    This is how you nail atmosphere in a videogame soundtrack.

    Burning Crusade probably had one of the most unique soundtracks I've ever heard in a game. The mixture of fantasy, space ambient, and scifi themes in this track prove my point.

    • @HatsonFGC
      @HatsonFGC 9 лет назад +31

      That's Matt Uelmen for you.
      Sadly, Burning Crusade was the last game he ever worked on with Blizzard. And before that was Diablo 1 and 2 that he composed.
      He is nowhere to be seen on Diablo 3, and its' soundtrack very much reflects that and you can clearly hear the lack of drums / percussions and dark fantasy / asian themed ambience. Instead you get the usual symphonic approach of Blizzard. Which is good and all, but doesn't fit Diablo's spirit at all.
      Jason Hayes is also almost completely out of the picture on Blizzard's compositions. He was the lead composer of Vanilla WoW, composing almost all the zone tracks on it as well as the city themes such as Stormwind and Ironforge.
      He was imo the best composer Blizzard ever had, but after Vanilla you barely ever heard his music again.
      Recently you can hear his brilliant composition works in the DotA 2 Main Theme. Valve definitely wanted that majestic fantasy feel of his style and dota being related to Blizzard and Warcraft, his composition fits DotA 2 perfectly.

    • @HatsonFGC
      @HatsonFGC 9 лет назад +1

      Callum Martin Yeah he has a few, but he was only a lead composer once for Blizzard, which was Vanilla WoW. Which has the best music in all of WoW, imo.
      Just the things on that list you linked there. That's all the best stuff, pretty much.

      You can't deny that Blizzard still has one of the best music in games. WoW and Heroes of the Storm got some really good tracks.
      But yes, this track alone is defining for the Burning Crusade game. Dark, sad, with a hint of hope but also not knowing what lies ahead in this broken, desolate land.
      As an wannabe artist, I find the landscapes of the zones equally outstanding, for being a broken world, blizzard really went deep with the colors of the canvas for each zone.

      +BronzNazareth This is a very great suggestion for any former WoW player. This game filled my formerly dead passion for video games. It has all the addictive little things you need in a video game and even better it requires some help from teammates. The social part of the game and all of the amazing gameplay it has to offer really reminded me of my video game addiction back when World of Warcraft was in its prime. Go to sleep dreaming about it, wake up immediately wanting to play. I miss those times so much
      Path of exile is *the* new World of Warcraft for the time being folks. I don't think another MMO is going to come out to challenge WoW in quite some time.

    My favorite song in all world of warcraft, incredibly nostalgic in the days where the game seemed to be taken seriously by anyone playing. Where setting up a dungeon or raid took hours. In those days people weren't just wow friends. They were REAL friends that you cared for. I miss good old WoW Vanilla and BC....

    • @orlandogloom5409
      @orlandogloom5409 8 лет назад +1

      Don't know about that real friendship part, since, like you said, it was the game that most would take seriously and not the fellow players. But, in any case, those who truly tried to be real friends they should still be like that... they probably just quit, though :/ hopefully doing something greater. Or, you know how it is, they're scattered and not that big in numbers too. On the bright side? they're not extinct ...yet o_O

    • @orlandogloom5409
      @orlandogloom5409 6 лет назад +1

      Ha! Well, since I returned here and decided to read some comments too (didn't remember I'd posted this -- just trying to sleep and wanted to get bored/soothed): I've actually made new friends! So, our own age (and the good ppl who aren't playing anymore) aside, the only difference is the game, yh. Firstly, it just doesn't really feel like a game, and I've been trying to play it "alternatively", not caring about gearing and all endgame stuff (guess what, it doesn't work out how you want to when you're doing it pretty much alone... I blame the players for its state, almost as much as the company, for making it feel like a job in that you have to do this and that in order to progress and not feel left out/behind). Secondly, the world just doesn't feel so vast anymore, there isn't any danger around the corner that can truly surprise you (btw, playing games like noobs is missing, now everyone is a pro and this has also created silly expectations/demands and more toxicity/drama), and you can do sooo much but few don't feel empty. Well, that's all; I hope what I typed makes sense and is cohesive enough, cause I'm basically asleep right now, lol :p

    When I look back on WoW's expansions... TBC is the one that stands out the most for me. So many new features were added. Two new races, and entire world to explore.. Oh and flying mounts! And it was the period of time in the game when I was most active. I have great memories before and after TBC, but TBC was when I was doing my dailies, raiding, doing pvp with nothing holding me back.. Back before real life responsibilities took over. So this music represents a pretty special time in my life, and it evokes an emotional response nearly every time I hear it.

    I have almost no way to reconnect to my guild mates I spent days upon days with. Outside of leaving a comment on one of our raid videos, which has not seen a response for over a year. I still remember everything about these people and miss them

    my first exp in WoW was a warlock human doing nothing but quests, ignoring guild propositions wearing the pretty looking clothes, badly gear'd reading all quests finding meanings listening to music, no professions no gold no flying mounts i was so natural busy questing, finding friends along the way, excited to see them logged, always dying and watching cows undeads and others destroy goldshire, aaaahhhhh good times sir

    Am I the only person who enjoys the beginning of the soundtrack more than the part at 3:00? The first song sounds like a majestic, exotic, rainy, beautiful forest, while the second part sounds like a remix of the Alliance hub music. It's great too, but I think the first song is better.

      I like both equally. Terrokar's soundtrack as a whole is the peak of WoW's ambient music.

    Because not everyone has the time to play the game full time. It gives players with commitments and jobs a chance to experience the content. Normal modes and hardmodes are still available for the more hardcore and increased item level and mounts ensures they're rewarded for it.

    So strange how there are some areas within a zone that in no way resemble the rest of the area. The music for the forest in Terokkar is astonishingly different than the music in the Bone Wastes, therefore they both look different and have a different feel. Well done Blizz.

    I doubt anyone here saw/remembers the 80s film The Dark Crystal. Since zone always reminded me of it from the first time i set foot in it. The Arakkoa are an obvious homage to the Skeksis, but also the music. Something very 'Dark Crystal-esque' about it. it's grim, dark even, but magical also.

    The part from 3:15 to 5:20 is one of the most beautiful excerpts of music ever crafted by humanity. It makes me feel like I would with Beethoven, or Franz Liszt, or Wagner... mankind may be imperfect in many aspects, but when true geniuses delve into the world of music, perfection comes out. Brilliant song, congratulations Blizzard and its musicians.

    The things I always remember about BC was first everyone level, then it was amazement of how nice Zangar look, and then it was the music of Terrokar, and then it was the nice looking zone called Nagrand.
    3:30+ has been stamped in my mind, but for some reason I always think of Nagrand when I hear it.
    I sure do miss those days.
