But all i can say is when music is this good, saying Matt Gartska is "Tosin Abasi's" drummer is extremely inacurate.
Javier Reyes, Matt Gartska and Tosin Abasi are on the same level and together they form AAL, not to mention they have other works on thier own....
I see amazing artists like this and wonder if hey are even capable of playing a song without ghost noting the snare. Like, how would Matt even sound on a “normal” song. Would the feeling be there? I like to think so.
When I hear Matt’s ghost notes, every single one seems purposeful, like it’s a written in part. I know he improvs a lot live but there’s definitely some key rhythms in the ghosts in certain Animals As Leaders songs. He would absolutely murder a more “simple” track I feel, even if the part was simple
Check out Matt's channel in the early days, he has even played in some country bands where he is playing very simple music, but still very much in the pocket
