know there is a specific no show sock you like but I don’t remember what it is.
I’m never sure when I hear “I only pack 2 pairs of shoes,” if that includes what you’re wearing or just what goes in the suitcase.
Hi, it is only what you pack.
The biggest difficutly is that many shoes these days are made whole sizes or european size. Shoes like reef have an arch that doesn't fit me because I need a true half in size. It's so disappointing.
Keep searching. Like I said I returned sooo many shoes this spring. The Reef do not have an arch imo.
Do you have a link for the Merrill shoe sandal?
Hi it should be in the pinned first comment or in the description paragraph under the video: bit.ly/3XtP4N4
I am looking for a waterproof shoe, bone spurs and plantar fasciitis as well. Some shoes just hurt my feet. But I’m wondering about keen shoes, have you try them out?
Hi, I have not been drawn to them.
What is a good support shoe recommend for cruising for someone with back & knee issues? Or someone who stands long periods of time on concrete floors?
Hi, I would ask your doctor or a foot doctor. I love mine in this video that are all linked.
How do you keep the white sole so clean? Mine get scuffed and the shoes look “dirty.
Well I somehow have a ton of shoes lol. But the Ecco soles stay almost new looking somehow.
What were the tan loafers?
Hi, they are all linked in the first comment and in the paragraph below each video: bit.ly/3ZjmU8U and similar: bit.ly/432tOkH or these bit.ly/4bSlb04
What brand were the pink Velcro sandals?
Hi all links are in the pinned first comment or in the paragraph below each video.
Any recommendations for flat feet ?
I have heard that the inserts are really good for people with plantar issues. Do flat feet need arch support? My main tip is to pack at least one shoe that is water resistant like this one maybe: bit.ly/3SZCeWG
What about men's shoes? Not everyone can spend $175.00 for shoes.
My husband likes the Hey Dudes and Merrells for travel.
❤
Just saw price of ecco sneakers 😂
They are definitely an investment.
Not every one is a pilot wife not everyone e can afford 150.dollar shoes. Skechers are good choices for alot of people. They do have arch support and come in many different styles and colors. Ecco brand may be your choice but are not the only choice
Please try to remember not every person on here can afford Talbott. Ecco. Etc thank you
Yes, choose shoes that fit your budge and needs. Did you try the inserts I showed?
i highly doubt that first shoes has any support just by looking at it.
That is what I thought but it actually does. I cannot wear Skechers fyi. I am a shoe snob for comfort and support. These were great!
Most comfortable shoes ever….. no need to break them in… Paul Green shoes!
I broke down and got a supportive pair of Birkenstocks, in a narrow and they hurt my feet. All that money down the drain.
Make sure you have free shipping. I cannot wear Birks that you slide on. Have you tried the Ecco I listed in the first comment of links?
Just to let you know. The affiliate links to sell the products that you are speaking about are very annoying. The placement is bad and they are very big so they cover up a lot of the videos. I hope this helps. I just really wanted to let you know.😊
Hi, thanks! If you see the 3 dots, I think you can remove them. It is less annoying if you can cast it to the tv or watch on a laptop.
Ryka. Comfortable and affordable. Ryka.
How I wish comfortable shoes were stylish.
Keep trying!
I find these waterproof shoes make my feet sweat. Not good for lots of walking.
Ooh, which ones should we avoid?
If the insoles of your shoes come out, take it out and put a no show sock on the insole upside down ( hole on the bottom).. put it back in shoe. Saves you insoles and make feet comfy with no extra bulk. Remove, wash, reuse.
I love that travel hack! Thanks.
What shoes do you put your inserts in? I have the laces; just have not used them enough.
So glad! @@vickif.4645
