I ask because when I went to buy the GZR set, the seller warned me that the bridge pickup cavity on some Squier PJs is too narrow for the GZR J. Yours obviously was not. Thanks!

I just acquired a mid 90’s strings and things custom that I found locally and I had the ex owner of strings & things music store in Memphis set it up..... these are going in it next week! Awesome video man!
Sounds really good, like a classic Fender PJ but with a lot more juice, I quite like it. The slap tone sounds like it could really fit some RATM or Tim Commerford stuff. Cheers.
Thats such a great sound! Especially when only using the P Pickups with the pick! Such great tone man! This video might sold me on the GZR P Pickups as I'm torn between them and the Dimarzio Model P Pickups.
Go with the Geezer's.. they're based on what was in those P-Bass's he was using back in the day to get those great Sabbath tones..to me there are only 2 for my money that capture those great tones from that period..EMG and Seymour Duncan
@@hyperdog67 Agree; I have the Dimarzio's on my 2015 American standard (bought it used that way), which sound more high mid-rangey than these... I'm going to switch them out and sell them in favor of the GZRs...I want warmth, butt with teeth!
I'll tell you who makes pickups that I'm also in love with.. Seymour Duncan! I have a Steve Harris P-Bass that have Duncan's in it, and those sound amazing. I read somewhere that he asked for them to be specially wound for more mids? which seems odd to me considering he's dealing with 3 guitars players!
You're the ONLY one who picked up on that.. pun intended.. good ear. That remains one of the most overlooked, killer bass lines ever recorded for anything.
I did the same as you. I found a great deal online from a guy that never installed his and then I went out and bought a nice Olympic White Squier pbass and put them in. Best thing I ever did. I just need to shave the Squier headstock logo and out a geezer logo there instead!
I have a PJ Alvarez bass that has an inverted P pickup. It's tuned to drop A right now but I want to put these in and set it up for C standard and use it for some sort of bastardized metal/punk hybrid stuff

I'm using the Tech21 1000, through a Marshall 4x10 bass cab..I used to have an Amptweaker bass Tightdrive pedal with the dUg mod.. but the Tech21 smokes it. Thank you for your kind words..
How new are those strings? It sounds really bright for what I'd want on my pj. Also correlating with that question, what drive are you using and What's the treble at on your amp? Loved the video and the playing!! Also I saw the hard luck sticker and got a laugh, I have a Hard Luck Bar nearby and it's kinda wacky lol
The strings are whatever strings came with the bass.. most likely Fender strings. As far as the amp goes, I'm playing through a Tech21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000. Treble set at about 1 o'clock? Drive was set at about 12 o'clock. The sound you're hearing is achieved through bi-amping. Thanks to the genius of Tech21. It's basically guitar amp, and a bass amp blended signals. I'm looking at getting some better pickup's for my bass, but I want to hear what I'm opting for! If it's punch and twangy top end I'm not interested, I'm looking for deep smooth bass sounds, for me I rarely use my j pickup and looking for more deep tonal response, I play reggae n dub, and I think I miss my stienberger active humbuckers, not convinced the P pickup is what I need, but I've been making do for the last 27 years! I think a new set of pickup's could make a huge difference, but is the EMG pj the way to go? Should I try n find some active version of the on or just buy another bass?
OK..now I know what you meant. What I'd do is go with a Steinberger Spirit bass. I did a review of one on my channel..if that's the sound you really liked. Keep in mind with this video of the amp I'm using. I'm playing through a Tech21 dUg Ultra 1000 head, and a Marshall 4x10 bottom. My tone is just what you described. Also, these pickups are based off of a Fender 60's P-Bass. I don't care what genre you're listening to from the 60's 70's ect, if it was done using a P-Bass...it's gonna sound like a P-Bass..you know what I mean? So don't let MY tone throw you off..it's still a P-Bass. But check out the Sprit bass..I owned a Steinberger in the 80's and I don't feel a difference in play? Hope this helps?
Why would you tell someone how to hear? I would NEVER in a million years go to someone's channel, and critique their tone? Tone is like tastebuds.. everyone tastes something slightly different.
I explain in another video that I swapped out the bridge for a Badass 2 bridge.. it's actually an Omega bridge.. the neck is a stock Squier neck.. pay no attention to the stickers on the headstock..
